Now drop the long song he hates those too!

Seriously, I was surprised they played JOS at the Whiskey. If he really wants to mark a new era and make a statement, put together a killer set of songs less than 3:30 minutes.

RevRad isn't fun? Bouncing off the Walls and Too Dumb to Die are insanely fun songs!

I would say that it's a 50% fun album, but especially songs like Still Breathing, Outlaws and Ordinary World make it peak on the not necessarily bad but definitely not fun side of things. And I think (from these interviews at least) those are the kind of songs Billie wanted to avoid with this record.

He also said in another interview that it's one of his favourite songs to play live, walking contradiction :P

Same. This is why I think we're overinterpreting what he says. We're looking for a deep meaning in his repeated statements but what if he's just bullshitting his way through the interviews? It never seemed like something he enjoys doing, so it might be that he isn't thinking about it as deeply as we analyze it.

I do know that in one of the interviews when he said he didn’t like long songs it was in the context of being a listener. At the same time as a performer, he loves to play some long songs. So as a writer, he’s thinking from the point of view of the listener not his own perspective as a performer of the song if that makes sense. He’s writing songs he’d want to hear.

I think Billie always adopts a line he’s going to take at the start of any round of promo, or at least has for a long time now.  When you think about it, it makes perfect sense as he is fundamentally asked the same questions repeatedly each time and it’s bad enough people over analysing what you say when you are consistent, worse if you say different things.  Also, he clearly is more comfortable singing about his feelings than talking about them.  Look at how much talk there has been about him saying he hates long songs but I don’t read much into it. He’s promoting a very short album with short songs, it would be weird to say he loves long song, but I don’t have any 😂😂.  It’s almost a year until the tour starts, who knows what he’ll feel by then but given the line up, he’ll be conscious he’s got to keep momentum up for those who aren’t GD fans, I think it’ll be all hits really.

Yeah, in one of the recent interviews he said Jesus of Suburbia is his favorite to play live. I think it's that contradictory thing all artists have of, "I love this, but people will hate it and think I'm being indulgent, so I feel guilty and shouldn't do it" anxiety creeping in.

That would also explain why they rarely change their setlist

Or not really guilty so much as because he also considers himself a fan, he knows that these days anyway he won’t bother to listen to someone else’s nine minute song so he doesn’t want to ask that of his fans.

Billie obviously loved to play Still Breathing live (like every song they play live for the matter but this one had the feels, the joy, the gratefulness and all when played live). This is not a fun song nor a feel good song but mostly a difficult one (emotionally speaking), to hear like to sing, and I bet it's for that reason that it doesn't fit at all with the foam vibe, which is a more partying vibe like trilogy, FBHT and Longshot. I could interpret it as saying that it's easier for Billie to go back to that funner vibe for the upcoming tour. You don't need to get yourself upside down emotionally to write a song and perform it, like it must've been for SB. That song is a life saver ❤️

Trump, climate change, guns, nazis, depression, anxiety, sobriety fatigue... hell, take your pick.

I do agree though that a feel good song may be inspiring but isn’t fun. Most of RevRad was no fun (with the possible exception of Bang Bang and BOTW)

rather non-sobriety fatigue. You're way more tired when not sober, but Billie might also be kinda maso

outside elements (Trump, nazis, fucked up world) don't change someone's mental health.

and RevRad was fun. the title track was killer played live

That's what I'm fearing...that they'll replace a "bad" setlist with an even worse setlist. That's how I rationalize not doing multiple shows.

On the subject of Still Breathing, when I got to ask Billie what meant the "rain and roses" line exactly, and he said "it means I'm not in a grave, my head is not underground yet, it means that I'm still alive." You should've heard the way he said "I'm still alive." Between a kid saying "that toy is mine", shaky and determined at the same time, and someone stating a miracle, but calmly, as if he had fully integrated it.

Writing that, singing that meant some deal to him (there's a purpose to the song being that repetitive in the sentences: still breathing, still alive, my head's above the rain and roses... it all means the same exact thing). Whatever they're doing now, they may be taking an opposite direction the their previous work but they're taking their momentum on it, like emotional waves that go up and down all the time. I don't know if he thinks now is time to go more mainstream and stripped down rock and roll while not pushing too much contrarily to what they did in 2012, and he's probably right then since Foam does seem more mainstream than SB and RevRad as a whole, but I bet it's about it.

Have Trump use it as a campaign song.

To be honest when I’m hammered at the show that song will be awesome to rock out to though... but I get that it’s overly nothing special and from many albums ago

WOOOOO I JOINED THE 1,000 POST CLUB!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But back to KYE.... yeah its not great, its one of just a few GD songs I always skip when it comes on... the only thing that makes me enjoy it live is the band bringing a fan up on stage, but I would love it if they swapped KYE out for a different 21st CB song.... I can pray

So many good songs on breakdown and they keep...KYE. it's fun live, but there's better stuff on that album.

So true. Fuck that song, bring back East Jesus nowhere you motherfuckers.

I hope during this tour that they play stuff from the trilogy, play something other than KYE from 21st CB, and unlike Rev Rad I hope all of the songs off the new album get an outing during the tour.

We all know there is nothing Billie loves more than turning a 3 minute song into a 10 minute song by inserting 7 minutes of "hey ohhh's"  and the occasional "1,2...1,2,3,4" chant.

That's exactly what I mean. I wouldn't insist on 21CB because it's 5 minutes, but there's no excuse for not playing EJN. It's so much better than KYE and also upbeat and simple to sing along to. KYE is more known and has a super foolproof beat, but it's not that great overall.

And on top of that, it’s a more well known song, but I don’t really think it’s a fan or casual fan favorite. I don’t think there would be a lot of desperate people in the crowd wondering “oh my god where is KYE”. It’s one of those easily replaceable songs, I really think they should toss it in favor of American Idiot as a set opener, and use something else from 21CB. Geez, how great would it be to have back the static age, Freese was so freaking amazing playing that song live.
