Popular Post The Grohl
After spending the whole weekend with the album, I absolutely love it. I don't hate a single song. I do like some more than others, but I wouldn't skip any of them. My favorites so far are Sugar Youth, Meet me on the Roof, and Take the Money and Crawl. 5

Popular Post 21st_century_gloria
Album's pretty good! Sure it's not GD's magnum opus by definition, but it's definitely better than I was expecting. FOAM-- Honestly not as bad as I initially thought. Loving the bass. Lyrically not a huge issue, and it's grown on me as an epic live performance, so it gets my "awkward hand wave of approval" but I'm honestly not vibing with the vocals haha FRA-- I will keep defending this one until the moon turns into green cheese! Sure maybe it's not the strongest lyrically and could use an increase in tempo and more loud guitar imo but it's a total bop. It's a good car commercial or sports hype song and I can totally see why the NHL wants it. Oh Yeah-- One of the 4 FOAM tracks that stand out to me among GD's entire discography from 39/smooth to FOAM and everything in between. I really like the lyrics and feel like the laid-back vibe is perfect for the song's underlying dark commentary. The part that I can't bring myself to like however is the "oh yeah" that gets repeated over and over. The chorus seems more like a prechorus and I was expecting a significant breakdown, but oh well. I still like the song. Meet Me on the Roof-- Oh, God, this is the one I can't vibe with. Why is this the one that everyone likes? hahaha It sounds like the 1960s on helium balloons imo. I think the dark undertones and the light, happy tune are a nice and thought-provoking contrast, but imo it drags. It does pick up in the second half but not enough for me to look past my initial qualms with it. Video is nice and retro though! Teenage Teenager-- Not bad, much slower than I expected from my anticipation of the promotion's claim that everything on this record was going to be fast and hard hitting. I noticed several lines are sung in the same tune as Lazy Bones. It's not my favorite and it's very far from the strongest, especially lyrically, but I don't hate it. It gets my "awkward hand wave of approval." Stab You in the Heart-- I honestly don't mind the "borrowed riff" and it's a banger nonetheless. The lyrics make me laugh and overanalyze at the same time lmao. It still sounds like Take a Hint from the show Victorious. Or it could be mocking Achy Breaky Heart, the idea of which is hysterical. Sugar Youth-- Oh, this is the most memorable one for me. 💖 I've already said that I interpret it as a dark and chaotic gritty kind of Still Breathing. Though it doesn't break even 2 minutes, I don't necessarily have a problem with that because it hits so hard and breathlessly. I better keep this out of the car or I'm going to end up with a mound of speeding tickets. Completely in love with the way BJA sings the lines "Gonna dance/ to something wiiiiiiild" and "I don't wanna be a Romeo" Junkies On a High-- Okay, this one disappointed me. It just flat out drags. It did have lots of potential imho but I wasn't feeling this one. I did get FBHT vibes. Rip, this one unfortunately does not get my "awkward hand wave of approval." Take the Money and Crawl-- Ah, quality content. Snarky and bouncy, and I felt Queens of the Stone Age vibes. This was another memorable tune. It probably could've fit on Uno or Dos nicely. Lmao the layering and effects make it sound like a more aggressive Dance Dance Revolutions track. From a historical perspective it could fit as the theme song of the robber barons of the Gilded Age. Also reminded me of RevRad with the volume lol. Graffita-- This is my favorite track on FOAM. It reminded me of The Clampdown by the Clash. It felt anthemic, but not in the way of RevRad or American Idiot. It's heartbreaking in a way and mournful and could've fit on Warning imo. I'm wondering if the topical aspects of the factories and of police brutality were an intended connection in any kind, or if they are completely seperate in BJA's mind and only tied together for the purpose of the song. "All souls go to Heaven in Graffitia..." All in all, solid. Not as bad as this thread may have lead one to believe before the release, hahaha. Doesn't touch my top 5 GD album ranking imho but it's good! It could use more drums. A big thanks to Green Day for being the best band ever in my book, and for all the music that they've put out and will put out. 🤩 Edited February 9, 2020 by 21st_century_gloria LAST RIDE IN IS BETTER THAN MEET ME ON THE ROOF! 4
Popular Post CherryBombs&Gasoline
