So, the unfinished product is still Green Day's?

Imho, it is if they don't release it public during the time of the contract with the major AND if it's not a recording session paid by the major

So, just to clarify, they wouldn't be able to announce another album now, if they had already had recorded it for masters? Demos wouldn't count, I assume. When does the contract run out, would they be able to do master-recording before June? These are all wild and completely unrealistic hypothetical things, but I'm just testing what is actually possible lol

It could at least kill the conspiracy theory thread.

I'm curious about that too. As in, whether they are at this moment free and clear of their contract, or if it doesn't officially expire until release day.

As to the recording aspect, ownership of the masters would likely hinge on who paid for the studio time.

Lol, my copy of nimrod was already unplayable from being tossed around my car so much! I actually bought it the day it came out back in 1997, maybe I should have bought another copy to blend, oops! I had to snap it in half to even fit it in my blender!

Green Day owns their publishing Warner owns the master recordings

So if certain songs ever come out of the vault Warner gets some of the action

Vaults closed on Cigarettes and Valentines and any of the other songs that were left off the albums

I thought I couldn't laugh any harder and then you poured the milk...I'm crying

Green Day, if you're out there, please put this footage in your upcoming music video. It blends perfectly with the albums aestethic and art so far.

It's way better than what we've seen from gd so far

When does the contract actually run out, would they be able to do master-recording legally before June next year? It's a riddle, I think something like that happened to Avenged Sevenfold but It was a bit different 'cause the album (Greatest hits) was launched as an action of disturbance from Warner to their new album. It could happen but it could affect the launch of FOAM

It depends where and with who they were recorded. If they were mastered who paid

I don't know, We should see their contract in order to know it ahha

True don’t know the full contract of GD but knowing first hand how Warner works they  do not own Dookie on thru American Idiot maybe when they renewed the original contract after AI they changed things for 21st and onwards

My bad, I know about the topic but not the details. Btw contracts are complicated and full of traps

Father of all Motherfuckers coming out and usurping Magnum Opus as the actual album is the 2016 election all over again.

If Magnum Opus is Hillary, we'll have another phoned in, poser album.

😂 Sorry but I have to: Warner (or any other record label) doesn‘t „own“ any records. They just own the distribution and exploitation rights of the records, but the ownership rights of the music are non-transferable, these belong to the members of Green Day until they die.

Yeah they certainly are

Warner or any label for that matter in 1993 wasn’t letting any artist have ownership of masters so much so Prince went to war with Warner for ownership of the masters

when they renewed they did have a lot more power to have asked for ownership

It’ll be interesting to see what GD says about the label going on in more interviews

Yes the “music” is to GD since GD owns their publishing

Warner owns the master recordings

Anyone find it weird that they haven't mentioned Butch Walker very much? Like I'm wondering why he was chosen and such.

Bratwurst was also before, please enlighten me 😂

IIRC there was some leak and someone said it was fake as fuck and if it was real, they would blend their copy of Nimrod specifically for some reason,

Bratwurst came from people making jokey fake tracklistings i think?
