Omg Billie is looking so hot in the music video heh 😍😍😍 and I love the style of the video, it fit the vibe! I think this is my favorite song(so far) off Father Of All!

I like that it makes me think of the song in a new way, it seems less like Bang Bang lyrically now.  Very effective video.  I note that Billie is the only one without a phone in it (but is the subject of a lot of other people's phones).  Kind of expresses his weird life always in front of a camera too.

It's funny because Billie once had to get saved from being hit by a car by his millennial son because he was livestreaming his walk to the cinema on Instagram

Irony of ironies 😄  He'd be the first to admit he's as bad as the rest of us when it comes to our phones.

I do like the opener though and the way it's shot.  First we're watching Tre do a drum tutorial and then it pulls out and a guy is watching it while driving his car.  He's so engrossed in a Green Day video he doesn't notice Billie right in front of his car.  Then after his initial shock he just starts filming him.  Very funny commentary.

Why else would they seemingly have shot an entire video, comment on all the rappers stuff, then not include him.

I didn't know that lol but he definitely loves live streaming and filming in the shows. I always thought it kinda contradicts when he said put the phones down to the fans in concerts or public (There was a video he was preaching to a girl that taking selfies with him but not actually look at his face at all lol)

Yeah public callouts for people photographing him on stage were kind of his thing during the Revrad era. I get that musicians want to make eye contact with the crowd and it kind of sucks when people shove phones in your face when you're right in front of them but a lot of people felt guilt tripped for taking pics to remember the concert. I for one felt very uncomfortable when he did this. He's a hypocrite tho, he usually snaps pic or videos or livestreams during shows he goes to too.

I'm sorry the whole NO PHONES bothers me. I get it. It really sucks when people do it too much or they record the whole damn show. Sadly, if that's how they want to enjoy the ticket they paid for, that's on them. But as you said, it makes others feel guilty. I like snapping a few photos and maybe recording a song or two. Mainly for myself, but sometimes I have to for my job. And some people get so damn worked up about it, it feels like I'm gonna get yelled at or worse by others. Still, I try to be mindful of others who want to enjoy the show. Personally, I think the way worse behavior is people who talk throughout the whole damn set. And it's not even about the show! They're talking about their fucking day!

I think it's more about that we should all enjoy the moments during the show and actually experience them in real life and not just through a display, because then we don't need to go to a show, we can watch them on YouTube for free

The video started off looking promising but then didn't really go anywhere. Bits are good (Tre in it is the greatest) and the aesthetic is cool but they could've done a lot more with it. Never progressed any further than going back and forth showing the various people not doing much.

Also maybe I missed it on the first viewing but was Tyla Yaweh even in it?

As far as we know, he wasn't in it at all. And I agree with you. I was waiting for something else to happen, but it never did. I like the concept a lot, but as you said they could've done so much more with it. The start of the video is awesome though!

Yeah he does not appear at all, I guess they’ve always been two separate projects. Maybe they shot the Tyla video where Billie appears the same day/in the same locations, so they kinda shared the backstage. Sounds weird, but I guess this means we need a new “Billie Joe in Tyla’s video” thread :P

I get that but there is still no reason to pick out individual fans in a crowd full of people holding up their phones to berate them specifically about using their phone. He may not have been aggressive or anything but even a kind-worded reprimand in front of a crowd of thousands of people and more if you count those who watch a recording on YouTube would be incredibly humiliating for anyone I think, especially when technically you didn't do anything wrong, you just didn't do what the front man wanted you to do. It's just an unnecessary thing to do, there are other ways to make a statement, you know?

I think we can all agree that shows are a lot more fun when everybody puts their phone away and just enjoys shit. But I have to say that being a short person who likes to be in the front where it can get really crowded especially with tall people right in front of you, I often found it beneficial when the person in front of me held up their phone and filmed what was happening on stage so that I could get a glimpse. It can be annoying but it's not necessarily a bad thing. I did once go to a Green Day show and managed to be at the barrier and made a point not to take out my phone during the entire show (also kind of because I was anxious to be called out lmao) and I had the time of my life, but I only did it because it was the third time that I saw them that year and I already had enough photos that I could put on my wall. For people who only get to see them once, I understand if they don't want to put their phone away but snap a couple of pics or film some parts of the show to watch later and remember the show they went to.

Not to get off-topic: there is more than enough reason to criticize smartphone culture like they did with this video but it can be a tightrope walk because find me one person below 60 who isn't dependent on their smart devices nowadays. I think Billie is valid to voice his criticism especially since he's from a different time when filming shows and holding up smartphones in your face wasn't commonplace and I'm sure he misses those times, but he can get kind of preachy at times and doesn't hold himself to the same standard. I like the video and it's fun but the way it's framed with Billie being the only one not using technology in a world full of smombies is kind of hypocritical, because Billie is also one of those people but sometimes he likes to pretend he's not.

After listening to it, I can definitely see why this was chosen as a single. Out of all the songs on FOAMF we’ve heard so far, this one seems like it would appeal to the mainstream mostly. Mid tempo, positive message, pronounced beat, a more modern style in the video’s look and direction, etc.

As for what I think of it, It’s not bad. I would’ve much preferred a banger, but I can appreciate the attempt to a new direction. Doesn’t have the same pizzaz as FOAMF or FRA. But, at the very least, Oh Yeah! feels more focused.

I understand your point, and sure, he can be preachy but at the end of the day he is an entertainer who had massive success with criticising others, so don't forget that it is a combination of his personal beliefs but show as well.

Hmm I'm not sure I agree. Surely when you criticize others you should try to hold yourself to the very same standard that you set, right? This is an extreme example, but if I murdered someone, I wouldn't go up to all my other murderer cellmates like "how could you do this, murder is wrong". I wouldn't tell others to put their phones away if I, myself, don't put my phone away. It's not his job to criticize others or preach but to write music. Surely he can do it but that's not his whole thing, that's not what an entertainer does generally, except when you're a late night show host like Colbert or something like that. You don't get a "You Don't Have To Practice What You Preach"-card just because you're a successful entertainer. I know many people on this forum don't agree with me, but Billie generally has a very relaxed approach towards holding himself to his own standard and doing as he preaches.

Just watched it over at rolling stone.

It's really aggrevating to google "green day oh yeah" because it's so vague.

The song is growing on me, and the video is weird and different.

Glad to see the guys doing something other than playing their instruments (I feel like concerts are where you can see that, no need for it in every video).

The concept is cool.

If Billie would shave his head, this era would be perfect.  He needs to take a que from Tim Armstrong!

I think he is just one harsh criticism away from going full 2007-Britney Spears, so we might just see the day

Loved the boys, the aesthetic, and the way it was shot but as people on tumblr put it, the “ok boomer” energy it radiated bummed me out.

also I find it funny that in the album cycle they tried to use TikTok as a way for promotion they go after social media. That, and when I listen to the song I don’t really get anti-social media vibes besides the “everybody is a star” line. I still think Bulletproof Backpack fit it better.

If Billie shaves his head make sure he gets that girl from the video to shave her pits while they're at it
