Are you excited about the direction Green Day is heading

Still better than what Tre had to offer at this point so far

Wrong!

Tré had Brutal Love, that alone makes it better. It also had a number of other far superior tracks. The only track on that album that I think is comparable to these two tracks in terms of quality is Drama Queen, and tbh that song might be better than them too. I still really liked the whole trilogy, this is just going to be a very short and disappointing album

I found Tre slow and boring for the most part but Green Day's catalog and music as a whole is subjective.

Green Day has done so many different things over their career.

Maybe we could go back to less critical times and just say we're happy they're alive and healthy and that's what matters and any music we get is just a bonus. :P last night I was searching for something and looked at our old threads from revrad era and I don't understand how this gloom, bickering place got so overwhelmingly positive back then

i am not. i really wish they’d be more experimental. not in terms of “rock opera” but something conceptual and mature. Billie is a great songwriter, since after 21CB (which gets flack for being poor lyrically but i think it’s srill great) he has been borderline horrible. The sound they’re experimenting with now, from what we’ve heard, is a step backwards. It’s worse than anything they’ve ever put out, and lyrically it’s pretty fucking embarrassing.

Billie could make and album like Tommy, In The Aeroplane Over the Sea or even something like Jesus Christ Supermarket if he really wanted to. Something like warning but more in depth, more horns, odd instruments etc.

His accoustic ballads that are unreleased are also great lyrically, literally all of them. I wish that’d translate to the new stuff.

Didn't see a post about Green Day possibly covering "Bad Blood" by Taylor Swift because of some issues she is having with her label.

Interesting, because Jesse Malin did a cover of that song some years ago and it was very good.

I think it would sound amazing by Green Day.

I feel the same about Tre. The only song I remember is Brutal Love and while I think that song is amazing, it's not enough to save that album for me.

That song doesn't do a whole lot for me. Like it's fine, but it's not one I seek out.

There's so many songs and it makes the trilogy such a complicated project to breakdown because some songs are written well but didn't translate well in the finished product that we got and so many other situations. Either way, it's a completed project and we can accurately rank the project as we've heard it from start to finish. To rag on FOAMF while only hearing 2 songs (the two commercially pushed tunes to top it all off) is just premature. Atleast with what we've heard so far it is definitely a unique project for the band and that's not necessarily something we can say about Tre.

With Uno, it's a really light and fun album which was a breath of fresh air for us after 2 heavy concept records that were much darker in nature. Uno had enough of it's own themes and new sounds that it was intriguing but also borrowed enough from old Green Day projects which tied it into the discography quite nicely. With Dos, the rocking tunes captured the energy, it was fun but darker than uno which created a nice contrast in the sequence. With the select few songs we all dislike we can easily skip those or omit them completely from our devices for a more focused tracklist.

Tre just lags but hence it's the hangover. It's also got that hangover feel where it's not really light or dark, not entirely happy or sad. Most of the songs are just equal to eachother but in the opposite way of Dookie or American Idiot. You can omit songs, or change the tracklist but essentially you'll be left unsatisfied. I get the whole hangover theme but it could have been done with more proficiency. However, there was 37 songs that we got and probably another 10 that were omitted entirely from the project. I think it's fair to say they were exhausted. They completed the project quite quickly, the boys worked extremely hard on it.

I really love this era.  The band seem to really care about little details this time around, and it's making the whole thing really special.

The weird teases.

The weird interviews, calculated for entertainment.

The weird artwork, calculated for 'making a fuss'.

The Hella Mega Tour is near perfection.

and then when Billie Joe held up that dollar bill during their last performance, I felt like that was a watershed moment for them, despite all they've done prior.   Not sure if that was planned or where it came from, but it was a special moment.   I feel like Green Day were enjoying that performance more than any of the other ones this year.

My ONLY fear is that they won't release more than 3 singles, which considering we've already got two and one is promoting something else, would be a travesty.
