I listed one of my lies too. That's a simple punk rock song. You can read the lyrics to that song and then read the lyrics to almost every song they have released after 21stcb and see how inferior these are. It's not even a matter of opinion on something like this.

And at the end of the day even the person I responded too agreed to what I said.

So to you it’s not a matter of opinion to consider or not this song or these lyrics up to GD standards? All right, we can close the discussion then 😂

When it comes to music and lyrics everything is a matter of opinion. I prefer "one of my lies" too but everything is personal opinion. And opinions can change and evolve overtime.

Some can prefer I Wanna Hold your Hand by the Beatles compared to something like Eleanor Rugby still the later is better.

In your opinion. Someone else can have a different opinion.

Eh, Just because something sounds more complex doesn’t mean it’s better . By that logic  Trapped in the Closet by R Kelly is better than Blitzkrieg Bop.

I meant lyrically sorry if I didn't make myself clear.

I like Tom too and there is a chance he'll release a new ava album this year but people in the forum keep talking shots at blink for whatever reason without even listening to their albums.

Because you can't like Blink AND Green Day. That's crazy! Don't you remember the great BSB vs NSYNC war of the 90s?

This kind of comment always assume that songs like JoS and RhS are the best GD songs. Which might be your opinion but it’s not an absolute fact. Some of my favorite GD songs are from the pre AI era, have relatively simple song structures, are shorter than 3 minutes, do not have an epic vibe, or existential-emotional lyrics.
Your music taste is not the Bible.

Exactly what I was trying to say but you said it better

I think it's clear that the guys are enjoying music and being innovative.

The sound is different to what we're used to and that should be a good thing. Why should we want them to re-hash themselves a thousand times?
Green Day have remained relevant only because they re-invent themselves all the time. During the AI era people were complaining that it doesn't sound like Green Day because they were used to Dookie era stuff....see a pattern there?

When I heard FOAMF for the first time I couldn't understand the direction they're going for, but it's becoming clearer and clearer and it makes a lot of sense to me!
It's fresh, new, innovative but definitely still Green Day. We're free to either like or not, that's completely subjective.

The quality though, is undisputedly still there! Listen to the 3 songs we have so far in sequence you'll see what I'm talking about.I'm enjoying it.

Off topic note, but if you haven't watch the youtube documentary on Lou Pearlman, you should. "The BoyBand Con: The Lou Pearlman Story". Defintely puts a whole new insight to that era.

I like both Insomniac and 21CB and I wouldn't say one is worse than the other, they're very different albums one band did. What they have in common is that they're works of art that convey some meaning. It's completely different when this time around there's a song released for an ad, a Foxboro Hot Tubs single and a dreamy synthy pop single. It's just hard to wrap one's mind around that :P

The story of Lou Pearlman and how he had so much influence on music why being a literal conman fascinates me. I don't know how I'd feel as a boyband fan haha

Yeah I have! I thought it was really interesting, especially since the only thing we really knew was how he took their money. I really wish the other members would have participated, but ah well.

I knew he screwed over the boy bands. I had no idea that he eventually moved on to screwing over people in general. Unbelievable stuff.

ah okay, I see. Well I do know a lot of people that don’t give a damn about lyrics, just the sound. I’m definitely not one of them, but they exist

blink 182 isn’t blink 182 without tom

I hate Tom’s voice so I thought I’d like blink even more when he left but I was sooo wrong

He should have said “down in the dirt “and they’re also should’ve been for more lines during the last verse. I felt like it ended to abruptly and he could’ve gone on a little more to make it match the second verse along with the instrumental before that

I've known some of the story for years, so it doesn't really faze me. But to hear more of it from others involved was fascinating.

The way I see it Insomniac>21stcb. So I didn't mean epic stadium rock music is better than punk rock as everyone replied to me. I commented on the quality of the lyrics mostly.

I promise better quality from Green Day after I purchase GDC

Gotta admit that I am not the biggest fan of this song. I'm glad most of you seem to like it though!

Thank goodness it doesn't have a generic rap part.

I just listened to the three songs we have from FOAM and have to agree with those who have said so already, there is clearly a vibe going on here and I think it's very modern/current and fitting for the times.  I understand that it's a bit of a leap for some and I am little surprised at how much I like myself so far but Oh Yeah! is really catchy and typical "sounds pretty upbeat but listen to the lyrics" Billie Joe style.  It is clearly Green Day, just another version of them.

Yeah, its a song by The Network. A Green Day Side project. For some reason it's just gotten mixed up and somehow ended up on an actual Green Day record (Which is still 100% a troll... God please be a troll)

Absolutely!! I actually really like "Oh Yeah!" and am currently listening to it on repeat for the "memorize the lyrics" phase of my "getting new GD music" routine 😅

After another listen with some of these comments in mind... I get The Network comparison.

Good thing I love The Network.
