Maybe i'm not reading enough posts, but can we take a moment to talk about the lyrics? I just keep thinking Billie is shit talking Warner. Maybe it's in my head because of the rumors going around but that's all i'm reading into.

It’s so vague it could be about anything. I’d like to hear him talk about what it means.

And also talk about reusing the AI artwork. I'm not a big David Bowie fan so I was unaware he did something similar back in 2013, but at least his looks...decent?

Does it though? He just put a text box over his face and crossed out the old album title.

I like the simplicity. I don't know as it stands right now i'm just shocked really. I'm a designer and seeing bands come up with their new concepts for their albums is thrilling to me and this just hits flat currently. I'll have to digest everything and give it time.

Starting to come around on the song itself. It’s pretty catchy after a couple listens. It’s not the rock opera I was having fantasies about, but it’s different. This seems like it would pass the car test.

Kinda interested to see how it plays out live.

I think once I got over the shock of "DIFFERENT EEEEK" I do really like the song. It's fun and cool and sounds good. My only complaint would be the mixing. Why do Weezer's songs sound so balanced and clear and GD's recent stuff so jumbled (i.e. vocals hard to hear over instrumental). I miss Nimrod or even AI level production.

This is how I feel about their recent stuff too. Once I get used to it, I tend to really like it. Weezer's stuff always sounds great where as there's always a little too much production on Billie's voice.

Blaring it in my car is what sold me on this song. :)

Overall, still not digging the use of AI on the artwork, but the shock is wearing off. Wish the album was longer, but oh well.

I’ve reached the same conclusion. I can’t wait to see the video for this.

man, the way he says 'we're off our contract with warners' (@8:11 in the kroq video) just DRIPS with 'fuck you', it doesnt sound amicable at all. it leads me to wonder exactly what has transpired out of the public's sight.

I don't think "Warner" would be important enough to be the subject or even an inspiration in itself for the song that's the main title of the album. I think it's just like Billie said - a more general reflection on the world going on. Money is such a relatable subject for everyone. The link of money with wars - and so blood- nowadays too. The rawness when he says "count your money" like in a daring way and then admits he's paranoid and hysterical, to end up giving a sort of explanation/excuse: "the riot inside us", all of it with irony all along: "a message of love", "no one to trust", "looking for a miracle" is very Billie, at least the full grown Billie. Looking at things with the consternation it inspires him but pulling a great energy and will to feel alive out of it. The whole song breathes energy and rage literally while containing so much irony - it makes it fun, and energizing, it's like the trilogy but really on the bright side of it, even while being as salty as the saltiest of Longshot songs. It's like making a statement - we have what he have on a bed of love and blood - but turning it right away to the personal ground. Because everything that happens is the consequence of individual behaviors and ways of functioning. he first starts with "a riot inside of us" and then says that there's a "rivalry" in the riot inside of us. The personal distracts us from the general because the latter is just out of hand. Like the riot becomes an aim in itself which is even less funny. But the fun is still there in spite of all.

There are my present thoughts about the lyrics ^^

100000% agreed. He seemed so thrilled and the way he says it def speaks to something.

Been a long time since I posted on here! The tune's a banger, I'm really digging it! It's giving me Eagles of Death Metal vibes in places.

That artwork is really fucking awful though. It dead ass looks like Billie did a gravity bong and knocked it up in MS paint in 10 minutes 😂😂

Another AI/FOAM connection:

American Idiot:

"And can you hear the sound of hysteria? / And sing along to the age of paranoia!"

Father of All Motherfuckers:

"I got paranoia, baby / And it's so hysterical"

@DookieLukie Wow, that lyric connection to AI is really intriguing. I’m really curious why they chose to use AI artwork on the cover, and this is an interesting link.

The building bass/guitar noise at 0:55-0:58 is so sick.

Freddie Mercury wrote a song called "Death on Two Legs" way back in the day. It was a massive fuck you to Queen's old manager, going so far as telling him to commit suicide. This has that vibe, except not nearly as brutal and on a much lower, pop-rock infested tier of music.

I’m just hoping this means they’ll release more Pro-Shot stuff now.

This song fits the announcement of the tour. I was totally ignorant of the contract stuff. This makes sense then.

First the email though: Ewwww. It's macho and weird and I hate it.

It sounds like Billie's been listening to Beach Slang w/r/t the vocal effects. I don't like them much, but I'm telling myself it will sound good live b/c tbh it probably will. I do like that he's singing high straight away. And I love how the vocals drop for the chorus. Tré's drum beat is great and Mike's bass tone sounds really good here. Lyrics are solid. Repeated ideas of riots, but I feel like this is executed pretty well. It's sort of like "Kill Your Friends" with the jumping on grenades and judgement day, in that way. If he could do something different lyrically moving forward though, I'd be happier.

I agree with someone from page 4 that, as they've incorporated the garage feel into their sound, not everything they've released under the Green Day name has been quite the quality of the first 20 years of the band.
I guess if it's a throwaway thing to fulfill a contract, whatever, but I hope they're not running out of ideas.

I really like this a lot. It’s exciting. On first listen I thought it was terrible. But it was because I missed the point. Now I love this song a lot. It’s turning Green Day around into a new exciting direction and in turn turning new rock into a new and exciting and fresh direction. This plan of the new sound and the tour and the epicness is brilliant.
