On the first listen, it's pretty boring and I don't like the production. I'm super excited to see how they'll play it live, though. I'm sure I'll like that.

Imagine being billie and reading this, it would be instant depression for me. People questioning his creativity etc, if he likes it why cant he write and release it? Just to appease to peoples expectations?

he has enough money to get a good therapy if he gets depressed bc fans calling his shitty art shitty art🤣

then he can start with: "my name is billie and i wrote a shitload of bad songs, i did before but not that bad at all"

They've been doing this for 30 years I'm sure by now they've grown thick skin and decided not to care wtf we say

The strange thing about this song is that it's as far away from GD's signature sound as I could imagine, but it's still totally giving me my Green Day moments, and I've never felt them when we got the first 2 singles. They just didn't get to me on an emotional level at all. But this one does. It sounds like a relaxed, laid-back song at first, but it has a (lyrical) deepness and sincerity the other two songs were lacking (at least for me).

I just love the message of the song and I think it's a perfect observation of our superficial society. Someone a few pages back said that this could be the Still Breathing of the record and I agree, it reminds me a lot of it and I love SB. I really can't wait to hear this live now because I think with heavier guitars and without the vocal effects (which still bother me) I will like it even more.

I made a promise to listen to FOAM somewhere in April-May, but for the single, I gave an exception to have my ears a glance while being high.

And I'm glad i did - as my life somehow is getting divided into seperate acts, the current one being named "Gold on the CEILING" (like The Black Keys song), I hope the next one will have a meaning with a name "Meet Me on the ROOF".

"Oh Yeah!" taught me to lower or even to erase the expectations and just enjoy the groove.

Now I'm really out.

I get the comparison with SB, I had a difficult relationship with that song while it was growing on me cause sometimes I find it overemotional and I am not totally in love with the melody, but still I see what you mean here. Also, I think they both use a contemporary approach towards rock songs/ballads as none other GD song did. Which is cool to me.
Interestingly, this is probably one of the reason the vocal filters don’t really bother me here, I think they have much more reason to exist in a song like this rather then in a classic punk rock song from the band.

Wow... well this is negative 😂😂 I like this song a lot actually. Sure it’s not the usual style but I like it a lot!! P.S. he sampled Joan Jett “Do You Wanna Touch” for drums and chorus’ (Oh Yeah part)

Billie just posted this in his Insta story:

I think looks like he is not completly satisfied with the final result. They could rework on the song cause Bulletproof Backpack doesn't fit completly all the other lyrics in the song but he also points out the jingoism in the lyrics, it gives some political vibe to the song but not sure in what sense he wanted to use it

Still not doing anything for me, I don’t really hear the deep lyrics or musicality in the song. Don’t really get the comparison to still breathing?

I’m digging the lyrics a little more at every listen. I really love the contrast between verses and chorus.
To me this really sounds like the verses are a description of the shit happening all over society (which can be taken literally as the portrayal of a shooter, or more as a metaphor for the shitty times we are living), where the chorus shows society looking in the opposite direction, into the screens making everyone a star.
To me the genius come with the second half of the chorus tho: everybody wants to feel like a star, but then you get your reward and still feel unsatisfied. Cause everybody has a scar that the screen doesn’t show, and you can’t avoid but feeling hopeless, which brings you back to reality, and the verses.

Love it.

You’re reading way too much into it. It’s lazy at best.

Lol, nope. You are lazy if you stop only because the music doesn’t fit your usual genre expectations.

You know the wonderful thing about music is that it speaks to us in very different ways because we're all individuals with very different histories and no song will ever have the same meaning for each and every one of us. It doesn't even matter what Billie tried to tell us with it because I'm sure the message I read into it is very different than Billie's own message. I couldn't connect to FOAM or FRA at all but I can connect to this one a lot on a level I can't even explain, it's like my head is saying NO but my heart is saying OH YEAH 🤣 So I understand why people don't like the song, but I think you should also understand that other people can relate to it.