Alright, I think it's time for me to write down my thoughts on the album. My opinion might change as time goes by, but I think at this point I can at least say if I'm more on the positive or negative side. Father of All: I kind of did a 180 on this song. When it came out, I wasn't a fan at all. I struggled to dig the verses because of the falsetto but as time went by, the song grew on my. It took a long time, but I think it's a good opener and a decent lead single. It's not the best track on the album but it's one of the more aggressive tunes and I simply have a soft spot for those. 7/10 Fire, Ready, Aim: It's a nice little tune, but not more than that. I don't skip it, but compared to the rest of the album, it's meh. It does have this commercial vibe and I'm still not sure if it bothers me or not. I like Billie Joe's voice during the verses though. It's very raw and I like that. 6/10 Oh Yeah: For me, this is the biggest departure from the typical Green Day sound and a song that somehow has a different vibe than the rest of the record. I don't care about the Garry Glitter controversy since he doesn't profit from it and because I think that artist and art should always be separated. I wish the song had a bridge with a guitar solo or something, it always feels as if it should kick off at some point, but it never does. I still like it though, even if the live performances that we saw so far were rather weak. But the lyrics are strong and it's just so chill. 7/10 Meet Me On The Roof: Remember when Billie Joe said that he doesn't want to write the feel good-song of the year anymore? This one sounds too sweet to me, I don't know. I can't quite say why, but it's just too much for me, I guess. I'm not talking about the lyrics, just about the music. It might be a smart choice for a single and the music video is cute, but the song itself doesn't stand out. 6/10 I Was A Teenage Teenager: There's a HUGE discrepancy between music and lyrics here. The song sounds a lot like Weezer and I'm aware that some critics have pointed that out as a weakness. I like it though, it's a nice nod to them since they're also going on a tour together. The song is anthemic and it will surely work great in a live setting. But the lyrics, ugh. It's just TOO obvious. School is just for suckers? Come on, they can do so much better than that. It's ok to sing from the perspective of someone who is younger or even from the perspective of your younger self, but don't rely on those old tropes, that makes it kind of embarrassing. The music is lit though. 7/10 Stab You In The Heart: Love it! Yes, it does sound like Hippy Hippy Shake and there migh or might not be a lawsuit soon. But this is pure rock and roll and it works. And it's a great way to start the second half of the album, which is much stronger in my opinion. 8/10 Sugar Youth: Almost my favorite track on FOAM. I'd say this is the most typical Green Day song, fast, aggressive and pure fun. I also like the nod to She's a Rebel, which is an underrated song in my opinion. I just wish it was a bit longer, But this is punk rock, and they are a punk band after all. I have no idea how you can be a Green Day fan and not like this song. 8/10 Junkies On A High: For me, this is the weakest track on the album by far. I know that a lot of people on this forum like the lyrics and they are definitely the best part of the song. But other than that, I just find it really boring. RevRad had Outlaws and Trouled Times, FOAM has this. It's not bad, it just doesn't excite me. 4/10 Take The Money And Crawl: The effect when he sings Crawl is the shit! It's a good song, I just wish it was a little longer. That's a problem of the whole record though. It's a bit too short, and this song feels like it would be better if it was longer. A longer instrumental part, maybe? That would have been great. It still kicks ass though and since the whole record is a little less heavy, the more aggressive songs have an even bigger effect. 8/10 Graffitia: EASILY the best song on the album. If I had to make a list of the best Green Day songs of the last 10 years, this one would probably be on it. It sounds a lot like The Clash but is still undeniably Green Day. I wish this was the lead single because if that had been the case, my excitement for this whole era would have been so much bigger. This HAS to be played live and I think it might become a fan favorite. It's also a great way to end the album. I just love it. 9/10 If I combine all of my ratings, this record is a 7/10 for me. That's pretty accurate, actually. I still think that RevRad is better and FOAM is far away from being their best album. But it's still good and much better than I initially expected. And it's better than the trilogy because it feels more cohesive. It's not AI or Nimrod, but it's a decent rock album and that's perfectly fine. 4

Popular Post Platypus2000
The only truly terrible song is Teenage Teenager. Billie sounds so off key man it sounds horrible and way too much like Amy off Dos which is a horrible song to start with anyways haha 😂😂 They’ve done it again. They’ve sucked me right back into this weird music they make, it’s incredible really how they do it. Don’t get it twisted, it’s still by far the worst album they’ve released along with Warning but at least I’m at a point where I can moderately enjoy it now. Graffitia giving me summer vibes all day every day.
