I just saw that video. He didn't hold back.  To me there are redeeming qualities to this album, but I suppose that is to be expected on such a subjective product. Reviews have been all over the map for this one.

I'm gonna end up crashing my car from clapping along to this album.

Also some of these songs absolutely floored me on the first listen. I was almost moved to tears the first time I heard Meet Me On The Roof, Teenage Teenager and Graffitia. I can't describe it, but those three songs just brought so much joy to me when I heard them.

They sound so damn good on this record and I'm glad my skepticism of this record was washed away.

I enjoy watching bad reviews of things I like, so I became a fan of Fantano and actually met him on his tour.   

Wow, he really tears this album apart.  He points out a lot of true facts about the album, but they are things I feel like make it great. 

 I hadn't seen that Green Day sign he talked about, which is another drug reference thing.  Definitely not very cool, but I'm not sure if that's the band or whoever's in charge of marketing.   Maybe the band want  the whole Sex, Drugs and Rock N Roll going on this time around, and I get it if it's sort of a social commentary thing.    But there really isn't any sex on FOAM.   Mostly stabbing, getting wasted and jumping out of windows.      It's not Sex/Drugs/Violence.  It's Drugs/Violence/Rock N Roll. 

Come on Billie.   Two out of Three ain't bad.   Take the sex and music!   

He said strong 0 to a light 1, so it's not a complete 0.     I don't know what Green Day could have done differently to be "really edgy" versus trying to be.

Finally, the only review that matters has arrived. I know Fantano hated this, from the day he made the track review for Father Of All... I mean just look at his face while he was listening to it lmao

Update: Watched it. Actually I agree with him, mostly. Graffitia is no way the worst song here, is the closest one to be any good, along with Sugar Youth, which he didn't mention at all. Maybe a 0 is a little too harsh, but is totally understandable.

After watching a whole mess of scathing reviews for the album, I hope Green Day hold their ground no matter how the public feels when the dust clears.   

I want them to make what they want.    EVEN IF I DON'T LIKE IT.   

I don't want to see them apologize for any era.     But I feel like that might be coming as Album 14 comes to fruition.     Like, "we know everybody hated FOAM.....here's American Idiot ZWEI!

Wait what? Has this guy never listened to any rock music that came out before American Idiot before? The closest thing to a pop song on this album is "Oh Yeah", and it's just as much pop as "Still Breathing" was.

I've arleady lost the first impression effect. After having thousands of listen to fomaf single, it sounds fully like Green Day, whole album sounds like GD. Initially it was like 'wow what an experimental album'. I don't have this feeling any longer XD Maybe songs like OY, JOAH and FRA with high-pitched vocal have a new approach but the rest is just Green Day.

Those peaople who grumble about foamf that it's pop etc. apparently have missed trillogy and revrad era. They don't know songs like Kill The Dj, Nightlife or Still Breathing. Otherwise some of them would refer somehow to previous records if they knew it. If someone stopped on AI there is a reason to hate new GD, but saying shit like 'worst GD album ever' without actually knowing last four it's kind of stupid.

Also, yesterday my fiancee asked me to take photos of the snow because they never see it in California and I wandered too far into this creepy wood and accidentally walked into a swamp. I got stuck. You might think I'm in the wrong thread, but as I desperately clung to a tree branch and almost lost my Doc Martens trying to get myself out of this fucking swamp, wondering if I was going to fall face down and realising I'd forgotten my phone, all I could hear in my head was Billie going "I DON'T WANNA BE A ROMEO!" and "DRINKING WHISKEY BY THE RIVER DOING YEYO!" at full volume.

Traumatic. I'll never hear it the same way again.

That's how the internet works though. Polarizing things get klicks, which means attention, which ultimately means money. People like Fantano make a living by reviewing music on YouTube, and that's what people want to see, unfortunately.

Look, I'm not saying that it's wrong to dislike this album but the way some people are talking about it isn't rational anymore. There world isn't just black or white, but nowadays, you either adore something or you find it absolutely detestable. There's no in between. 

