Unpopular opinion: I don't think Bayer was all that great. AI, BOBD and Holiday are good, but JOS and WMUWSE are quite cringy and the trilogy videos are unremarkable (I don't know if I watched all of them, to be fair. I think Stay The Night has a video but have no recollection of seeing it.) and then there's Oh Love. In my opinion both the videos from the 90s and 21CB videos are better than Bayer's "less good" videos.

Favorite GD Fuse moment/appearance:

I remembering watching this "live" on Fuse after school.

i miss this type of stuff as well and this type of thing was perfect promotion for them

"where do you see yourselves in 10 years? Will you still be making CDs"

Mike: It will be the next format (correct)

Interviewer: You guys will make the record and just send it to your fans (still correct)

Tre: We will still be on Fuse (THERE IT IS!)

I started typing out that only the long version of JoS (with dialogue) was cringe but then I went back and watched the short version for probably the first time since I was fifteen lol. It's way worse than I remember. Honestly remove the first part with his mom since it's basically "teenager who wishes he had the balls to talk back to his parents" fantasy (the part where he says goodbye can stay it's cute). Then remove/rework everything to do with the bathroom (super edgy and melodramatic) except him writing St. Jimmy on the wall before leaving (just edgy enough lol and there was an actual reason for it). The rest has a heavy-handed 2000's pop punk aesthetic that some might consider cringey in and of itself but that's obviously what they were going for so I'm not gonna fault it.

September is cringe cause it's super woke "dae war is bad guys?" but tbh I don't think they had much of a choice after everyone in the general public assumed the song was about the towers and the iraq war. Again though remove the shitty dialogue lol show don't tell.

The Breakdown videos are all incredible.

Bayer's videos are pretty good but they're not all winners. I just can't stand him because he's such an asshole.

Anyone like the video for Know Your Enemy? It's not their best but I like it more than pretty much every one since 2012 (Except Stray Heart maybe)

Yep. After so many videos, it has to be difficult to come up with concept after concept.

I like that video as it has one of those “Billie glances towards somebody/something off camera and melts it” look and the all look pretty good in it but it’s not massively exciting.

For comparison, Blink 182 Darkside video has 4,5mi views after one month and two days.

You guys think FOAM will reach that in same time?

So I was watching the comments on the video and one particularly called my attention, it was made by someone named Stephen Patt, i'll just copy and paste it here:

"Dear Green Day--I'm fond of you. I really am. The new single (produced by brilliant studio wizard Butch Walker) is just a wonderful, exciting piece of music--brash, energetic, and really stretches your three talents to the max. I would say kudos...but...I was priveleged to get a look at the original video for the song, and it was just incredible. Visionary, bold, in synch with the song to the max. It was funny, moving, and at the same time, just pure rock and roll. The new tame video you have released (which steals quite a bit from the original) is perplexing at best. The old footage with the bars across the eyes? Really? It's scattershot (and possibly scatterbrained) vision is a huge disappointment. Who decided to abandon the original video? The monkey in the bathtub?"

Normally, I wouldn't believe this kind of comments, but his story that the video was changed at last minute makes sense with the time gap between the audio and the video, the unreleased footage of Madonna Inn and Billie's comments about the making of. I wonder if they truly did make another video for whatever reason.

Wow that’s interesting. This could be the new C&V. The lost video we’ll never get to see 😭 It does make sense with their comments on it, and the behind the scenes video really didn’t explain anything. Ugh the way the original is described I really want to see it now ☹️

Same, I actually liked the new video, but the guy made the original one sound so interesting that i'm seriously thinking about hacking Reprise to steal that thing 😩

I replied to his comment maybe he can tell us more. Sounds like he doesn’t know why it was scrapped but it sounds like it was completed or nearly completed. I’d like him to describe it in more detail.

Do you think it had something to do with all the leaks and sightings when they were there?

I don't think so, leaks have never stopped them before and I think it actually helped to generate hype in the fanbase. From his description, i'm thinking it was perhaps deemed to be too controversial for their particular audience (maybe not so politically correct?) and their management recommended to change it for something safer.

That makes sense. Now I really want to know what it was about.

Those videos pretty much sum it up for me. He comes off as an arrogant jerk who thinks his work has been blessed by the Gods and is the greatest that anyone has ever seen.

I see someone that's just a bit intense but heavily driven tbh

He's there to do a good job and he's serious about it. I've worked with some people similar to him and never had an issue actually, we had the opposite of a problem we got stuff done with high quality.

To each their own. I see an asshole. Not saying he doesn't make some great stuff - he does - but I just don't like his demeanor.
