I get that, but one of the most beloved GD songs, Jesus of suburbia, is for a good part a collage of “reinterpreted” melodies, in a much more explicit way that in this case. And that’s just one of many examples in this band catalogue. I don’t see how this song can change things for the worse, when it just uses a riff that is part of the rock n roll history, and that can be compared to the use of power chords.

I know about Summer Of 69, what are the others?

Yes, and I'm old enough to remember all the people that ragged on Green Day with "They stole Jesus of Suburbia from Summer of '69", which like, one small section kind of sounds like it? And yet it got so spread around that my high school girlfriend's mom found out I loved Green Day and was like, "Didn't they steal a song from Bryan Adams?" And it's like, fuck. Seriously? It overtook people's opinions and the artistry of the song was largely ignored outside of the Green Day fanbase.

The problem with Stab you in the Heart is that it's not "hey, this riff kind of sounds like..." It's the whole chorus seems note for note.

And warning is 1 to 1 Picture book, much more than this. Still it’s a great song and people love it. There are haters that are gonna hate, but I have been dealing with those since 2004, I will be glad to continue the fight for this record :P

Ring of Fire, Joan Jett’s French song (Edit: that’s homecoming, sorry)

True enough. Fucking saaaaame. I was walking around my high school in Green Day shirts right around the time "Green Day fucking sucks" became 'cool'. I will forever be extremely defensive of my boys.

The same happened with Boulevard and it became their most popular song anyway.

I like Meet Me on The Roof.

For anyone having deja vu

And (I know you know this but since people already started worrying about this in the other thread): this is a song wrote by Billie for a musical, he’s not stealing anything from anyone.

Another great example, even tho I never fully got the wonderwall thing. Noel Gallagher can TTMAC me.

Yes, this. It's true that many rock'n'roll or blues-songs sound very similar and that GD (and most other musicians) have always borrowed ideas from other artists to turn it into something unique, but the thing with this song is that the chorus sounds exactly the same. I even want to sing "hippy hippy shake" in the chorus instead of "I wanna stab you in the heart"😂 So I don't think its's comparable to the JOS situation.

It's more like Foxboro Hot Tubs with Alligator being like You Really Got Me etc.

What's TTMAC stand for?

Terrazzo, Tile, and Marble Association of Canada?

I never said he stole anything I said he ripped this album off from these paper bullets. And I think I am allowed to post my opinion. If you dont like it dont read it

TTMAC has actually grown on me tbh, at least it has some attitude behind it.

Tomorrow you are gonna love the whole record, you heard it here first :P

You missed the first two lines of my post: I know you know this but since people already started worrying about this in the other thread

He didn’t rip it off from paper bullets, he wrote paper bullets and released one of those songs through this record, as he did with the Longshot ep. That’s not ripping off, it’s publishing an unreleased song.

Chill :)

I can’t see there being a problem with the Beatles tbh, they’ve got far too much money to care about a chord progression on a Green Day album.

Despite my dislike it for it. I REALLY want it to grow on me. Maybe it’ll be another Warning situation where it took about 6-7 years to finally come round to it. But Warning and this will still definitely be bottom of the pile.

We feel very different, haha.

For me, Warning is tied with Nimrod for 2nd place.

And I'm in love with this one!

It's not a Beatles song. They just covered it. The much poorer families of the original song's writer (Chan Romero) might want a piece.

I just really don't like the vocal "scratch" edit they do in the chorus. I know it's been pointed out before, I know people have defended it, but it's just not necessary. Some of Butch's "extra bits and bobs" don't bother as much anymore, but I don't exactly love them. At least the audio levels are more consistent than on RevRad.

Still, GD haven't had stellar production since AI imo :P

Nevertheless, even after repeated listens, I have to say this isn't a bad album.

I’d be amazed if it happened tbh, simply because I don’t think they’ll ever be made aware of it

Well, I listened to "Stab" and "F(woo) TIme".   I knew they sounded alike, but it sounds as if the guitar parts are EXACTLY the same.     The drums are slightly different, and I couldn't really hear the bass enough to tell.

Makes sense though. I've always thought F Time's killer instrumentals were wasted on those pitiful lyrics.

Wouldn't you know I'm working 13 hours today.

I usually ask off for Green Day Day, but forgot to this time.

I'll either rush around on my lunch break trying to find a copy, or make a late night run to Target.   They absolutely don't give a F(woo) about putting new releases out Friday morning (or at midnight like they should),  but I figure by 9:30 or 10:00pm tonight, the album would probably be there.

* All the Target locations say they have it.   So fingers crossed.
