Not bad considering that this is the debut week of the Italian artists who participated at "Festival di Sanremo", the most popular Italian song contest and awards, held annually. https://www.fimi.it/top-of-the-music/classifiche.kl#/charts/1 That’s pretty good, they are the #1 international artist on the chart, for a “nationalist” country like Italy when it comes to music, especially this time of the year, that’s a good result. And they are topping Tiziano Ferro, couldn’t be happier
Aidana
I’m happy to hear it’s charting really well in European countries. USA needs to catch up
GuitarPunk94
GD could be #1 in germany too, as a german i have to say it is sooo embarrassing that a "Schlager-Music" album got #1 and GD "only" #2 😐😅
That Dude
Come on guys, I don't think all of you purchased 40 copies a piece like we discussed. I want everyone to go to greenday.com (or Amazon if you want it to arrive before 2069) and spend your money on this Magnum Opus!!!

This begs the big question, how many of the UK sales were Scottish & how many were English? 😛. First I’ve heard of official Scottish chart sales as well. CherryBombs&Gasoline
4 hours ago, HAPPY ROOTING UNICORN said: Quite interesting article discussing how album sales are dramatically declining, when comparing this record sales with previous eras this has to be considered: https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-46735093 Only between 2018 and 2019 these have declined of almost 10% (in the UK), in the last 10 years (in the US) of 80%. This might not explain everything, but it really has to be taken into account. Compare 2016 with what 2020 probably looks like, and this result in the UK is actually really good It's truly all about streaming, and streaming is mostly about singles, not necessarily albums. I think you need a certain amount of streams in order for it to be the equivalent of an album sale. That means that, theoretically, an album could receive a gold or even platinum-certification just because of one song. If you have one hit single on your album, and that song gets streamed a lot, that might actually make your album look much more successful, even if it's just one song that people are listening to. Also, some artists like Chris Brown make extensively long records with tons of songs on them. That way, you get more streams and therefore more sales. So the system is a bit confusing and can actually be manipulated. Rock music suffers from that though. I think that's one of the few genres where people still tend to buy physical copies. With that in mind, it's actually quite good to get a number one. Rock music generates less streams than other genres. And I think that people mostly listen to the hits on Spotify, not necessarily songs from the new album. That being said, I think FOAM was probably the first Green Day album (or project, if you take the trilogy into consideration) that didn't really have a hit single. So far, almost every record since Dookie either had a mainstream hit or a no. 1 on the alternative charts or something. FOAM didn't though, which is definitely a contributing factor, if you ask me. sampy
The album debuted #14 on the Finnish album chart and it was #4 on the physical album chart. That was actually better than I expected! https://www.ifpi.fi/lista/albumit/2020/7/

Squashie
According to this article (2016), it takes 1,500 streams to each 1 album sale. https://completemusicupdate.com/article/riaa-says-1500-streams-equals-one-album-sale-updates-gold-and-platinum-certifications/

DookieLukie
I'm always surprised how well Blink still sells. They were never as popular as Green Day, even at their peak, but even with their main member gone they seem to be more popular than Green Day now. Justin1
The only reason the album didn’t sell closer to 100k is because of the horrendous single choices. If they released Graffitia as their first single, and then released their Meet Me On The Roof video a week or 2 before the release, they would have done much better.
