BJ: ...its got a unicorn on the cover

ZL: what color is the unicorn?

BJ: "its sort of rainbow, bright, um its got a horn and uh is got funny eyes"

Yeah, but that I already know. I want to know why they re-used the American Idiot cover, how it came about, etc.

That was the extent of cover art talk...

Right, I'm listening to it. I wish Zane asked a few more questions about it.

There's only so much you can do to help someone. This really up to anyone but him.

Even if he's not sober, what does it mean for us? There's literally zero we can do for him, so let's just let him live his life without scrutiny and judgement.

I don’t think anyone is trying to be judgmental. And by all means, he can do what he wants with his life, and we have no idea what he does in private. People are just observing that there seems to be a negative mood shift from the RevRad era into more of a “party mode” thing that started around the trilogy era. The vibe they’re going for is “out of control” and yeah, that is kinda worrying, since we’re not looking to relive the events of the past, especially when RevRad was SUCH a positive experience all around.

If things are bad, there’s nothing any of us can do, obviously, and I don’t think anyone is trying to. I think there are some of us who are just mentally preparing for this to be a less enjoyable era if any of these hunches happen to be correct. That’s all.

I don't know if it really deserves making it's own post, but they did a phone interview with my local station after this one, and I recorded it. Some funny bits. 🙂

Well, I've said before that I see where y'all are coming from, because this era feels like trilogy 2.0, but we're only 2 days in. It's too early to jump to conclusions, plenty of time for a benefit of doubt.

And even if you're right, I feel like as there's nothing to do about it, the only way to approach this is to have as much fun as possible. Even if something bad is going on in his life, he's still a person doing his job in relation to us, so let's just have fun with the songs we're getting and at shows instead of scrutinizing him. I feel like that's kind of disrespectful. He recorded an album and plays his music live. So far nothing indicates that his performance is impaired. He doesn't deserve to be scrutinized like this. We're watching because we're enjoying his show, not because we're waiting for him to break down, jesus christ.

One thing I notice in those interviews is that the boys seem somehow... distracted or indifferent about the whole thing. I don't know if it's just me being over-sensitive, but I don't feel the same joyful excitement for the new era that I felt during RevRad from start to finish. Maybe there is something going on behind the scenes with Warner or whoever and the boys are still trying to be professional and do the whole promo thing because they have to. If this is the case - pure speculation of course - it must be a really big burden for them, which would explain the negative vibe. I can't shake off the feeling that this era already feels so heavy compared to the lighthearted RevRad times. Maybe it is intentional, but if it is, I really don't see the point.

In relation to the whole ‘out of control’ quotes that are going around, i personally take that to mean that things are out of control for everyone in the world at the moment, there’s far too much going on to be at all cohesive or thoughtful or deep about it, so if that’s the way things are then we may as well have fun and dance 🤷🏻‍♀️ I mean if we can’t make sense of it neither can billie as a songwriter and he shouldn’t feel like he HAS to or have that burden of being a spokesman.

Maybe they don't actually want to go on tour with Weezer and Fall out Boy :P

Did you see the interview where they were asked their favorite weezer and FOB songs? 😂

Yeah! I kind of don't buy the whole oh we decided to do this ourselves thing. I really think their managers pushed the idea on them. I'm probably wrong though.

That was amazing! 100 times better than the Woody interview. “Liquid concussion” 😂 It’s cool to joke about it, just be honest. And oh god all that stuff about them getting in touch with their feelings 😂 Thanks for sharing this

That was great! Thanks for recording it. Gave me vibes from that Wrigley one they did in 2017.

I think they really want to do stadiums again, but management probably said, you'll never sell them out yourselves, so how about this...

No problem! I was nervous, because beforehand, the host said people in the building told him he shouldn't talk about 2012, so he said he was "definitely going to." But the way he brought it up, I actually liked. As unfortunate as the situation was, I always loved that Mike started smashing his bass in solidarity.

It was brought up in a respectful way, I feel.

By agreeing to do this festival again, they know it's going to be brought up. They can choose to answer or deflect.

I feel like maybe they were interested in a package tour, but I still think they would've picked other bands. Again, I could be wrong, but that's how this whole tour feels to me.

Yea. I'm still excited about it. I'm shooting for Wrigley tickets. It's been so long since i've been to Wrigley field and Chicago, so this is just a great excuse to take a semi-non family vacation (my sister will be joining me).

I feel people are getting way too carried away with the speculation on Billie's private life. Yeah, I get that as a fan you want to see your idol happy, but really it's nothing to do with us. And who's to say he's not anyway?

He has a very large circle of family and friends who are his support network. It's not our job as fans to get worried about him, you can't get worried like that about someone you don't know personally. It's out of your control.

Besides, yes I get the vibe something isn't quite the same so far in interviews perhaps, but this could be down to a whole host of reasons. These people are human beings like us, they have all sorts of things going on in their lives. The last thing they will need is their fans scrutinising them in every way.

Just enjoy the music they put out. We are lucky to have a band here who really almost in their 50s and still going strong.

So the boys are on now and what is playing live is different than the video posted. Hopefully the podcast will be this extended version.

Awesome, they are amazing when on the other side there’s someone who knows how to do fun interviews. Best interview yet.
