So I worked out more of the logistics....but I have no idea if I wanted to stand there for hours. I'm guessing people are going to queue up all day to ensure they can get in.

Do it! i can’t because of family commitments out in western Kansas, otherwise I’d be there

I'll sleep on it. It would be a hectic and tiring weekend.

But FUN! 😁

I knooooow. If I didn't have to travel it would be easy. The traveling and standing makes makes me question it for now. I don't want to show up and then get turned away. I wouldn't need to be in the front but I'd want to be somewhere where I could see something.

People sit on the line. The only standing happens once they let you in and you have to wait in the pit two hours for the show to start. Luckily it starts and ends pretty early so it will be a heck of a lot easier than Hella Mega will be with four bands to get through.

I love this idea, but then I pictured them as mascots of themselves! Big weird costume versions of Billie, Mike, and Tre. I want to see this, but I'm also not prepared.

Giant puppets!!

Another article about the free show here:

https://themusicuniverse.com/green-day-headlining-free-concert-2020-nhl-all-star-game/

PERFORMANCE IS PART OF A TWO YEAR PACT BETWEEN THE BAND AND THE NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE Green Day will be performing a free concert at the 2020 Honda NHL All-Star Game next week in St. Louis. The band will perform outside of the Enterprise Center on Saturday, January 25th before running inside to perform during the second intermission, presented by Ticketmaster. The outdoor performance is free to the public and will begin at 5 pm CT on 14th an Market Streets. The indoor performance will be televised as part of the All-Star game broadcast on NBC in the US and CBC, Sportsnet and TVA Sports in Canada at 8 pm ET/7 pm CT. Keep in mind, all fans attending the free performance will be required to go through metal detectors upon entry into the event area starting at 3 pm and all bags will be subject to search.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers’ appearance is part of a two-year, cross-platform marketing and promotional partnership between the band and the National Hockey League. Songs from Green Day’s Father Of All… are featured in NHL game highlights, broadcast bumpers, tune-in campaigns, and in-arena jumbotron content created and distributed by the NHL, its teams and television partners NBC Sports Group, Sportsnet and TVA Sports across their respective broadcast, digital and social platforms throughout the 2019/2020 season. “Green Day is the perfect band for the NHL. Their music fits so perfectly with the energy, speed and power that we witness on the ice and each and every night,” states NHL Chief Content Officer and Executive Vice President Steve Mayer on the band’s two-year pact. “We are so excited to start this partnership with the NBC Sports open. It was so much fun to shoot and we think our fans will love it.” “This NHL season is hereby known as LOUD season…where the toughest athletes to ever lace up a pair of skates meet the baddest rock band on the planet,” shares the band. “So turn up the volume on your TV sets, fire, ready, aim and enjoy the ride.”

Green Day will embark on a global stadium tour with Fall Out Boy and Weezer. The Hella Mega Tour presented by Harley-Davidson kicks off June 13th in Paris and will visit cities throughout Europe, the U.K. and North America. Additionally, the rock icons will perform a series of solo dates throughout Europe and Asia in support of Father Of All…

So how late is too late to get there to line up? If I went, I don't think I'd make it in time to get there by 6 or 7. But if I got there at 10 or 11 or 12, will there be too many people by then? I don't want to do it and then get turned away or not even see anything.

I doubt you’ll get turned away. I really don’t know what to expect or when people will get there but I would think anyone getting there by noon should at least be able to see I hope.

Good to know. I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth the effort to get out there. I won't be heartbroken if I can't or won't go. I really wish they'd give us some more information, like how many songs they intend to play. If it's an hour I'm guessing a good amount, which would be great. But I see last time they did free shows for GMA it was only 5 songs.

You all have fun and report back. I’ll be driving to no-mans-land Kansas on Saturday for a family event (I am actually excited about the family thing, just not the 4.5 hr one-way drive.)

I'm ngl I'm gonna be pissed if it's only five songs. I'm hoping that hour time they originally posted it true!

The time playing in the arena will be short but I can’t imagine they would set up a stage outside and describe it as a concert and then only play five songs, especially when they seem to be the only band playing that day.

Wait, so they are playing during the actual game?

They will play inside too during the second period break. It will be televised along with the game on NBC

O.A.R. plays Friday evening. Maybe the length of their set will give us a rough idea of how long Green Day will play. I'm taking Friday of work, so I'll probably check out the festivities around the arena that day and get the lay of the land.

Unrelated, but it can't be too often that they play outdoor sets in the winter. Might be a good question for @Todd; do you know of any notably cold performances off the top of your head?
