chichi
This is really interesting and plausible. The band seems so not interested in talking about the album, the KROQ guys had to coax the release date out of Billie and he acted like he barely remembered it. The album art is so over the top bad, and re-using the american idiot arm is hilarious. Also I don't think Billie even mentioned the album release date in the interview with Zane Lowe. These guys are so looking forward to being free from Warner. Now with all that being said, I actually like Father of All Motherfuckers. It's like a really catchy overproduced FBHT song. Otis Big
Idk if this has been brought up yet, but I’ve been thinking it all day. dr.rober doback is the dad from the step brother. JardyOfSuburbia
The only other album we should get next year is the Network's sequel album to Money Money 2020.
michael1989
I’m going to take a more moderate view and say this isn’t a hoax (hear me out). The most common criticism of Rev Rad was that it was too familiar for GD. I think they’ve decided to release something more experimental but as a very low key release and a short album. To coincide they are doing the tour with FOB and Weezer. End of 2020 they’ll release another album, more in the GD style we know and then do a proper tour on their own. Mary711
If this whole thing turns out to be true it would be a brilliant move to promote the following new songs. I'm very excited to see what happens next.
Ross_19
Haven't read more than the opening post so sorry if this has been said but.... great theory and I think there is a lot we don't know about... but Billie didn't say they'll release a new album next year. They were talking about how they cut it down from 17 to 10 and he said rather jokingly something like "maybe we'll just put out another record next year!" I think we will get more music next year aside from FOAMF, wether its another album I@m not sure. Interesting stuff

They're done with it, they can do what they want. There is another album and it will be released before the tour. FOAMF will be promoted until it comes out and it will die a slow death. None of the songs on it sound like the green day we know and love. It's one MASSIVE troll. This topic is dead on. I love it when people say they have sources or inside info. Just supposed to take your word for it haha. The guy who "leaked" the "oozingly dangerous" lyrics claimed they had sources too.

True, but do you seriously think a songwriter of Billie's quality would have written the line "his world can get oozingly dangerous"? It makes literally no sense. purplebenny
Most sense is that 'Opus' was simply the original title God's favourite band. Anything else is leaning into conspiracy theory That's all that's happening. GD have always said 'oh we over wrote/have lots of other songs' FOAMF is the album for this cycle, BJA's comments yesterday seem more off the cuff then truthful. Embrace the unicorn! Rob
This whole thing seems to be the most bizarre thing they’ve ever done in their career. Honestly I think their relationship with Warner could’ve easily soured over the last few years. With the flop of the trilogy and revrad not doing much better; I think Warner is ready to let go and not as supportive anymore. I think they feel Green Day is no longer the commercially viable golden geese they were from 2004-2006 and don’t realistically see a comeback, so they “back burnered” them after 2012 or so. It feels like both parties are (weirdly) mutual in wanting to part ways. The way Billie went out of his way to announce this as the last Warner album and that there will *probably* be another new album coming out next year seems suspect as well and imo, adds credence to the theory. And then the obnoxious cover art for FOAMF, etc. Either way, it’s definitely the oddest vibe I’ve ever felt going into a era.

Released the same year as Revrad at that. California and Bored to Death both went gold in the states and they were pretty weak efforts to boot. Green Day hasn’t had an RIAA certification in over a decade now. I can at least see why Warner’s not crying the blues about their departure. Regardless of that, the gleeful tone in Billie’s voice about parting ways with Warner, the mocking album art and the divisive (to say the least) single that’s apparently indicative of how the album will sound, and Warner just letting THIS be the way Green Day bows out? idk it just feels like some shit down between the two over the last few years... He was such a good guy and a friend and he really spoke about them very highly everytime and helped Billie in tough times.

Thatsername
So, after processing this whole thing for a while and still struggling with a bad feeling in my stomach regarding this new era, I sat down and collected some points (that were all already mentioned somewhere) to clean up the mess that once was my mind, trying to make a sense of the things we got so far. I know this is all just speculation and theory and we got no proof, but: Rumour: Green Day went back to the studio to add some songs later in the recording process. Theory: They didn’t go back to add songs. They went back to record a whole new album: FOAMF, and maybe saved the other already recorded songs for what we think could be “Magnum Opus”. The fact that the album is only 26 minutes long could be a sign that they just did what was necessary, but not more. Fact: dr.robertdoback posted the last “leak” minutes after Billie posted other stuff on his Longshot and BJA accounts. Theory: Billie could have leaked the video himself. Fact: Green Day goes on the Hella Mega tour, but not a “Father of All…” tour promoting the new album. That seems strange. And they talk more about the tour than the new record. Theory: They are only fulfilling the requirements of their contract, but not more. Fact: Billie says in interviews that they will probably release more music before the tour starts, and even if he was kidding this seems odd when you’ve only just released a new album. Theory: They release FOAMF in February to fulfill their contract and will maybe release something else shortly after that. Fact: The album cover reads “Father of all Mockers” in the censored version with the unicorn. Theory: Maybe the guys are trying to tell us that they’re just mocking us. The weird AI-parody on the cover that makes absolutely no sense supports this theory. Separately, all those points could be a weird coincidence and nothing else, yes. But combined, they paint a pretty clear picture for me. I'm a believer.
