Why does this song make me feel kinda hopeless about the state of the world ? It’s giving me incredible anxiety for a song.

Probably because this state of the world gives Billie Joe anxiety.

How many Green Day songs have the term "oh yeah" in them?

I was looking up guitar chords for the tune and found them, but also Too Dumb to Die.   So now I'm playing that song as well.

I think the point is that everyone is watching someone or something and with cctv everywhere, everyone is being watched, yet the guy whose job it is to watch the screens, is watching a different screen altogether while others are watching him.

In China you aren't only being watched but the cameras are loaded with technology that can hack your phones. That's why Chinese manufactured phones have security holes. They're built that way to comply with the camera reading technology.

I always had fun playing and singing Too Dumb To Die.

Coming across different lyrics.

During the chorus, is that weird voice saying "do you want it" or "ain't it funny"???

Another article here about the Joan Jett/Gary Glitter part of the new single:

https://www.ajournalofmusicalthings.com/uh-oh-theres-a-big-problem-with-the-new-green-day-single/

This article makes it seem like GD didn’t know this history of the song before releasing it and that their donation of royalties is a last minute “putting the fire out” scenario and forced. Something I do not get from their video description.

Joan Jett is a personal friend of the band. I find it hard to believe they didn't know about the asshole before.

Oh, I know. Just commenting that the article should maybe take their own advice about checking facts and sources...

Yeah I could see your stance on it is the same as mine. People shouldn't assume shit. If they knew anything about GD they would know Joan Jett opened for them years back.

I actually love the fact that Joan Jett is a part of the song. She's a fuckin rocker.

I loved that she got inducted to the R&RHF the same year as GD.

Well, here’s some perspective! My 7 year old immediately enjoyed the song and had no idea who the band might be even though  I’ve been (like any good parent) raising him on GD since birth.

I like how my kid’s operating with a fresh canvas here. I have old Green Day basically intertwined in my DNA at this point so, that’s where I am. And he does too, but he’s a kid and can listen to this stuff without the 26 yrs of programming bias I experience. Because I’m still kind of hating it

However, my son loves it.

Well, there you go. There’s a lot I can and want to say, but I’ll just play him some Network and we’ll go from there. Yep, I take this too seriously sometimes, but it sure is fun to enjoy new music from your favorite band with your kids- even if there are some surprises along the way.

My 19 year old pop and alt music loving daughter is not a Green Day fan but likes this song.  I think it will have broader appeal outside of the fan circle.

It's pretty incredible that the chorus is literally a sample of a different song, but the prechorus is the part that sounds like it's from a different song.

At least the verses are catchy 🤷‍♀️

Mark my words...this song will go to #1 on most all of the rock charts and will be  a crossover top 30-10 hit...their album will debut at the #1 spot no doubt about it.

You’re being uncharacteristically positive for this forum. You’re a brave soul.

But what is a 30-10 hit?

When Joker used a Glitter song reports came back that Gary Glitter doesn’t get any royalties to any of his songs

Found this video on Youtube and I thought it would make me like the song more:

Interestingly enough it did the opposite and highlights exactly why I think its musically such an underwhelming song.

No offense to the person who made the video, he did a great job working with whats there but this song leaves A LOT to be desired.

Note: If you are wondering exactly what I am talking about its the fact that the entire chorus (What's meant to be the highlight of the song) is literally just one note.

perfect description, I thought the same....the chorus kinda sounds...magical without the extra guitar

Interesting.  My son’s first concert was GD in 2009 - yes, I am a wonderful parent 😂😂 - and while he’s ok with Revrad etc, he really likes Oh Yeah too, he’s 25 now.
