I don't understand how that could be seen as racist.

I guess people attribute trap to black people creating it? Makes no sense it’s the dumbest shit I’ve seen in awhile

Ah by they way, now apparently there’s also Ariana Grande fans that are mad with Green Day because in an interview Billie said that Billie Eilish is better 😂😂😂😂 What a wave 😂😂😂

How much money will Tre Cool get from my 40+ dollars?

The next time I see him, I want to be able to say "hey, I chipped some money in for that...fadora."

I have serious issues understanding why people is offended. It’s not saying that Swedish Pop or trap is shit, but that this record is something different. It does so in a bold way, but it’s also a pretty obvious and ironic statement. I feel like people love to find stuff to complaint about sometimes, maybe the PR team had to take this into consideration, but it seems really like an overreaction based on absolutely nothing to me.

I don't know, the way I see it, it's pretty clearly a dig at those genres, in a tongue in cheek manner maybe, but in a way, I think the poster is trying to sell the album based on the idea that not having those characteristics make it inherently better. The poster was clearly looking to be provocative, so it doesn't surprise me people are responding back, cause it just reads as old rock artists shitting on popular music because they can't get in with the youth, which is sad, because Green Day themselves said that they were inspired by genres like hip-hop and R&B while making this record, and Billie doesn't seem to have a problem with trap judging from his collab with Tyla. And it's specially weird considering the fact that the Max Martin brand of pop the poster is most likely alluding to is not even trendy anymore, like most songs he produces nowadays don't even hit the top 10.

And maybe this opinion is kinda controversial, but I think his comment on Ariana was unnecessary, they're two artists doing completely different things with tons of critical acclaim, no need to compare, especially saying things like how Billie Eilish's music is real compared to Ariana when she released a whole album as a response of the process of grieve and emotional trauma she's been through the last few years, and that she was heavily involved in terms of writing and composing. Also, her stans are known to be super hardcore, so that's just a dangerous tree to bark to.

I don't understand how that could be seen as racist. It's kind of dad-rock cringey, though.

That poster they came out with is catching more fire and seems like such a bad PR move given how this album is being received. So many big name people who I follow who don’t post about Green Day are posting about it in a negative light and it’s just...yikes

Considering this and the blowback they got from the description of the Last of the American Girls book, they need to fire their PR person. At the same time, I really don't know why people are upset. It's a dumb joke. By Monday people will find something else to get angry at anyway.

I’m lost here. What’s going on?

So that one poster Green Day's PR put up saying something like "No Swedish Producers, No Trap Beats, Just Pure Rock N Roll" people said it's racist. And Ariana Grande's fans are mad about the comment Billie said in one of his interviews. It was something along the lines of she doesn't make real music like Billie Eilish.

There's nothing offensive about the poster, people calling it "racist" are ridiculous. Green Day have a huge fanbase and the tiny amount of people who would actually be up in arms over a slightly cringy poster that the band themselves wouldn't even have had anything to do with making don't matter.

couldn't be more proud of the mods right now

Yeah, I agree it’s not racist. I just wish I saw them on my social media for something positive (like the album release or one of their live performances) rather than this cringe poster. I just think their PR team needs to get it together a bit more.

Sucks saying this but while the poster isn't racist by any stretch of the imagination it is Cringey AF

Green Day will just need to ride out this backlash and people will quickly move onto some new to get mad about