bjrules
Look, I love this band and I always will. I'm still going to Hella Mega and I'm very excited. But: I think that this is one of the laziest, most uninspired albums I have heard from any band ever. The lyrics are quite genuinely embarrassing for a man nearing 50. I mean "i was a teenage teenager, full of piss and vinegar" what??? 39/smooth genuinely has more mature lyrics than anything on this album. I'm not asking for another Dookie, but troll album or not I think we as fans at least deserve some semblance of effort from the band. 1 1

That Dude
1. Father of All – No matter how you feel about this song now, you can go ahead and admit it. The first time you heard this, you couldn’t believe your ears. WHAT THE HECK ARE THEY DOING? It really threw me for a loop, but doesn’t every song the first time your hear it? I adore this song, it’s killer bass line. The only minor compliaint I have, which effects the whole album, is the weird title. What would have been a better song title for this one? 2. Fire, Ready, Aim - Just now getting a “Nice Guys Finish Last” vibe from this one, not sure why. This one is tied for my least favorite along with F(woo) Time Part II. This is one where there are clearly other instruments in the mix. WHY THE *()* ARE THERE NO CREDITS, GGAAAAAAAGjjjjhh!!! 3. OH YEAH – My favorite single from the album. I Wonder whose idea it was to sample Joan Jett, or how it came to them. Of course, with ABSOLUTE NO WRITING CREDITS IN THE MOTHER7897ing booklet, I wonder who wrote any of this album. Many of these songs have a particular part that really hits me hard, and the “bulletproof backpack” line gets me in the feels everytime. 4. Meet me on the Roof – the first of the new, the glam, whatever! This song is fun! My special moment in this one is the “don’t wake me up!” part. This is Wake me Up When September Ends Part II, and he’s doing so much better! 5. I Was a Teenage Teenager Teenaging - So many of these songs feel like Trilogy Redemption Runs, and this is one. I don’t know why everybody hates this one. We were ALL teenage teenagers teenaging at one point. 6. Stab you in the Heart- This is a fun song. It’s my least favorite , but still a lot of fun. 7. Sugar Youth - We ALL love this one. That prom queen gets me every time. Nobody wants to fuck a prom queen, right? I certainly don’t . My taste as always been left of center. Only the weird for me. This would be a killer show closer. Special moments include the line about drinking and drugging by the river. I imagine Billie having a cocaine and whiskey picnic and it’s funny. If you’re going on a bender, I guess a lovely picnic is a pretty positive environment to do it in. 8. Junkies – Like Teenagers and Oh Yeah, this is one I have to stand up for. One of my top picks from the album, but everyone else thinks it’s boring. The line about watching the world burn really makes me tingle. It’s at this point in the album where I’m like “Wait, the albums almost over? What happened? Oh yeah OH YEAH OH YEAH OH YEAH 9. Crawl - you all liked this one before I did. I couldn’t understand a single word of it until I studied the lyrics for a long while. But this is a banger for sure. Kind of sounds like some of the rumored song titles come to life. How the West Was Won, anyone? I love the vocal filters you all hate – they remind me of Horse Shoes and Handgrenades, which is awesome. You guys probably hate that song too, right? 10. Graffitia - beautiful. I love it. But I feel like we need some back story. What is Graffitia? What events is Billie singing about? The only thing that’s clear is the answer to Billie’s question. Yes, Billie. We are. We are the waiting. We are lost forgotten. We are the long lost love. Love is for losers. I love this album. 1

That Dude
I just watched the Oh Yeah performance from the album release party. This song really sounds different live, and I like it both ways. The guitars aren't really the focus on the studio version, but they sound wicked when they play it live. Billie was more energetic during this one than the Ellen one, but both performances are bangin'. YEAH OH YEAH OH YEAH OH YEAH
