Pansyhunter
Just kind wanted to put my two cents out there. Kind of surprised to see so many people thinking this record is amazing and better than some of their past bigger records. I listened to the whole thing and only the last 2 or 3 songs really stood out to me as interesting or sounding more like what I expected to hear from a Green Day record this far down their career. The rest of the songs are just way too short and poppy for me to really give a shit, lol. Meet me on the roof is just a worse version of like 8th Avenue serenade and as people have said stab you in the heart just sounds like fuck time. There's not enough content here that's engaging, creative, or new sounding to me. Of course these complaints come from having heard music and albums I consider to be the standard for the band and this mostly falls far below it, imo. I prefer anything off the trilogy to the majority of this record. On that note though I will say Graffita and Junkies on a High sound more like fuller and epic tracks with their lyrics, the production and the instruments. 4

I think the general consensus here is that Side B is at least good. I think the last 5 songs are the best 5 songs of the album Side A is weaker imo because it has the singles, and it has Teenage Teenager which I think is the worst track of the album and just a bad track overall. Stab You in the Heart isn't particularly creative or new but I like how it sounds so I don't really care and I don't think they're "stealing". There's just obvious influences I also think while the singles are weaker tracks on the album, they are more forgivable and better in the context of the rest of the album Also, I think the high points of this album are better than RevRad's high points although idk if I'll still think that months or years from now

I think what stands out for people is the pacing of the album. It’s easy to listen to because of how much it changes, so a certain sound doesn’t get stale. I like the record but get what you're saying 100%. I will say I like Meet Me On The Roof better than 8th Ave but yes similar lyrical content. This is kinda what happens when a band blows their load at the later end of their career with 37 songs. It's definitely something easier to get away with at the beginning of your career vs getting older and already working on limited topics. I did find the Stab You In The Heart thing to be a low point on the album too. I don't mind using a generic rhythm once as it's often a successful way to introduce a new direction. They should have maybe went full rockabilly or did a blues rock tune more similar to Social D but of course in the GD fashion. FRA doesn't stand out for me when hearing in full. Besides a few low moments I really like the new songs as they're fresh and the remainder that I haven't mentioned stand on their own in the GD catalog. I agree Graffitia is an epic and is a top 5 post 21cb track.

The singles do flow better when they're played back to back and in context of the album. Even though I don't really like the song "Oh Yeah" or "Fire Ready Aim" for example, they're both really catchy. Honestly though I kind of expected all of the songs to sound more like side A tracks with how it was marketed and how short and fast Billie was saying it was. I was pleasantly surprised in the last few tracks as I mentioned, and wished they had gone for more of that sound (but obviously it's hard to do in a short record.) Imo, I prefer the high's of RR over FOA. Songs like Forever now, Somewhere Now, Bang Bang and the title track all blow FOA out of the water. Somewhere and Forever now are more the "rock opera" type songs as well which are my favorites from Green Day.
