Father Of All... (Song)

I feel a lot more positively about the song and the upcoming album after seeing the Jimmy Kimmel performance. That really blew me away. Also makes me hope the rest of the album's songs will be upbeat and fast-paced. Maybe this will end up being one of Butch's better / less awful records.

Everyone, please keep this thread on topic. No more talk of homophobia, Billie's sexuality, who's an asshole and who's not, etc. — discuss the song. Thanks.

@Asik has been given a suspension. If you see more problematic posts, flag them. Don't continue stoking the fire, please.

I've decided that while I'm not feeling the song, I don't hate it because I'm still pissed off that Fall Out Boy and Weezer are out selling it.

I honestly can't get into it, live or recorded. I'm really trying. I think I'd be fine with it if it wasn't for the unintelligible "falsetto." But it's extremely distracting.

It's weird because on Youtube

Weezer: 300K views
FOB: 400K views
Green Day: 950K views

Is iTunes relevant anymore? What about Spotify?

Also the YouTube video for FOAM isn’t even a video. Not even a lyric video. And it’s way ahead.

I would take that to mean that a larger percentage of the people that listened to Fall Out Boy and Weezer liked the song enough to buy it. There is a smaller percentage of people that listened to the GD song that liked it enough to buy it.

It is still a way to play a downloaded song. And right now we don't have alot of charts to go by. It may be different once Billboard comes out.

I did not see any of the songs on the Spotify chart

I wonder if it could be that a lot of people preordered the album from Green Days webstore, and received the song digitally that way.

We are talking about 468 vs 335 vs 298 downloads (in the us)... not really big numbers, iTunes is dead😅

wow that's something.....LOL

There's also so many different channels where you can get their music now so it's hard to try and compare it with other singles head to head.

I find it hard to believe that none of these 3 songs are on any Spotify charts. Are their charts behind?

Maybe they update them weekly? I have no idea how that works.

So.
The song is good!

Yes, it is. It is a very good song. And I like to listen to it. I am drunk now, and it sounds exceptionally better while drunk. Or driving in a car. I have not yet tested this song under the particular substances, with one of them Billie might have written this song. It should have been a good substance.

Just don't try these two song improvements at once

We should start a thread for it and go full erowid with exploring what substances do with green day music lol

The numbers may not be big, but take a look at the trend. I know you can't go just on one thing, but it is all we have so far. According to those numbers, Fall Out Boy is outselling by 60% and Weezer by 15%

I hope that trend does not translate to all the numbers.

Disclosure: I love statistics

Greendayerowid.com should be reserved.

And believe me, Green Day sounds out of this world.

Like in She in Chicago show.

EDIT: Like there was a time, when I listened to a full American Idiot. And I WAS Saint Jimmy. And I called my mother to say that I Iove her and that I am dying. And there was MY Whatsername. And there was a Homecoming. Billie surely reflected some very deep meaning through his lyrics to many people.

I love this song. Instrumentally, the verses remind me of "Fire" by Jimi Hendrix. It looks like they are pretty much repurposing their Foxboto Hot Tubs shtick for Green Day and I'm all for it. I'm totally digging the flamboyant energy. Green Day needed to do something to freshen up their sound and image. Good for them. Kids these days have no idea who the hell they are and I know for a fact because I work with kids for a living.

As an unapologetic fan since Dookie I'm fully embracing whatever direction they choose. I personally don't understand all the hate. That's just me though.

I think you can be right, they can indicate a trend, but I’m not sure if they’re representative of the music audience that currently influences the charts. Most people, across several generations, nowadays only uses streaming services, YouTube at the most. If you compare iTunes and billboard charts, they are not really matching.

I agree but we dont have any other numbers yet. We can draw more conclusions when more data is available
