That’s your opinion. Blanket statements like that are kind of juvenile.

This ain't your grandma's Green Day!

Had to revisit the song again.

Anybody listened to all three back to back yet?

I get here to over 100 new replies and half of them aren't even worth reading :P joking

It's interesting, I've been re-reading a bunch of interviews about the FOAM album and every time, they go off on how it's supposed to be this super hard hitting super fast record all the way through, but nothing so far has really been that (paging FOAM which is actually awesome as a live track) I guess one might assume that the big singles would be the "American Idiot" or the "Bang Bang" of the record from that perspective... when I first read those interviews I was thinking that everything was going to be on the tempo of Bang Bang. Now, I'm wondering of anything will even come slightly close to that, haha.

FRA is getting way more hate than I thought it would. I don't mind the song at all, it's a bop on 1.25x speed

I guess that's why I was a little put off by the fact that Oh Yeah seemed so slow, but I love this song. Imo, it has great lyrics that align with the classic "this is a green day jam and it's fun to listen to but the lyrics are deceptively dark" insinuation that I love. :D

Still, I was high key expecting a stronger chorus that never came. Oh well.

I also love how the music video highlights the guy who asked BJ if he was ok when the line says "angels" and highlights the dude on his phone who ran into him when the line says "demons" that's the best :P

that’s where the Longshot songs came from (Tre even said a lot of those are discarded Green Day songs).

Can someone remind me where Tre said that?

If it wasn't Green Day, I would have probably never listened or even heard of this song. And if I did, I would think it is just a below average and pretty random song. On top of that I do not believe it is very well produced -based on my very limited knowledge of the subject. That is just my personal opinion.

It makes me think that the album might contain mostly anonymous sounding songs. Again, this is just a personal opinion.

Oddly the song is getting worse by the listen after I was initially impressed by it. The "everybody is a star" part is excellent. I found the verses to be kind of boring and Billie's voice sounds very juvenile.

I'm kinda the opposite. The verses are the best part i think. Kinda of a different rhythm than most green day songs. I don't like the song really but thought that was the best part. Chrous just kinda repetitive

Don’t know what to say about this one, still processing. I’m giving the songwriting/ composition props and trying to give the mix the benefit of the doubt, but damn- if they were looking to challenge the fan base, mission accomplished.

Maybe this will landmark moment for me as a fan of music and pull me into a new genre, but for someone who has been jumping headfirst into their music for the last 20 years, and as hardcore of a fan as can be, this is the most I’ve been challenged by far.

And for those that say, fine old fan, well- this band has meant a lot for me for decades, so forgive my need to process. It sounds like I’m over analyzing (and yes I have a very fulfilling life not related to music or the band, so in the grand scheme my venting doesn’t matter all that much), but I grew up with this band and take it more seriously than I probably should. Even in the leanest of times I’ve been super proud and even defensive of Green Day . Which is a little silly, but that’s how passionate I am  about their music and who they are as artists.

Thanks for letting me vent. I have been saying this for some time, so I’ll say it again- I’m not going to bitch because they could’ve been done a long time ago. But lucky for us they’re still here.

But with this song, I’m still trying to figure it out.  🤔

This song is really not as much a departure as some of these posts would lead you to believe.

You don't have to be such an asshole you know. I've complemented the song for most of the chat. Don't be a pouting baby just because I'm not praising the song unconditionally.

I am just excited to see the boys live for the first time in March!! Oh Yeah isn't the catchiest song out there but it seems like a good song to play live!

@TimmyChunks do you like FOAM?

Good question. Yes, I don’t love the vocal filters and mix, but the prechorus, chorus, and musicianship (creative drumming and gnarly solo) are undeniably excellent and I loved those parts right away. The musicianship on that song win the day for me even though the overall mix and sound fall short.

And for what it’s worth, while FRA was unremarkable, I found it to be a decent/ enjoyable Foxboro Hot Tubs banger.

Does that make sense? Thanks!

I believe this is the definition of departure- I’m not trying to be a wiseass, but come on.

I was making a joke. It has nothing to do with praising or not praising. I just think the night and day opinions, like Matt said, is fascinating.

Then say that. Don't make patronizing, condescending comments about what other people think of music.

Your post certainly didn't come across that way.
