Tre looks like he’s had a stroke in all of those photos...his left eye is droopy. Hopefully nothing bad has happened there...

"Of course we're going to fuck up with the fans over it!" - Billie Joe

"'We're always down for mischief and we want to fuck with people... to the point of it being abusive', he (Billie) teases as Mike and Tré snicker beside him".

I think they just LOVED all the antecipation and rumors the fans were discussing 😁

On another note, I'm really curious to hear the song they've sampled from Joan Jett. I mean, I always want Green Day to be original but I love "Do You Wanna Touch Me" and they could be really creative with it.

I wonder if the short song nonsense was a nod to the pressure from Warner for short tracks that get the most streams? I know there’s more revenue in shorter song today. What if they initially did an album of their usual longer songs and Warner said no, we need short ones, nothing over three minutes to make money off this, so they went back and did a 26 minute album of ten short songs to order.

It just seems that way with Billie going on about “This song’s too short” and “I hate long songs” like he’s mocking the record business.

The thing that bothers me most about this band – and I LOVE this band – is that every time they come out with a new album, they feel the need to somehow diss the album that came before it. They seemingly can’t just accept that they were in a particular headspace during the time they made the last album and created exactly what they wanted in that moment. They need to be like “oh we realized we don’t like long songs.” What? Huh? Why not just say “we didn’t want to write any long songs on this album” instead?

Agree with what others have said about the interview. I think it comes across as pretty insincere and immature (not that Billie is known for being especially serious). Reminds me of their interviews in the lead up to the Trilogy albums.

Yeah this is a bit strange. If they suddenly hate long songs, why did they play JOS last night? Unless they did a less than 3 minute condensed version of it. 😅

I literally scoffed at “probably the best first single Green Day ever wrote.” What? If he’s being honest here, I’m at a loss for words. 🤔

That got me really curious and excited, they always loved to capture the music of artists they love in their songs, they did it more and less openly. I think warning, tales of another broken home and still breathing are great examples, but it’s gonna be awesome to see them doing it that clearly, with a declared sampling :)   But talking about divisive records, some people are gonna hate for sure tho :P

This is actually interesting, I’m craving for more interviews, especially in the medium/long term, to see how this thing evolves.

He did also say in 2012 that he thought 99 revolutions was the best song he's ever written 🤔

Opposed to him saying what? "This is a decent single but not one of our best." Sounds like bad marketing and lack of confidence. Musicians always think their latest stuff is their best.

He said that about Revolution Radio (the song) too

And do you mean they suckered me into mail ordering this issue and now I find out it’s only part one?! 😢

Yeah I think that’s really part of Billie’s character, but I think there’s some sincere excitement at the ground of it. He actually loves his songs, and always tries hard to transmit his passion about them.

But for sure it takes them a while to process the preceding era. When the Trilogy came out, 21CB breakdown was completely neglected from interviews, as far as I remember, and it took them 36 songs and everything that followed to acknowledge it and use part of its influence in RevRad. But at the same time it took them RevRad, and 7 years, to acknowledge the role of the Trilogy in their career, which was completely erased in the RevRad era. Now we have Billie playing Trilogy songs during Longshot shows, and this song that definitely has part of the energy Billie wanted to put in those records (together with something new, and a lot of things coming from various side projects).

Now it’s RevRad’s turn. RIP revrad. At least they are playing Bang Bang live, which is still a very kicks ass song.

Mission accomplished, you magnificent bastard.

Thanks for the scans!

Ah so you think this song is within their comfort zone and that it is fast hard punk😂

Ah so you didn't read the interview.

Every artist thinks and says that their new material is the best stuff they've written, that doesn't mean you have to agree with them. I'm really excited to hear the rest of the songs after listening to FOAM yesterday, its super catchy and fresh sounding in a way that nothing on RevRad was. People complained about that album being too safe, and now the band goes dangerous and people are afraid. I say bring it on.

Okay after reading this article I get where they’re coming from a lot more.  With the news and chaos in this country and speed of social media, many of us are feeling very ADHD and anxious. Short songs about all of this reflects that. The stickered, scrawled mess of an album cover reflects that. The lyrics and song titles clearly reflect that. This isn’t a scam being perpetrated on the fans, this is a statement.

I haven't read the interview yet, but the whole this is the best song blah blah, I just roll my eyes. It's something that a lot of artists do because they're trying to get you excited for the new stuff. It really doesn't bother me that Billie said. It's just a comment I would ignore because I've heard it so many times before. It's the same thing with not accepting the album that came before it. That's something else a lot of artists do and I kind of get it. They feel the new stuff is exciting and fresh and that's what they want to focus on.

I did, he mentions or refer to something like 10 genres, including punk. That sounds nothing like a traditional hard punk songs album to me. He says that it’s gonna be hard sounding, but he says nothing about a record made of hard punk songs. And FOAMF is clearly not a classic hard punk song. I think you should read the interview again :)

On the rolling stone article they also name a song called meet me on the roof

Do you have a link to the article?

He singles out new tracks “Meet Me on the Roof” and “Junkies on a High” as “Green Day firing on all cylinders.”

The RS interview is very interesting as well. I love these bits:

Quote

Father of All . . . which has the band experimenting with danceable grooves, wiry riffs, and sounds that can range from New Wave to vintage R&B. “Billie was pushing himself to get to a newer place,” says bassist Mike Dirnt. “We had to chase that down. Which is par for the course, because nobody digs deeper than Billie.”

Dirnt says some songs stay true to their bedrock punk sound, too: He singles out new tracks “Meet Me on the Roof” and “Junkies on a High” as “Green Day firing on all cylinders.”

I'm really looking forward to hear how this actually sounds like :)

I'm excited about the new wave and rnb (assuming it's the Motown influence) stuff.

It's weird though. Not enough hyperbole for this to be obvious trolling, but I doubt they're 100% serious. The interviews have an air of insincerity like trilogy interviews.
