My mom was watching GD on iHeart last night and she couldn't get over how good Billie looks and sounds. Also, she says she's digging the new song!

Yeah with this audio quality Billie sounds even more glorious, it’s such a great performance. This song is spectacular live!

My humble opinion

i dig the pre-chorus and the chorus, they are very catchy but like many others i'm not convinced with the high pitch vocals during the verse. It's like...i don't like the beginning but when the "Huh uh Come on honey" and the "Paranoia Baby" parts start the song becomes kind of cool.

It's like a bad and good acid trip and sometimes i enjoy this type of songs, it reminds me of Dos and The FHT stuff.

It's a weak single but...sometimes i just want to get high, party, dance and....break everything... y'know

I kind of agree with you.
If the verse was with the same voice filter of the Chorus I think it would have been perfect.

exactly, in my opinion the song is way better live.

Can't wait to see them next year

Don't think this was ever posted. Short piece from the New York Times "The Playlist: Green Day’s Time Warp, and 12 More New Songs":

Green Day freshens up its punk-pop with 21st-century mutations on “Father of All ...” CreditTimothy Norris/Getty Images for Live Nation

Green Day, ‘Father of All …’

Don’t call it a comeback, but Green Day borrows the look of Elvis Presley’s 1969 TV comeback special for the video clip of “Father of All …,” which transmogrifies the band’s old punk-pop into 21st-century mutations: processed vocals and artificial-seeming handclaps over vintage Beatles-tinged chord progressions. The song is a frantic, fractured response to America’s fact-challenged moment — “I’m obsessed with the poison and us/What a mess because there’s no one to trust” — trying to figure out what communicates right now. Are there actual people behind a screen dancing, or it that a video?

For some people, that may be a big deal.

"Green Day used to be authentic, but when I heard they used a projection of dancers, they lost me."

On the Hella Mega Tour, members of Fall Out Boy and/or Weezer could be in there dancing their hearts out secretly.   Then suddenly one dancer starts doing something different than the rest.

While the music builds anticipation, River Cuomo jumps out and he leads Green Day alongside Billie on "Worry Rock" and then Billie decided to do something REALLY weird and Green Day leads "The Greatest Man that Ever Lived",  dedicating it to Pete Wentz!

A replacement dancer goes into the red box.

Later on, Patrick Stump comes out and they do "She's a Rebel".

Billie's got me super curious about what could happen at the Chicago show!  I hope that the Hella Mega Tour is filled with surprises and not just the bands playing the same songs every night.   They should all have the TIME OF THEIR LIVES with this one, it's a special show!

Think of the possibilities!

Billie and Rivers doing some acoustic songs!

All the lead singers riding around on unicorns while singing, letting someone from another band fill in on guitar where applicable!  Rivers would fall off his unicorn because ya know, he's awkward like that.

Billie would ride his into the crowd.

Sorry guys.  I just had a cup of coffee (and you're still not here!)

I was thinking about how my local rock station is called "new rock 93.3 the planet", yet they only play stuff from the 90s and early 00s.  I went to their site, looking at the repeat plays of Rage Against the Machine, Bush and Pearl Jam when all of a sudden....

"Father of All..." is on their playlist!    NICE!   It looks like it's the only 2019 song in rotation which is funny,   The next newest thing is "Painkiller" by Three Days Grace, which is from 2014!

(waaaay down on their list was Korn's new single, but yeah.  2 songs from this year on a "new rock station" is pretty bad.)

Too Dumb to Die and Bouncing Off the Wall are amazing and fun songs. But they sound kinda FBHT-ish, Trilogy-ish, Longshot-ish because they’re Green Day at they best and most fun! But notice how they weren’t played on the RevRad tour? And neither were Trilogy songs? RevRad was the saddest, boringest tour ever. I can’t believe they were saying it was great/favourite/fun tour. I feel like that was a farce. That tour felt heartbreaking to watch.  Like they were all playing parts in a shitty play they wish they never wrote. So mechanical and sad. The fans love the band so much though. I love that. I love the band and fans too.

I hope Green Day is fun and excited again. I hope this new record brings them back from that boring-looking-giving-up-on-life tour.

Argue what you want on that but it was boring. The set lists were constantly the same. Basically only the hits. And the funnest songs on RevRad were never played live. It was sad.

I think we are in for a real treat with this new album and tour. Can’t wait. I hope they know it’s ok to have fun again.

Did you go to a show on the Rev Rad tour??? The band were so full of happiness on stage. Their setlists are always "the same" on every tour going back to Dookie, that's just how they've always done their shows. When I saw them last time they were incredible to watch, full of energy and passion. Noticeably more happy/joyful/contented than previously, especially Billie. After everything that happened with the trilogy they came back much happier, you could feel the love. I think you could see it in the facebook/insta live videos they did during the tour too. Setlist is only one small aspect.

Though I will loudly complain about Green Day's setlist, they were on fucking fire during the RevRad tour. They seemed so happy, energetic, and just enjoying themselves on stage. And it was so good to hear these songs, even though I've already heard them the first time I saw them. They were just amazing to watch on stage. Still, one of the best shows I've ever been to.

Rev Rad tour was the first time I've seen them live so I can't compare, but even though I would appreciate more variety to the setlists, I enjoyed it immensely and it definitely didn't seem that they weren't into it. There was so much positive energy.

