HAPPY ZOMBIE UNICORN
I just listened to the full interview, it was really interesting. Finally someone properly asked about the future with Warner and I think it's quite clear that it is not really a matter of money, but of freedom to release singles and EPs whenever they want. They want to do this, and as Mike says "this is more their (Warner) problem than my problem". I think that if Warner accepts this they will stay, if it doesn't happen they go indie (or more likely end up having the full package with Crush). If they’re doing a Billie Eilish collab, the last tiny spark of hope I have left for this era will say sayonara. Yeah not sure how it would work. I'll say I've followed the Joe Strummer idea where it's important to support the new sounds that are emerging and remain open minded even if they are different than what you were doing 10 years before or whatever. Rewind 12-13 years ago I was in a pop punk band and then a harder punk band that was somewhat a more modern version of what The Clash were. At the time we were one band in a small group of local punk bands. A couple places shut down, bands broke up and musicians grew or explored other things. Now there's no real straight punk bands for the most part but I do hear elements of it in new music. The last 2 years I've been exploring newer bands, many of which have fused elements of punk with all these new sounds and rhythms. For the most part I enjoy it and really respect these young musicians that are on their way up and keeping the spirit of it alive. Billie Eilish has made a big splash this year so naturally I checked out her stuff as I'm doing my best to remain open minded. However, she just didn't make an impact for me personally. She's a pop star really before anything imo. She's following that trend of pop stars that want to be the pop stars of alternative music. I never bought into that whole thing. As a person she seems alright though but musically I'm just not in the market she's catering to.

This is interesting because they've been wanting to put out music more often for quite a few years now. It seems Warner has been blocking that as much as they can. The trilogy counted as a single album. Billie even said: "we checked *chuckle*". One can only imagine how much music we would have gotten if it had counted as three albums. RevRad may not have ever happened and FOAM definitely wouldn't have happened. As much as I love RevRad, I can't help but wonder 'what if'. A "free" Green Day would have happened way back in 2012 / 2013.

The Grohl
Billie Ellish makes me feel old because I just don't get her Nothing against her! But I've tried listening to her music and just wasn't into it.

MillenniumFan
Because I’m growing impatient, I went back to check when the 2016 videos were uploaded. Turns out they were all uploaded on the same day, but 14 days later. Here we are with one video 2 days later, but so far no others... man, I really hope they release the other two, that mix is awesome!

The point is they'd have more freedom to release music as often as they wanted to, which seems like something Crush would be into. Weezer has put out like 4 albums in the last 3 years and are constantly doing stuff as a working band, no 2-3 year long breaks like we're used to with Green Day. jengd
I would think that their issue is really how much the business has changed in their time with Warner. They probably had a fairly standard type contract from the days before downloads and streaming. This could be a straightforward renegotiation with Warner’s giving them more freedom. Hermione
I don't even like Billie Eilish's music at all but I'd like to hear a collab with Green Day because their styles are so different. Maybe with Green Day in the mix I would enjoy it, maybe not, but either way it would be interesting. Which is more than can be said for some of their collabs with more similar artists. Also is the original reason they communicated/met literally because both their names are Billie (the Billie bandana thing)? Because that would be the best reason for a collab happening ever. Haven't listened to any of this yet though, looking forward to doing so tomorrow. 5 hours ago, EmmaCharlatan&Saints said: Lol at everyone wondering how a GD /Billie Eilish collab would work because they have very different styles...as if bands and artists with very different sounds havent collabed before. Its actually kinda sad to see how gatekeepy and snobby Green Day fans are towards other music I like her stuff. And ya she is a breathe of fresh air compared to other artists in regards to how she presents herself to the masses. Basically a fuck you to how most artists are packaged these days I still remember when people were pissy about Billie collaborating with a "rap group" when he did a Lonely Island song lmao
Beerjeezus
I don't know...I really dislike when musicians try too hard to stay relevant resulting in soulless sounding collabs with popular artists, but at the same time I love when music has variety and it's always cool to see something different from Green Day, so I'm conflicted. Depends on how it sounds. I may not bitch at all if the song slaps
jengd
I think there have been some great, left field collaborations and would not be averse to hearing the two Billie’s or GD and BE if they did something interesting. I really like Billie Joe and Norah and think where artists admire each other’s work, great things can happen. I see no reason to assume these things are always done purely to cash in on a younger audience or to try and be more relevant, they are artists trying new things with different people. Slave To The Network
I've heard one song by Billie Eilish and hated it. It came on our work playlist and I was like "Oh, this is awful!" then went to remove the song and saw that it was by her.

We were talking about how great it would be to have Kevin with Green Day and it happened and continued to happen and I hope this is permanent! And Green Day is so ridiculously fascinating to fans that we have big opinions and passionate feelings on backup/third/whatever touring members 😆 but seriously disappointed to have seen Jeff still perform with the Longshot but super happy Kevin has been performing with Green Day. jengd
@solongfromthestars post won’t let me quote but I don’t think Billie looks guilty about having made a lot of money, nor does he need to, but I can understand that none of them feel too comfortable talking about money, most folk don’t and I think it’s interesting that famous/rich people seem to be asked about it more when they come from more humble origins. I guess that’s fair, it’s interesting to know how they feel about it and deal with it.

At uni I started a project (never finished it, though I still have the interviews) where I spoke to musicians who came from poverty and there was often an element of guilt when they talked about money. They pretty much said what Howard suggested about being embarrassed and feeling they didn't deserve it. The guilt was totally unnecessary because they'd all been through extreme hardship to get where they were. Doesn't mean that's the same for Green Day but yeah anyway, that was how I interpreted that awkwardness.

I thought he dealt with it pretty well really, he can hardly deny it and as they were just about to play a song, it wasn’t really the time to get into a serious discussion about dealing with sudden wealth.