I'm also quite a big movie nerd and it's the same there. People want to see things getting slammed. Year-end-worst-lists get more views than anything else. But I can't stress this enough, the overall reception of this album isn't mainly negative. But the negative reviews stand out because most of them are sensational. 

I totally understand why some people might not like FOAM. But there's a difference between criticizing something with the help of valid arguments and just saying that iT sUcKs bEcAuSe iT iSn'T pUnK!!!! 

Personally, I have certain critics and reviewers that I trust. Not because they praise everything that I like but because I know that they always try to put things into perspective and work with arguments rather than emotions. Everything else isn't really relevant for me. 

You can like whatever you want. You can even be a die hard Nickelback fan and even that would be fine. I once took a Green Day poster from a festival with me. A guy saw me and called me pathetic. So what? I don't think that I was the one who was making a fool of himself in that situation. 

What I'm trying to say is: It doesn't really matter. This record won't sound differently just because Anthony Fantano hates it. And it's ok for critics to dislike it, but if they are unable to see things from a rational angle, it's pointless to try and change their minds. 

And to put things into perspective. FOAM has a rating of 69 on Metacritic. 21CB has 70...

Fantano laughed at the billboard saying about 100% pure rock and swedish musicians and I kinda agreed on this matter. I'm also pissed off. The billboard was a bad idea cause foamf ist not pure uncut rock

My favorite part is when all the people who don’t like FOAM look to Fantano’s review and are all like “See!! He hates it so it MUST be an awful album! I told you guys Green Day sucks now!” 

Also give me this guy any day over Fantano. I get his humor can be cringe but it’s clear how passionate he is about music and his reviews are actually well-thought out and intelligent

Fantano's criticism of the billboard was dumb, almost definitely a marketing team decision and unlikely anything to do with the band. 

I feel he made a lot of valid points about the album though, okay it's not a 0-1/10 release and we can put that down as hyperbole for the sake of a video - but there's some serious fundamental issues with songs being over produced and the lyrics being really dumb/lazy throughout. 

Fantano raised the point that the album lacks a true direction, I'd agree, listen to it in one sitting, it's a messy run through of tracks attempting to put a GD spin on the changes in rock music throughout different eras. Kudos for trying - it's not worked for me, but it's clearly being enjoyed by others. 

People are getting a tad upset on here over one poor review though, honestly, I think GD have done well to get so many positive reviews from the mainstream. I genuinely thought when I heard the leak it would get a mass panning. 

Most importantly at this stage in the bands career, reviews really are neither here nor there, it's not going to stop them suddenly producing music in the future.

If you're enjoying FOAM carry on doing so, don't let yourself get caught up in some disapproving comments from a YouTube reviewer or other individuals.

The album objectively is not as bad as Fantano says it is. He might hate it but I honestly don't think Green Day could do anything to impress him. He's said that he hasn't liked a GD album since Nimrod. That alone makes his opinion on GD pretty much invalid imo. If it were as bad as he was saying, you'd at least see some other reviews from well known reviewers or critics that were really low but if you look on metacritic, YouTube etc., nobody is giving the album any lower than a 4/10 other than butthurt fans and fantano

I mean his entire review is based on the premise that "people wanted a fast punk rock and roll album" and they didn't make one. He talks as if the brief history of the last few years of GD's music that he gives means that was promised somehow and means he has "the right to be pissed". But it wasn't promised lol. Should just say it isn't the type of music he likes from them.

If he hasn't liked Green Day since Nimrod, why did he bother to review it? It sounds like he no longer has an interest in the band. Then don't review the album. I wouldn't bother writing about artists I have zero interest in aside from saying I tried it but it wasn't for me 🤷‍♀️

He thinks he's at the river but he's actually in a scary swamp or bog.

Or he's at an actual nice river but he's so bent it looks like this to him.

Either way, he is in a bad situation.
