Beerjeezus
I expect that among fans, there will be few neutral opinions about FOAM. There might be more opinions on the meh side among critics.

From a musical perspective there's no substance. It's a gimmick. How could you try to say something like Selena Gomez is actually music? It's a voice over computerized beats that carry 0 rhythm. I have no problem with use of electronics. I'm a huge Bowie fan. Those electronic elements used actually have real rhythms though. You could argue Selena is just a singer I guess. I wouldn't say a very good one but there's an argument there for her being a singer. Based on your comment you must consider Drake to be a musician right? What about that Kanye album where the beat is literally just a muffled sound throughout the entirety of songs? Sorry but it's just not music. Is there music that's considered pop that actually has elements of actual music? Yes. Is it always good? No. I guess you could say Post Malone and Billie Eilish fall into pop as well. They atleast have actual rhythms and melodies in their music. It may not be something that falls into my niche all the time but I can respect what they do. They also have respect for great musicians. I hate that Billie Eilish got ripped on for being 17 and not knowing who Van Halen is. I do love her response saying that she has something new to check out. I can guarantee you she rocked out to it. Modern pop has contributed to creating a really toxic group of fans and people that have 0 respect for actual musicians. Here's the test. Neil Peart just died. A drumming virtuoso who happens to be a part of a top 100 selling musical group of all time. Rock stars around the world have given condolences and honored him. MillenniumFan
I'm really interested to see if "Oh Hey" will differ at all from what we've heard so far from this album. It's also short, so I don't think it will be radically different, but I'm still interested to see what the rest of the album holds. Contrary to some here, I didn't actually mind FOAM that much and it grew on me as time went buy. The live performances have also been absolutely killer. My biggest gripe with FOAM (the album) so far has been the pitiful front album cover and the abomination of a song that is FRA (in my opinion). But despite this, I'm gonna try my best to keep an open mind. This is Green Day after all, probably the only band I know that has caused me both tears of joy, as well as of disappointment...

By your logic Yoko Ono is also a musician 👍 If you actually read what I wrote it has nothing to do with whether I like it or not. Just to add in: I can see from a fan's view of seeing someone having an album or career with multiple albums may make you believe that they're a musician regardless. My view is from the view of an actual musician and student of music. Even the great Henry Rollins himself stated that he doesn't identify as being a musician. He said he knows nothing about melody, harmony and rhythms and he can't play an instrument. All he knows is how to put on a show and manifest his aggressive nature into a growl. You can take something from Henry on that statement. He admits to knowing nothing about sheet music and even being unable to pick it up by ear and repeat it.

Maybe I'll make it myself. I'm not trying to compare FOAM to Yoko Ono, not at all. I don't mind the FOAM song at all lmao. For me much better than Dos Tre definitely had well written songs as any GD record has but something didn't translate through the production well. I think GD missed an opportunity to do a trilogy of albums with a trilogy of producers and group of engineers. It would have been a fresh and exciting long project for them. I feel like they started to get drained by the end of it. I thought Rob Cavallo fits Uno well as the theme is the classic GD record. Rob has been the classic GD producer over the years. For Dos, it was hard to put my finger on someone who would fit this type of record. Typically in the past dirty garage rock records are self produced. Honestly, the first thing I thought off was Raw Power. Just do that with GD. Bowie and Iggy producers on that. For Tre, Butch Vig is perfect he really made those Green Day songs with strings come to life on 21cb. Jeff Lynne would be another good choice. To remain on topic about FOAM I just don't know who the guy would have been to produce this. The energy is captured well in the recordings they really gave it their all but I'm just not a fan of his mixes and EQing especially on the vocals. I wouldn't have minded them working with Nick who worked on Foo Fighters and left that to go be the producer for Rush. Clockwork Angels was named the best rock record of the decade. Those guitar tones are just incredible and he seems to do a great job with vocals. I'm sure Geddy having quite an unusual voice is not an easy thing to EQ.
