FOAM - MOJO review

New 3/5 star review from Mojo magazine (UK).

Actually fairly positive despite the rating and some discussion about songs that haven’t been mentioned much previously.

On a side note, sad that they’re not too enthusiastic about the new La Roux album either- she’s awesome.

Great, looking forward for the scan/picture :)

As a reference, they gave 3/5 also to 21CB and RR, 4/5 to Uno, 4.5/5 to AI...and 1/5 to Warning 😭 (source Metacritic, there's no record of previous reviews).

Scan should be in original post now?...

Thanks for the scan, really interesting to read some original insights on unheard songs, but I will not spend too much time on a reviewer that cannot even spell Billie's name properly. FFS.

2-3 minute bubblegum pop punk seriously sounds like the best Green Day to me, and references to the Ramones and the Clash make it sound even better.

Billy... 😡

I don't want to be a romeo. Sound nice.

Graffitia will be the best song is the vibe I’m getting.

If it actually sounds anything like Bankrobber from the Clash, I can already put my heart on that one.

This makes me think they don't have a very good taste in green day albums though :P

Yeah, giving 4/5 to Uno when you had a 1/5 review for Warning is out of the boundaries of my understanding.

"struggle to sound like they mean it" is certainly something I can hear in the singles so far.

The real tragedy is that they think that Uno is better than 21CB.

Sounds good though. Really want to hear Graffitia now. Based on the first singles, I think I know what they mean by "struggle to sound like they really mean it". I genuinely enjoy Oh Yeah, but FOA does sound a bit forced and FRA isn't nearly as aggressive and in your face as they probably intended. Anyway, I have hope for the album since the songs work much better if you listen to them back to back. The review is actually promising.

I think this sounds very hopeful, and I’m beginning to think this album is not going to be ripped by critics. Except for Anthony Fantano of course, who has some sort of grudge against Green Day that he can’t let go of.

Yeah, it's interesting how people always point out Green Day when talking about artists that sold out and lost their mojo, yet no Green Day record ever received overall bad reviews by critics. Their worst studio album on Metacritic is Tre, and even that has got a score of 64.

Fantano doesn't really like anything though. He's not really the best indicator 😂

This is why I don't watch him anymore. I get it it's his opinions but it just feels like he thinks most everything sucks now lol.

Fortunately at best he can aim to appear in the user rating section of websites like Metacritic :P

OY kind of restored my faith in this album and seeing that the reviews aren't horrible so far helps too. I'm excited now. And I'm curious why Billie doesn't want to be a Romeo anymore because he sweated bullets like a modern Romeo in Bang Bang😄

He only likes extremely esoteric, push-the-boundaries kind of music.

He reminds me of sites like Pitchfork and Spin who will post Album of the Year articles and it's someone you've never heard of

Also, if that's what he likes, why bother with Green Day? I will never understand reviewers who review things they have zero interest in. I still remember a local review in the paper for Animal Crossing: New Leaf. The writer said, I don't really like Animal Crossing and played very little of it...so the new game sucks. 🙄

Graffitia sounds very cool.

This was my take on this review. The criticisms of the album itself don't hold substance the person sounds like a critic on auto pilot imo. I was a teenage teenager as a title gave me Ramones vibes. Glad to see someone that actually heard it relayed that.

Based on this review that contains so few details it sounds like there's a few more experiments in store. Realistically there's probably 2 classic GD songs in there. Graffitia sounds like it's an experiment that worked out.

Anthony Fantano talks a lot of shit about GD but then after scores them a 6 or 7 which is high for him. However, I've seen him occasionally hand out an 8 or 9 but what's odd is that what he scores an 8 or 9 for a new album is actual shit.

He will give good ratings to classic albums and conveniently he hasn't done Dookie, AI or 21cb. He listens to a lot of music so he knows something. He's not really a musician so he's limited in his actual interpretation and understanding of what is being played. He wouldn't be able to critique actual technical elements of the production or progressions in the song. He does listen to a lot of music though so he can put together somewhat of a decent enough argument to why he may not enjoy it or think it's effective.

After all he's nothing really more than an online video guy, his goal is to make you disagree with him so you attack him. He's trying to sell that as a drama as part of his gimmick. He's also following certain trends to match up with popular opinion for views. I don't know who's worse Anthony Fantano or that GD fan boy with the nasally voice who pretends to hate all the new GD songs for views meanwhile you know he's totally rocking out to them when the camera is off.

Whoa, Graffitia is described as a mix between "Mony Mony" and "Bankrobber"? That's a pretty odd pairing, I'm not even sure how that would work. I guess we'll see on February 7th...

Maybe it's obnoxiously poppy like Mony Mony but stylistically somehow relies on rhythms that fall closer to Bankrobber?

Maybe the critic like's to do meth before writing his reviews?

Better think again cause no one knows
