Anybody else hears some Stop, Drop and Roll in the vocal melody of the verse?

The guitar riff in the verse is pretty much the exact same as stop drop and roll

The conclusion I’ve drawn after a couple of days of the song being out is that I don’t love it but at the same time I don’t hate it. The vocal filter really throws me off this song but the drumming , bass and guitar is straight fire 🔥

Why this guy keeps popping up on these threads? Is he a famous YouTuber/influencer or something like that? 😕

I don't really care for this guy's opinion. He's the posterboy of loving shitty, mid-2000s pop punk. I'm pretty sure he's a massive T Swift fan too, which really shows his music preferences. Idk what it is, but his reviews just give me a weird vibe. Maybe because I don't find him likeable.

I used to watch him and found him my number one go to place for album / song reviews but then he made a really fucking stupid video on his beyond artv channel and I dipped out because I was extremely angry with it 😂

I watched a couple of his videos because he talks about Green Day a lot and for some reason, I just got more annoyed with him the more I watched his stuff. Can't really explain it.

Same here. He has a cringey personality. Like the type of guy to brag about his IQ.

Still not a fan of the vocal effects but I can hear more Billie in it after repeated listens. Overall really like the song. Utterly surprised that they've gone in this direction, I thought the Longshot was to get the garage rock thing out of Billie's system but instead they've taken it and run with it! Like, we got a really "Green Day sounding" album with relatively deep and introspective lyrics and more classic rock sound with Rev Rad. It's cool to have something totally different that messes with people's expectations.

The song lacks a certain organization from a style or genre perspective that has led to the mixed reaction imo... but anyone who has criticized the song has mentioned from an actual technical playing perspective they sound really great. This has to do with the fact that the recording sounds rhythmic. Green Day has been captured on other records sounding somewhat stiff in their rhythm section. Good examples of this are moments on Nimrod, Warning, some moments on 21st century breakdown and Rev Rad as well as all of the trilogy.

If the other songs on the album are a bit more focused and organized and also capture a great rhythm in the recording like this one did I'm sure there will be a few memorable songs out of the lot. Unfortunately this one is too mixed. I do think it will capture solid airplay at first but it's just too odd for them to be in the regular rotation once it's no longer new or another single comes out.

Objectively and subjectively this is the worst Green Day lead single to date. The one before was Oh Love imo however, objectively it did it's job as it hit the Top 40 and helped successfully launch Uno. The debut for this one looks like it will be rocky.

Just sounds like he wants the same old thing. Green Day are all about getting out of your comfort zone and not caring about being cringy. That's the statement they're making with the album cover and presumably the album. Honestly if it gets under the skin of people who only want them to be a certain way it's so much the better.

This pretty much hits the nail on the head for me, though the vocal effects (or some people erroneously call them "filters" when it's just double-tracking and some light distortion) don't get on my nerves as much as they apparently do for everyone else.

Also, my apologies for letting loose on Fantano's smackdown of a review last night. I know he's technically not wrong in some aspects, I'm just sick of him continuously trashing the band regardless of whether or not he's right in certain areas. Like, dude, you clearly don't like them or they're just not living up to your high expectations - we get it, just leave them alone and move on.

Neither, my friend. I just know good songwriting when I hear it ;)

I think I would have loved the song more if the vocal effects were only on the verses and had the vocals more clean in the chorus.
It would have made the chorus jump out more powerful maybe, but also would have made it easier for me to want to re-listen the song.

I'm still curious how the song will sound in combination with the other 9 tracks. It could still be a great album.
But the song itself.. it's a difficult one for me to really get into.

This is my experience with the song too. The more you listen the more you hear Billie in there. The choruses especially, it's very easy to hear Billie.

That's not very inclusive or respectful of you to say as I'm sure inclusivity would be your usually tact.

Easy to have "good" songwriting when 23 people write your songs.

So glad we are getting a wild, fun album again. I really never liked the RevRad era, it felt a bit forced and by the numbers to me. Like someone ran a computer program of a Green Day album and pressed the result.
