“Oh Yeah!” Music Video

I was super negative after listening the song for the first time yesterday. But after a couple of listens I’m already singing along to it

I really like the video, it conveys a good message. I do like the contrast with the When I Come Around video, where each person watches the other until it goes full circle. But with Oh Yeah no one is paying attention to anyone and is clinched to a small screen and barely aware of their surroundings. Funny how much has changed in 30 years.

This. I just realized this after reading someone saying the same on reddit, not sure if it’s voluntary, but it’s so true and so cool. Makes me like the video even more.

I thought When I Come Around as well maybe if it fucked Back In The USA.

I like Billie's positioning in the video. I relate to that character. He's disconnected from the others who are participating in the trend.

The lyrics of the chorus part speak to me.

Everybody is a star
Got my money and I'm feeling kinda low
Everybody got a scar
Ain't it funny how we're running out of hope

I won't explain how I relate to it. Think about it on a deep level. Also someone in the comments said "wtf is burning books in a bulletproof backpack like literally". If you're looking up a GD song and you're taking Billie's words as 100% literal meanings you're a legitimate legal retard. It's called art. Use your fucking brain moron. If he wrote it literal and verbatim the lyrics wouldn't be lyrics. It would be a non-fiction book that puts everyone to sleep. It's open ended. For me it takes me back to history books that omitted details strategically to sway youth's opinions on what is fact or not fact. Burn that shit and you force them to have to search for the answers.

That 'Got my money' refers to what or who for you, do you have any idea? I know it doesn't have to be something but I translated the song to my language earlier. It didn't seem fit the context but overall I could translate it easily. It's usually hard since there is no proper sentences in the songs.

I can't speak for Billie but essentially, like Billie money isn't really an issue for me. I don't really feel comfortable going into that here on the forum but it's necessary to understand my view on these lyrics and how I relate to it.

I can basically purchase anything I want but it's off the mark in the sense that I need something beyond a material good or financial security to truly make me happy. I've had friends of all different walks of life. Some of my favourite moments have been in small shitty one bedroom apartments before I was financially secure just spending time with those people. Well people move away, dynamics change and sometimes you only see them once in two years or whatever. The point is that quality time with people is beyond that. However, the economy has been harsh for most people in my age group and they're slaves to money for survival and then find themselves with no time after work is done. They have their money and they're feeling low.  The reward is just money. They may value their time more and yet they aren't getting any.

I think another thing is just seeing how people interact with each other now. That depresses me personally. It would whether I was broke or chilling in a gated community. Essentially money is just a reward for your effort and time. It's a necessity to a certain extent for survival. You can have all of it and still not be fulfilled. I can have anything I want for a collection but if I couldn't write and record my music then my life would be nothing

I'm a communicator and I find it hard to communicate with people now. People are losing the ability to elaborate or think beyond simple concepts and ideas. Meme culture is destroying that. People think one sentence can describe a complex social or political situation. People are relying on them to form opinions. Half the times the people who made the meme or are being quoted aren't even educated or they're just nobodies. Just people who serve with backing up a bias someone has. Everybody is a star right? I'm going off on a tangent here now so I'm gonna stop. There's endless things though when it comes to this topic.

I think that "Got my money and I feeling kinda of low" is a hit on himself.

BJ (as others in the band) aren't precisely struggling people (with money issues at least). He made a profitable career, he has made cool moves supporting directly or indirectly other people, but seems is not enough for him. With all the chaos and hate floating around, even with all the help he can give, is only touching a small group. Is kind of a megalomaniac thing, but also express his frustration for not being able to do something else, even if his past efforts were significant.

It is for sure. It's a hit on everyone at the same time. I mentioned above money is necessary for survival. People have to get money whether it's handed to them on a government cheque, handed to them as cheque from a boss or whatever it may be.

The point is money is just leverage in transactions. It doesn't leverage your happiness or fulfill you in the way that making an album would or painting something on a canvas.

If someone offered me 1 million a week but I could never write or play music again it wouldn't really be a discussion for me. I would say what's the point of the money if I can't even use it towards something bigger than the money itself. What am I gonna buy a Porsche? What type of music can I make with that?

Troll album, confirmed, case closed.

Rapper guy could be featured on Magnum Opus of A-holes.   Or maybe on another track from FOAM.

Dunno. All I know is I can't wait to get home and rock out to OH YEAH.

Someone was saying there are no real instruments in the song.  Incorrect! I hear at least four "real instruments".

"Oh Yeah" is the coolest single the band have dropped since....

I don't know. One of the American Idiot singles!

I wonder what concept I will create in my brain for this record....

It’s a fight with 21CB, EJN and Bang Bang, and at the moment I still prefer those, but it’s a grower for sure. I think I do like it more than any other single they released after the AI era.

As for Tyla, at this point I think Billie is gonna appear in his video :D It will probably be released next week as teased by the Wolf Sauce account.

Money is a theme in the story arc.

Father of All, Oh Yeah and Take the Money and Crawl all mention it.

There's definitely something cool about this single. The fact it's the first time in a long time (outside of FOAMF) that they released a song with a fresh sound. Not only is the single refreshing but it also has a great quality video. Part of GD's charm in the 90's and early 2000's were having good music videos that show off their silly side but also give you some insight behind the lyrics and meaning of the song.

I know it's vastly different than anything they've ever released before and alot of the old school hardcore fans are gonna hate this song but this song is gonna do something for this band. Honestly, I'm tired of great acts that have been around for 30+ years having to take a backseat to "relevant" acts that will disappear in the next 3-5 years.

I see some people comparing and contrasting this to Blink's Blame it On My Youth. I get that comparison but I think this song has a charm that Blink's doesn't have. Billie's vocal range is much wider than Mark's so I think it's objectively a better vocal performance and I think GD's lyrical content is much better on this song than Blink's song. I'm not a fan of the Blink song but Travis gives that song it's really strong rhythm which makes it a jam for others.

GD's charm also sits with the fact that everyone in that band has been in the band going back to the early 90's. Their classic line up is their current line up. I think Blink loses something by taking Delonge out of the equation. Nothing against Matt Skiba who's achieved a lot in his own career, he's just not a classic member so that affects the chemistry.

Blood and money seem to be referenced together in both singles

I thought maybe there was official word on it being cancelled.

I don't know why they don't just get indie filmmakers from the East Bay to just do it. Fuck HBO. Overrated garbage.

Everyone’s so focused on this being about technology. I feel like they’re missing the point about self-absorption and not paying attention to what’s happening in the world right now.

Yes, I think it's also kinda about the lack of sensibility and normalizing things more easily (couldn't find the exact word for it) in the current society. The lyrics make the connection between the current things social media brought us and how people don't really pay attention to actual things happening in the world these days.
