Billie Hoe
7 minutes ago, Beyza said: I think he could mean they have a courage to experiment and try new things while everyone doing similar stuff in music general Lots of artists experiment. That doesn't make Green Day special. It's also not hugely experimental, they just toned down everything they've done before and did some things differently and called it a day. Their way of experimenting is becoming like literally everyone else you hear on the radio. I guess maybe Billie was just being conceited for the hell of it. jengd
3 minutes ago, Maddie86 said: Also, the verses sound like Billie is trying to do a "call and response" type thing, but it sounds weird when he's the one both calling and responding, so I think that will make this song extra awkward when played live, the verses would have sounded a lot cooler if Mike sang every other line I think I know what you mean, I don't know if it's deliberate or just something weird in the recording but it doesn't sound like he just sang it through, the lines don't follow each other in some way, it is almost like a call and response. I have no idea what the video is going to be like now. Quite like the groove they have going here though.
Thatsername
19 minutes ago, Bully Hoe said: I genuinely would like to know though what exactly Billie meant when he said that this album had the "biggest balls in music ever", because I'm pretty sure they've never released an album that was less provocative or was stirring up less emotions than what they've put out so far. The only thing they're provoking with is how bad the album cover, their attitude, and the songs that they've already released are. I don't mean to be nasty or anything, I am genuinely curious what is going on inside his head that makes him say that. The "biggest balls in music ever" could only be ... their confession that it is a troll album after all🤪 Ok sorry couldn't resist. The gravity of the loop is still strong sometimes, it's like a big black hole. I totally agree with everything you said though. Releasing AI back in the day when rock was dead and the last successful rock opera decades ago, that's what I call balls. The music we got so far doesn't sound very revolutionary, more very adapted to the general taste, so I don't see any balls yet. But who knows, maybe there will be a surprise when we hear the other 7 songs.

Is it that different from all those bands that do slightly alternative pop, like Imagine Dragons or maybe something else, but with this soft sound/catchy melody/sound that will easily blend into top 40 radio? It's not the same as Coldplay but not that far imo.

Yes I think it's different, I can hear many things in here, maybe even some Gorillaz as someone said But as always it's marked with a Green Day sound that makes it quite unique IMHO. How is American Idiot different from all the punk rock music that existed in the previous 30 years? They didn't reinvent the wheel with it, they used it in a smart and unique way. I don't want to make comparisons, but I think with this record they are doing the same, but in a different way.

Obviously GD fans are gonna be upset when GD doesn’t sound like GD, because they like the sound of GD.

I hear a lot more of Cage the Elephant or Foster the People, which to concede your point, could easily blend into the charts, but this sounds nothing like Imagine Dragons, which I would catalogue as anthemic pop along with groups like Coldplay or Panic at the Disco. I think there's a difference between pop influenced indie groups, which tend to go for a chill and groovy sound and sometimes crossover to the radio, like Tame Impala, and the mainstream pop-rock that usually goes for a more arena oriented sound.
