I don’t know what Billie did in the interim but he must have done something because his voice is markedly improved this tour. You can really hear it when he sings Good Riddance. He’s straining less, his tone is more pure, he’s pitch perfect. I’d love to know if he made conscious adjustments on his own or he worked with a vocal coach but it’s too noticeable to not have been intentional

I wonder if basket case twice was due to the recording for MTV, maybe they asked them to go again?

Wait so they cut KFAD but kept Shout? That's literally the exact opposite of what I've been saying they should do for years lol

They didn't play Jaded. Kevin was there and very nervous. He was watching Jason closely which was cute! The double Basket Case was just a "fuck it" moment and Billie told us to go crazier the second time.

None of the 1500 VIPs went for the barrier, so me, my mum and Claudia got spots in front of Jason - which I was thrilled with to say how tired I was by doors! The staff were great. They actually demanded a number system and called us into the queue by numbers. At one point they climbed over the barriers to kick line cutters out.

The Spanish band who opened were fantastic. I didn't catch their name. They had so much energy. I wasn't super impressed with The Struts but that might have been because they're from the same part of England as me, so it's nothing I haven't seen before. The MTV guy introducing the bands didn't really know what to say about Green Day because he knew we were all waiting impatiently. No drunk bunny, but Bohemian Rhapsody played and the band came onstage to Blitzkrieg Bop.

Minority as the opener was a surprise! They also played Waiting which I didn't expect. The band were on fire. I didn't care that they played the hits because just watching them in such good form is as exciting as deep cuts. It was interesting to see the setlist rearranged, too. The venue was beautiful and crowd amazing. Everyone was jumping, dancing, screaming and having fun. Father of All sounded great. The guy Billie picked to sing Know Your Enemy totally deserved it. I don't suppose he's on GDC but if he is, thanks for sorting out the numbers and congratulations!!!

Bang Bang was probably the highlight for me. It was just so good and could easily be the new St. Jimmy. A cameraman also kept filming us so my vanity hopes we'll be in the videos (although I'm sure I look like a proper twat).

I'll write up a full recap when I get home but yeah I've ticked a dream off the list seeing Green Day at MTV World Stage :D And seeing Green Day is always a dream anyway!

Interesting setlist, do you think that this tour they are going to mix up the order more? Judging by the three shows we've had so far that is the case. Personally I hope they don't leave KFAD out of the setlist for the main shows but we'll find out in March I suppose. Strange that there's been no Fire Ready Aim yet

The truck driver told me on Wednesday that after the Seville show all their equipment will be flown out of Europe (via London).

The interesting thing is that in the last few years the thing I’ve noticed the most with his vocals was that he was often off-key. In addition to the other things you mentioned. One of the best things about his voice previously was that he always was pitch perfect, so I thought that maybe he was now having the effects of inevitable hearing loss with age and a lifetime of loud noise exposure. But now he seems much more on pitch again. If anyone knows a lot about voice technique, I’m wondering how you go about correcting pitch issues that go with aging? Just curious.

I thought his voice was perfect on revrad, not off key at all. He was also amazing yesterday but just as usual. During basket case and she he sang in a very regular way, while during revrad he would try things to push himself and it sounded great. There he's just improved on father of all like he had improved on still breathing as the tour went on.

You just have to really practice longer and more often. As we go on in our lives our voices change. These can be very small changes but can affect our performances. Working on expanding range is the most efficient way. Sometimes small rephrasing of vocal lines can help as we age.

I just got through another change in my voice as well as some tinnitus issues and ive been sounding better myself lately.

It is. HOWEVER, ever since the trilogy tour, the drawn out version that they keep doing with Billie's weird "woke" rant in the middle of it (don't come at me, I agree with Billie politically, but it's still annoying af) and an excessive number of "eehh-oohh"s really doesn't appeal to me at all. Back in 2004/2005 or even 2009/2010 that song was amazing live, because they just played the song. But if they don't cut the shit in the middle, I wouldn't mind dropping it either.

Agree, I would’ve said the same about Hitchin a Ride but that was actually kind of fun when I saw them in 2017 lol

Yeah this tour needs to be about the music

It seems like they got the memo from the little we’ve seen so far. The shows seemed streamlined and efficient and the songs sound as close to the recordings as I’ve ever heard them. Like with FOAMF itself, less is more.

Letterbomb is one of my favorites, but I agree the break kind of ruins it. I'd be happy if they cut the crap and kept playing it though. The AI part that can leave is AWTW/St. Jimmy, because Bang Bang with Billie not playing the guitar substitutes it well.

Or we just do Bang Bang/St.Jimmy

I'm applying as the band's setlist director. I'm thinking we cut out Dookie and AI to make way for Tre songs.

This made me think of Billie saying how hard it was to create setlists during a recent interview...are you kidding me  ? You wanna know about creating setlists, talk to The Cure. Robert Smith will change it mid-performance depending on his mood. I love Green Day, but the setlist thing always gets me lol. Not to say no thought goes into GD's setlist, but doesn't seem that hard when you're performing the same songs from your three biggest albums.

Yeah Robert Smith amazes me with the setlist. They do a heavy rotation. But they also have a fanbase and a body of work that supports that. Chances are if you're into The Cure and you're from N.A you're into more obscure music and chances are you appreciate the deep cuts.

GD is too mainstream and will be expected to play hits from over the years. That's one of the limitations.

Everytime I think I don't like a GD song they play it live and I change my mind