Like, all Green Day shows I've been to have been super fun and the band have been great. But when I compare them the Rev Rad show had a certain level of joyfulness that you could feel particularly strongly from the band. Sharing love and gratitude with the crowd. I'm totally up for a more wild party vibe Green Day show (a la FBHT or the trilogy) too but that's not the only good type of Green Day show/album.

Honestly, I'm usually quite cynical and I don't like when someone makes the "peace and love" attitude a central point. I'm like shut up you hippie, but the happiness of the revrad shows felt so genuine and I loved it. It was so fucking wholesome and made my cold heart melt. The atmomsphere totally made up for the predictable show and the setlist looked worse on paper than when you were there and didn't have time to think about it too much. Billie got new teeth and was smiling a lot so the 10 minutes of KFAD every show are forgiven :P

Digging this song more every day. Love the small changes to their sound. Loving the vibe of the music and lyrics. Bang Bang may be a better overall song, but this song is so insanely catchy.

The Rev Rad shows were like a legacy act tour except with new music. I was very surprised to show up to the show in Toronto and I was literally 1 of a small handful of people not in Rev Rad gear. The amphitheater was filled with Rev Rad shirts. Also, this was the most mixed show from an age perspective I've ever seen.

I was sitting beside a family that traveled from NY for vacation to see the show. A man in front of me was old enough to be my dad and he was super excited as it was his first GD show. My younger cousin who was 15 at the time was there. It was a different dynamic for her at 15 at her first GD show than the one I experienced at 16 at my first GD show.

I like the new direction and I like the fact that it's a new direction. After 21cb the band took a step back. The trilogy seemed like it was a band that was taking a risk but I feel that many of the songs were safe plays. We've all mentioned Rev Rad being a better safe play.

I would like to see them follow this album up with a new concept record. I get why they couldn't do it after 21cb and I agree it was best not to. Enough time has passed and I would love to see how they expand on that version of Green Day.

Tbh I've found it was like that every time I've seen them in a big venue (going back to 2009), very wide age range from kids to older people and everything in between and tons of people in GD gear. I guess although they've always had quite broad appeal in earlier times it would've been more heavily teenagers/young adults. But I think they've had "legacy act" status for a while.

I don't think it'll be that different at the new shows either. This song (and the album I guess) has that rock n roll party vibe but they're still going to do a big venue-type show for a big venue.

I hope they keep those big projection screens they’ve been using as a backdrop instead of the cheap hanging fabric ones. They need a more spectacular stage, especially for this tour.

When I saw them here in 2009 the only older people that were there were escorting their kids. I'm not saying they didn't enjoy the show but they weren't there out of their own accord. The last show I actually ran into people who were over 50 and were there on their own accord without kids. A lot of them mentioned they saw they got into the rock n roll hall of fame and that put Green Day's concert on their bucket list.

You did mention the big venue though and that plays a part in it. In N.A GD typically plays hockey arenas and amphitheaters. In Toronto we have one of the highest capacity hockey arenas. During concerts it holds roughly 19,800. In your "soccer" or "football" or as I refer to calcio stadiums the capacity is much higher hence it's much easier for them to get tickets. The San Siro has like 80,000 seats or something like that.

The first GD show I went to had 19,000 people. Most of which were younger people and the tickets were sold out in about 5 mins the day they went on sale. We don't waste time when it comes to buying out the tickets XD Hell, I think I have the emotional maturity of a 3 year old when buying GD tickets. This turn will be Green Day's biggest show in Toronto to date. I'm looking forward to seeing the history but like 50,000 people is more than double than what I'm used to.

Totally agree with this. I loved the 21CB tour also because of that kickass scenography they had back then.

Might also be a UK thing since going to see bands live is popular among a wide age range here. Seeing them in arenas (around 12,000) and at Wembley Stadium (80,000 or whatever it was) there's always been plenty of older people and kids as well as just teens and young adults at shows I've been to. Only time there was less was at shows in smaller venues that were announced last minute (3000/5000/300). Even then I was either with or met middle age plus people at each of those shows though. Definitely an "all ages" band.

Having seen them at Wembley before I'm looking forward to seeing them in a big stadium again. It has its pros and cons (like, I won't expect to be right near the front or have the best view ever) but the crowd being that big made for a really good atmosphere.

I would say this is in the states too. Both times I saw Green Day there was a wide age range for the crowd. I saw really young kids there and older people who didn't necessarily have kids, so it really doesn't seem that strange to me or limited to one particular tour/era.

I think the crowds for the Hella Mega Tour may be impacted by the presence of Weezer and FOB. If we are talking about age range, I would expect a much younger average age for these shows than regular GD shows, purely because of Fall Out Boy. I'm not sure about the demographic of Weezer fans but I imagine it is similar to that of Green Day, given they have a similar career length.

However when it comes to normal Green Day shows, I think the broad age range is something that is worldwide, for many reasons but mainly because they've been going for thirty years now, and that they are kick ass live. My dad was 57 when I took him to see them on the RevRad tour, and he's now addicted to GD, even though he only knows like six songs. The entertainment level is enough for some people

I can't lie - moshing with 12 year old FOB fans would be the only time when I'm not the one who's being bounced around by taller people. I almost wish I was going just because of that
