I'm gonna be pretty miffed if my first listen has to be a digital copy. Also, I'm not sure if Amazon does release day delivery anymore. Last three times I pre-ordered from there my albums were 2 to 3 days late. When I ordered RevRad from the Green Day store it took at least a week after the album came out for it to arrive. Guess it depends on where you live.

Thatsername
"At its best, Father sounds like a decent Queens of the Stone Age tribute band." Ouch. That does sound pretty harsh. So there will be hip-hop. I wonder which song it will be. I feel like I have to mentally prepare for this😂
legendary
Seems like the most plausible review. It could be big If better produced.
Beyza
I know a lot of people don’t really like it but I hope for more falsetto cause I think Billie handles it well and it makes the performances more interesting.

michael1989
Does the EW review really come as much of a surprise to anyone? I think we were all hopeful for better, but unfortunately what we've heard so far said otherwise.

GuitarPunk94
just listened to billy talents new song ("reckless paradise") .. it sounds fresh but it still sounds like BT (banger) the 3 new gd-songs sound "too far away" from the "GD-sound", nimrod was experimental too after dookie/insomniac, but you still had this "gd-sound", imo its unfortunately not completely the case with the foam songs

I do like the result of this so far, and I think as far from the classical "GD-sound" this may be, you can hear in it an evolution, or a different take if you prefer, of sounds that the band played with for years, as GD or with side projects. The garage inspired, heavy on clapping, bouncing sound is something that Billie played with for more than 10 years, the pop rock ballads/jams have been a constant in GD records since forever, they got closer to dance music, new wave and hip hop sounds before. It's not that what we heard so far came out of nowhere, and it doesn't feel forced to me. Of course, in this case they went beyond what they did so far, and they also chose a producer and production team that brought the sound in a completely new direction for the band. They decided to sample a song, and to release three singles none of which can really be classified as a punk rock song, despite the fact, as we already know, that there will be more typical punk rock songs in the record. They pushed the boundaries, it can be hated, but I wait to hear the record to decide whether the experiment was successful or not.

I feel like I have to mentally prepare for this😂 I thought the chorus drew a parallel to the Foo Fighters, another band that's having trouble following up the big one. But honestly, the chorus for FOAMF really rocks. If you put AI guitars on that chorus it would make a difference. Also, there won't be hip-hop. Expect something The Clash would do. Take an influence and execute elements of that sound into their own sound. Except in a more contemporary fashion. Then you have whatever GD has on this record. 1 hour ago, Beyza said: I know a lot of people don’t really like it but I hope for more falsetto cause I think Billie handles it well and it makes the performances more interesting. The issue with the falsetto imo isn't the performance. He's done it live and pulled it off well in most occasions (mind you it's not an easy thing to do for an ENTIRE verse). The challenge is getting that falsetto over drums, bass and guitars. It's a production/recording challenge. I didn't like how distorted the vocal was but it's helping cut through the instruments. Personally I would have had a more clean sound. Reference Sweet 16's falsetto to understand exactly what I'm imagining. Can't blame Butch cause now we've heard what was sent to him. They need to start working with a producer that's IN HOUSE not REMOTE. Anyways, I'm not sure why a maximizer and/or an expander wouldn't do the trick 24 minutes ago, HAPPY ROOTING UNICORN said: Ugh that’s definitely not a good one, and EW usually has kind words for Green Day records. Even the other reviews may have been more positive in nature but are still somewhat mixed. This is a very different and experimental record. That's why they made a point of it being 26 minutes. Actually really smart if you ask me. With the trilogy word of mouth became that it wasn't good. Who's gonna roll 37 songs that they've been told are terrible? With this you can take this in as fast as you would take in an episode of a sitcom. Well I got 26 mins lets see what this is about... Album rock is not a popular format but presenting it in 26 mins and only 10 songs ... smart play
Thatsername
What I find strange is that Billie is promoting his appearance in the Tyla Yaweh Video more than his own new single. He only mentioned OY briefly in his story once - not even worth a full post, so it seems. I just can’t get rid of the feeling that things are ... odd this time.

Yeah, I felt like it maybe because of the title change and it didn’t turn out how he really wanted etc. since he doesn’t seem really excited about it but I think he’ll be not like that after the release, I hope he’ll share his excitement or happiness with us more cause I think it’s important for who are excited for their music

Lenny
15 minutes ago, That Dude said: All the other negatives sound like positives to me. This is probably the most punk think I've read on this forum ever. There are some records I love that are just totally trashed on popular vote. The experiment maybe does something for me personally and not for others. For example Rolling Stone gave my fave Rush album Fly By Night a 2/5. It has a radio hit in "Fly By Night", a top 5 Rush song in "Anthem", their first progressive song in "By Tor and the Snowdog" and a sweet ending with "In The End". By Tor was even called "horrendous" in other reviews. Neil Peart dies and then you get "a must hear drum solo on By Tor and the Snowdog". After all these years people finally get what they were doing. At the time people thought they were just weird and nuts. They were somewhat of an obscure cult following band and ended their career as one of the most successful bands in record sales and ticket sales. Maybe as we grow older or get over the novelty of this experiment we look back later and think well you know what X song isn't so bad. "Actually I like this part now" or "those lyrics relate to my situation right now". At some points I've explained lyrics to friends that misinterpreted lyrics and they're like "holy shit I missed the entire meaning of the song and now that I understand this makes so much more sense now". 3
Popular Post jengd
And this is exactly why I never pay attention to reviews, also I find often reviewers are trying to achieve something other than just give an impartial review.
