Agreed. Shame Green Day are now so dismissive of the effort.

The inspiration was there. Drugs can create great music. But he forgot about the "write high, edit sober" part. The mistake was in promotion, not in the music

Maybe because they like it?

So people can’t say they don’t like it because it annoys people that do like it?

No. People just don't hate it except a few.

The thing I hate on the album tho is in TTMAC. The word Crawl and his stupid laser effect.

It’s funny that people can endlessly praise the album though, right? Why can’t people express that they don’t like it as much?

I don't like it as much, I've said a few times I think it's pretty average by GD standards, but it's not bad by any means at all. Sorry you don't find anything you like about it.

The problem is all the side projects that they've created...IMHO.  I mean, most bands put all of their focus on one band, one album at a time.  He's knocking out multiple bands, multiple songs for different albums lol So when it comes to one side (Green Day), we're definitely going to hear rehashed themes since we all flock to whatever he releases.

I'd argue that the fact that he says the same things over and over, is a sign that his personal growth has halted. He should have new things to sing about. Evolve, you know

I think the reason why they aren't getting "enough attention" from FOAM is not because it's necessarily bad, it's just because in everyone else's normie mind they are just some "edgy" alternative act from 2005 that makes "edgy" music. I bet even if they released an album full of modern rap/trap tunes no random mainstream listener would bat an eye.

Also, FOAM has got some hella dark lyrics tbh. It hasn't got a pop appeal. Oh Yeah is really the only track that does imo. Not that there's anything wrong with radio hits, I'm just guessing the perception of the mainstream world I guess.

One thing that really surprised me about this album is that despite it's length, it still feels like a complete work.  Like an actual album rather than the bare minimum to finish the contract with warner.

I wonder how this album will sell given the extended pre-order period and the attachment to merch and ticket sales.

Also reminds of Outlaws.

Am I the only one who thinks Sugar Youth reminds them of Too Young To Die?

Probably not I'm sure someone else said that and I missed their post but still

I think Junkies on High could at least get great streaming numbers. And I'm sure Father of All and Oh Yeah will get big boosts. But it won't sell particularly well, at least in CD form

I'm an overanalyzer but reading through every track's lyrics gave me the idea that BJA may have been reading Howard Zinn's A People's History of the United States. There's a chapter in that book that talks about corporations, robber barons, and the rise of socialist strikers that uses the term something along the lines of "a life of blood and money" I'm pretty sure. Not to mention the parallels I saw in Graffitia. Of course I am probably overanalyzing this but it's something to think about, I guess.

Update: The quote from the Zinn book is "The lives, blood, and money of the American people were used to protect the interests of the American capitalists."

I wouldn't be surprised if BJA and the other guys in GD read the book. I got interested in reading it after NOFX name-dropped Zinn in my favorite song from them.

I Thought that I Was A Teenage Teenager sounds like Too Young To Die :D Same chord progressions and the riff after the chorus, so similar. Completely different tempo though. Sugar youth on the other hand is more similar on that spectrum so I definitely see where you're coming from.

Did anyone else notice that the part of Sugar Youth that starts with "I wanna drink all the poison in the water..." is the exact same melody as the verses in Oh Yeah?

Yup! I even thought that it could be some sort of an "reference" But prolly just Billie reusing stuff like he tends to do from time to time! :D

You know how FOAM is better than RevRad? You can listen to FOAM at one volume without having to turn the volume up and down every 10 secs like RevRad

that's all production though

songwriting is a different critique altogether
