You bet their ass they've already been recording and possibly finished it (magnum opus of the inglorious kind please?!). You can't tell me they are going to write a whole new slew of songs, get into a studio, get their ideas flowing creatively and flesh out a whole freaking album, have it mixed, mastered, etc, etc, all while playing the Hella Mega tour next year/summer? MOOTIK boys.....fucking MOOTIK. They say a lot of things. Still waiting on those trilogy song remixes for example...
Signe
5 minutes ago, Pansyhunter said: The thing that I don't really like about this as a GD fan is how on the fence I am about getting tickets for a show. The new album being odd makes me already wary, and paying for a show that's two other bands besides GD that I have to drive 4-5 hours for and presumably pay at least 200 to get good seats....Seeing them for the first time in 2017, I was 100 percent sure I wanted to go, but now I'd feel like I'd be buying a ticket just to see GD again. Which could be worth it? Agh, this is so confusing. Part of it too is that when I bought tickets for 2017, I had heard the new album already and really enjoyed it (and obviously wanted to see them live.) But in this case fans have to buy the tickets before even getting to hear the full (short) album. Eh I feel the same way about getting tickets. I am not even sure I will bother with UK tickets at all... because, for what? This whole thing with 3-4 bands is just weird and the music is not even out.

I could see that the tour is really cool to people who love all three bands, but I personally don't care for Weezer or FOB that much and would feel annoyed having to spend money and drive all the way out to see them play, waiting for GD, and maybe not even liking the new material they play.

Yes. I have my eyes set on Berlin and Stockholm + Norway shows just because I want to see GD, but I dont want the whole FOB thing. I would just like to know what the hell they are thinking. They sold out HYDE PARK... They dont need 2-3 opening bands to steal playing time.

I mean of course it could happen, but it seems like this was planned for a bit ahead of time. Honestly all three bands are fairly popular, but in an interview too it kind of sounded partly like Billie's idea? I agree, GD sells out giant stadiums all the time, even back in the 2017 tour. I wish I knew more behind the scenes info.
PleasedToMeetMe
I definitely see this as Green Day fucking with Reprise. Their relationship must have soured after the trilogy. Plus, their relationship with Cavallo has seemed rocky for years.

I kind of feel like green day have been having issues with Reprise and Warner due to what happened since Cigarettes and Valentines.

At the Hall of Fame induction in 2015 Billie said they had a really good experience working with Warner and if that wasn’t true he didn’t have to say it. They had two Grammy winning albums back to back from 2004-2009 and were riding high. Warner had to be happy. I think the trouble might have started with RevRad. Breaking with Pat after many years was only the first sign of trouble.

I dont think the label was too happy with them going off and recording it on their own, Im sure they were more than ready to lay down some ground rules after the failure of the trilogy. Maybe they were being pressured to include the heart grenade on the cover so they just threw together what we see today lol. Green Day seems to want to distance themselves from Reprise, which is something they haven't done in the past. They always seemed to have a great relationship. Also, now that they're on Crush they really dont need a label, at least not a major one.

But either way where are you guys getting the idea that they dislike their label? What’d I miss?
PleasedToMeetMe
If they didn't dislike their label they wouldnt be leaving it. They've been on it since 1993 and seem pretty excited to cut ties, to be honest.

It doesn't feel like Green Day. Billie not liking long songs when literally every GD project since AI has had at least 1 song that's 6+ minutes. It would've made sense if he was like "I haven't felt like writing long songs right now" or something like that but "I hate long songs" is so out of character for him I wonder if this maybe ties in with the situation with Warner? Labels quite often try to influence the writing/recording process and after AI's success maybe they put the pressure on Green Day to write and record longer songs. PleasedToMeetMe
I have a theory that Magnum Opus thing is real and they plan on that being their first independent release. Maybe it's an epic rock opera but a single track along the lines of The Decline by NOFX. Either way, them being on Crush could be a good thing. Look at Weezer releasing 3 albums a year and FOB putting out albums all the time. I think Green Day wants that freedom, i don't think they have that kind of freedom with Reprise.
Popular Post TimmyChunks
I’m back here after a long, incredibly long, hiatus. There’s a lot to unpack here, the new sound and mix combined with a genius track yet again (how do they keep doing this), but the Reprise twist escalated quickly and in my mind makes this the most interesting release yet- never mind the massive tour on top of it. The album cover spells it all out in pretty simple terms. The 26 minute length is no coincidence. I could list about ten other big developments today but it’s fair to say there’s more to come. Welcome back boys, I should have known to expect something like this, yet I didn’t, and I should know better by now. 4
