Saw this on twitter....accurate?

#5 debut would be a bad look.

HDD is very accurate with their predictions. #5 sounds about right considering the singles haven't taken off, and given how polarizing this album is among the band's fanbase.

This site is reports #5 too. Isn't it only 4 days into the sales week? They don't get 7 days worth of sales?

RevRad debuted at #1 with 95,000 units sold. Father of All...has about half as many at this point. In comparison, Blink's most recent album sold 94k in the first week. Yikes.

I believe these are projected sales for the entire week. It's looking like 42-47k including streaming, 35-40k of that in pure album sales

Gotcha. So still half of what RevRad, and more recently, NINE sold in their first week.

Yep.. Not really strong at all, but February is also historically a bad month for albums sales. I was surprised when it was announced that this was coming out in Feb despite being ready in the fall, the best time to sell. Even so, it seems like a lot of their core fanbase was turned off by the singles (and maybe the whole album) based on social media reactions. These figures confirm that. A band with a strong core like Green Day should easily perform better than this.

I thought the 5 month pre-order period would lead to a big chunk of first-week sales.

Why is Fall better for sales? Do people listen to music in the Fall more? lol

The 5 month pre-order period would have benefited more if the lead single performed well. The loyal fans are usually the ones pre-ordering and it really just looks like a lot didn't show up for this release. The guys took that gamble when they decided to go for a different sound.

Consumerism is generally higher in the fall with the holidays and stuff, and things die down in the winter. Streaming has kind of bridged the gap in a lot of ways, but rock bands like Green Day don't get a huge boost from streaming. Their bulk is in traditional album sales. Basically all the albums ranked above them are fueled by strong streaming numbers.

Yeah they picked some dud singles. FRA is the worst on the album. Oh Yeah! is the second worst. Father of All...is a good track but it probably would have been better as a hidden gem rather than a lead single. Honestly, all of the songs on FOAM are solid but none of them are "hit single" material, which I think makes for a better album because it's very consistent in quality. At this point, GD could write the best song ever made and it wouldn't get much radio play. They should focus on legacy over popularity at this point.

Yeah, agree. It’s apparent they weren’t chasing any mainstream success with this album. Just look at the blatantly uncommercial title. They’re having a good time and letting people react however they want with that.

We have a #9 in the Japanese Album charts, glad that it gets recognition as well in Asia.

Haha and #6 is an album called „Lookie“ that looks like the Dookie cover 😂

Those numbers look really weak 🤔. I thinks that's even lower than Dos and Tre, and they flew pretty much under the radar. Maybe it's all the negative buzz? I don't know. But we shall see.

so there was that article yesterday about Father of All cruising towards a #1 in the UK, so why is it performing so much better over here? As far as I'm aware they've not even been over here to do any promotion, other than written interviews with Kerrang

Seeing what the other nine artists on the chart are, I guess this isn't that bad for a traditional rock band or is it?

Honestly, I think it's quite bad :D. RevRad sold over 90,000 in it's first week, so did the last album by Blink. And I think the Foo Fighters sold more than 100k copies of Concrete and Gold in the debut week 😅

I think the stupid cover itself has an impact on the sales list. But first bad choice of singles.

Ok, in this comparison it does look bad. RevRad sold twice as much (and I remember the GDC opinion was that it wasn't selling well lol). RR had advantages over FOAM though - it came out in fall, had well received singles, and its reception wasn't controversial at all, everyone kinda liked it.

Just to point out the actual data, I think these are pure album sales, not sure at what date, probably Monday. Nine sold 77.000 copies as pure sales in the first 7 days, 90k is including the streams generated consumption, which is not counted here. I think the same applies to the 90k RevRad sales someone mentioned, that is considering both pure album sales and stream generated.
Needles to say, every year the impact of streams grows. Let’s see how this looks like on next week’s Billboard.

Yeah, I also read an article that said that it might debut on #1 in Australia. Sometimes I think that at this point, Green Day is bigger outside of the states these days :D. I don't know if the messy roll out had an impact on US sales. Maybe so, whereas all of that doesn't really matter outside of America?

It’s almost like they didn’t want this album to sell
