localinsomniac
That Rolling Stone article says the big stadium tour will be preceded by solo dates. Is that new information? I haven't seen it anywhere.

It's weird though. Not enough hyperbole for this to be obvious trolling, but I doubt they're 100% serious. The interviews have an air of insincerity like trilogy interviews. Not insincerity exactly more like you can sense the underlying trouble behind this music. With the trilogy it was substance abuse, with this record it’s anxiety and ADHD. Both are cries for help but in a different way and I think with the state of the world this cry for help is much more relatable. We’re not standing back watching him fall to pieces, we’re feeling the same things he is.

And not liking long songs? I mean - it's not only that they made quite a few long songs themselves, but so many artsits they adore are famous for their long songs (Queen, The Who etc.). It just... it doesn't feel right, the whole thing. It doesn't feel honest. I'm not buying it. It's like they're playing a role or something. Yeah maybe it's just me being whiny, but that's just it. If this is the direction they want to go, okay, do it. I just really hope they're okay, cause I'm not sure. I honestly think you're holding them to a godlike pedestal, I'm not making excuses for them but they can make an album however long they want etc. It's not that he hates every long song he's written, sometimes there's just no need y'know? Sounds like we're getting Dos 2.0 tbh and I'm perfectly okay with that.

I don't know...I see the similarity in how both are yolo party albums and they're doing the same "out of control" talk and it just seems sort of out of place. Feeling a sense of underlying issues is a good way to decribe it.

We’re talking about anxiety. His mental health issues are well established. He even lists it in his description he posted about the single. It’s the underlying factor behind these songs. He could be happy but still struggling with personal shit and he’s always written about those things. This is not new.

People say that Dookie was "relatable" because it spoke about issues they dealt/deal with, i.e. anxiety. If this is a way for him to deal with these issues in a healthy manor, I can see others being able to relate to it, as well.

I‘m not talking about the things he’s dealing with in the songs, they have always been about his personal issues and I hope they always will be! I‘m only talking about this strange „fuck it all“-attitude in interviews and his weird letter that seems to come out of nowhere. Although I’m trying not to read too much into it, it doesn’t feel right.
Ross_19
The Billboard article is a good read as well. I'm halfway through at the moment. Interesting that the idea for this tour started a year ago, according to Billie. He also said this is the most excited he's been in a long time, but I suppose he says that in interviews for every era. Also it says they did this interview on August 25th, was that when we thought they were in Miami potentially doing something with the Stones? Many a times over the past few years I’ve wanted to throw up my hands over everything society has thrown at us and say fuck it, we’re all gonna die let’s just try and focus on living. It’s a coping mechanism. And his notes to the song are very ADHD and anxious scattered thoughts.

The weird post was very much like what Rev used to do, so it's not completely new, but I didn't expect him to bring it back. However, I regret that I took the trilogy seriously and was critical about it instead of enjoying it for what it was worth, this time I'm going with it. Ross_19
Armstrong: It’s very high energy -- 10 songs in 26 minutes. We wanted to create a dance groove with space between the drums and vocals [inspired by] the way Kendrick Lamar does things or old-school Motown music, where it’s leading with the rhythm. I realized I hate long songs, anything over two-and-a-half minutes. I’ve had a short attention span my whole life, even though I’ve written shit like fucking “Jesus of Suburbia” [a nine-minute epic from American Idiot]. Billie in the Billboard interview. SumDay
This new record could be the sober version of the Trilogy. Pacejunkie punk has stated his views regarding this idea and I fully agree. It's like the Trilogy, chaos and cynical fun because everything is falling apart. Of course this is nothing new, hence the nod to AI on the cover. But this time, it's like they're over this 'Hey, this is Bullshit and I will explain it to you, you idiot'-AI Style and 'developed' to the 'Hey, this is Bullshit, I'm fucking losing my shit, so let's make the best out of this mess'-FOAM Style. In a way – like pacejunkie punk said – it's a back-to-the-anxious-roots type of style.
