Not sure I understand them anymore, it just seems like they are going for a market they shouldn't be going for.

If you're referring to Beatsaber, it's a virtual reality rhythm game that involves hitting cubes with lightsabers to the beat of music. Its quite fun but really hard to master. Miko
Holy FUCKING SHIT. Welcome to Paradise hasn't sounded that good IN FUCKING YEARS. Billie Joe didn't sound old (though Jason White looked soooo old), their playing was on point (compared to that beautiful Tiki Bar show that some guys actually thought this is what Green Day is in 2019) and I just love these guys so much. Father of All was by far their best perfomance of that song. I love it. Thank fucking god Green Day is still giving us so many killer perfomances and are fucking everywhere. I AM THE FANBOY. MillenniumFan
Wow I'm late to the discussion, but what is going on with Billie's voice, it's the best it has been since maybe 2011!!! Insane. Welcome to Paradise sounded soooo good!

Just compare 2011/2012 perfomances to 2013 onwards, and again to this year. His voice is just so damn fucking good.

MillenniumFan
I mean the performance there isn't really that good either and he also didn't drink as much on that night as at iHeart. Personally, I think it's because he took lessons, or some advice, or simply because he's been doing vocal exercises. But I don't know, it's all speculation anyway. Either way, a little alcohol can in some cases improve the voice, but only a little.

I wouldn't say it's always been cool to hate GD. They were extremely well liked from Dookie to American Idiot. Most of the hate came from underground scenes that felt like GD stole punk or threw it out to the mainstream or something. Most of those people are collectivists and are mad at anyone that supported their families properly or anyone that's actually able to retire and enjoy life with a high quality. Come to 21cb Green Day is now a top 5 relevant rock band when it comes to popularity and even album sales. NOW it's cool to hate Green Day. They evolved to the point where everyone can try and claim they've lost it and they're as popular as you can get in this game and everyone is aware no matter what they're legacy level and going nowhere. When you reach that level you'll have as many people hate you as people that love you. The difference 10 years later is that these little shitheads who play fortnite have no fucking respect. When I was growing up Rush were around GD's age. I never laughed and said look at those boomers. As a musician I knew that these guys were far superior to their peers and far superior to me instrumentally. I shut my fucking mouth and studied what they did. I'll say one thing I've argued with many people about Green Day's live show and when it ended with "just go see them live" the people that did all came back and apologized. If someone can't have fun at a Green Day show they're a fucking loser. Edit: and for my last statement just wanna say you don't have to be the biggest fan in the world of them or their songs.. although those who gave them a shot ended up being just as obsessed with the band as I am lol
Miko
I've just always been curious why Billie Joe sounded awful in 2013 compared to any other year. I've just thought it's because of alcohol, but then again I have not researched this at all. That Game Awards perfomance was so fucking good tho, so is it because of singing lessons or aging or alcohol, I don't care. All I care is that The Boys™ sound good right fucking now and I'm excited. I don’t think he was awful in 2013 but he did peak in vocal quality in 2010 and it’s been a slow decline from there hitting a low in 2017. He definitely has done something deliberate, whether it’s lessons or changing the way they play to accommodate his changing voice. I wish someone would ask him in an interview. The problem is that Rush most probably didn't try to market their music to kids at that stage of their career. It's possible that Green Day get an ok, boomer reaction, because to the audience it looks like they present themselves in a "how do you do fellow kids" manner. Kids who play fortnite probably listen to some sadboi rap or something. Green Day really isn't relevant for them. However, it's nothing new. They've always got hated on for bs reasons like eyeliner and that also makes sense here. Not to generalize like gamer = incel, but gamers are exactly the type of people who would bitch about Green Day because their fragile masculinity can't handle anything that doesn't look 100% straight. The crazy thing is I know a ton of gamers - especially retro gamers that love GD. Most of them are older yes. Although my younger cousins that just graduated high school also love Green Day and I've seen them at shows lol I think gamers that are in that age though are just extremely toxic. I spent a total of 2 days on a gaming forum once. They had political threads and then of course threads for new games coming out and I have to say what a bunch of weirdos (and not in the good way). Here's what loses me though. I am an outcast and I'm sure most of the people commenting last night would identify as that as well. I don't have any social issues or anything like that I just stick to myself and like niche things. In high school I would refuse to use the popular lingo cause as I said that would give all the mainstreamers juice. Instead me and my group of friends made our own lingo rather than conforming to internet meme jokes like "boomer". All these outcasts last night proved that deep down they're not really outcasts they're just another herd of sheep that don't fit in. They have the DESIRE to fit in though. I'd hate to be in that herd. I fall into Billie Joe's school of thought here. It's cool to be different and to embrace it. Don't dilute your personality because you might make some new fake friends. I bet atleast 50% of the boomer commenters own a GD album or have atleast 4 songs on their devices or have streamed atleast 4 of their songs within the last 5 years. The comments after the AMA performance were overwhelmingly positive and that wasn’t nearly as good as last night’s. It seems that a lot of these gamers are the type that like to just slam everything. The awards accounts were posting after the show and were absolutely getting attacked about the show, the winners, etc. I mean like attacked in a really nasty way. Not a good look for that community. He had a bad case of asthma diagnosed shorty after 21cb tour most likely due to the large amount of cigarette smoking he did especially around AI If you can't breathe while singing you're in trouble. May have had to work on his vocal technique to find a way to breathe better for the songs and of course over the years of cutting the habit you do see your health slowly return to normal. His issue in 2013 didn't help those performances either. 2017 wasn't great vocally for him. He was aware cause this time around is a huge comeback. I think this could be applied to any target audience. Even when GD promotes his work through “genre” channels like Kerrang or Rolling Stone, reading comments and reactions on social media is not a pleasant experience Yet they manage to still be here making new music. What I mean is that for sure they will not conquer the majority of the game awards audience, but it can still broaden their public. They clearly have an aging audience, there’s still an incredible amount of kids in the fanbase, and that’s amazing, but the streaming platforms numbers show that it could be much better. I think it’s worth the attempt, and that any marketing strategy would attempt something like that. Whether it will work out or not I don’t know, but at least compared to previous marketing campaigns (ehm ehm Trilogy), this one is keeping an identity and its dignity. And they always did this kind of promotion, at least since 21CB cause that’s as far as I remember

Yeah well these are people who hold 0% power in their lives. They build their self-esteem by slamming more talented people and projects on the internet. They're a very scary group of people. Potential semi-automatic lonely boy sociopaths. They're not all this way but I mean we all saw the comments lol These people go to their jobs and get told what to do 100% of the time and they go home whine about and play video games and ask why it's this way. I play video games too but what I'm talking about is a specific breed/culture that's a part of gaming. They don't represent everyone who plays. Anyone who's led a project as big as a video game to completion will respect what was presented last night and generally be excited about the technology regardless if they plan to be a customer or not.
