Okay, regarding the mono situation. Yes of course it will sound different/better in a stereoscopic space. However, sound engineers and mastering technicians also EQ and balance the album in mono. They switch back and fourth so that it will still sound good/recognizable in mono. This is done for multiple reasons, volume control, to ensure that no sounds are in the same sonic space, and (most importantly for commercial music) that it will sound good in mono for public listening. To this last point, when you hear music in the grocery store, Barns and Noble, Home Depot, department stores, etc. it is in mono and audio engineers know this and still want it to sound good.

This is true for mixdown mono, not really for single channel mono (which we currently have still). We're getting the left channel only so as I've said a few times, and Matt just said, everything exclusive to the left channel is 100% volume, anything in the center is only 50% volume, and everything panned on the right side is 0% volume. You are right when it comes to mix down mono though.

The lyrics are amazing!   I love how Billie went from feeling like a cello to a tooth ache.

One of my favorite lyrics in the whole bunch is "taking drowning lessons".   That line is confusing, haunting and I've mentally kind of figured out what it means to me, but I can't find the words to explain.   Maybe I will be able to put words to it eventually.   What do you guys think he means?

Is "Meet Me on the Roof" a happy song or a sad song?   Both?  Neither?   He's partying and hanging out, but feeling bad.   Love it!

On "Teenage Teenager Teenaging"  he is living like a prisoner for haters.   I don't get that one at all.

While most of "Stab" is straight forward violence, what about "Rusty Tamborine, Gimme Steletto".     Not following at all, Billie Joe.

Sugar Youth, like the title track doesn't have the name in the lyrics.   What does it mean to be a child of a bandito and a coyote?  Billie is wily, I'll give him that!

"Junkies" has some interesting lyrics:   Any takes on "subdivision smile".   I think that's a fake smile.

"My pride is my pornograhpy, kool-aid is my motto".     Wha?

"Money and Crawl" is straght forward, except I would have rhymed "dick" with "sick" instead of NOT rhyming "suck my *&^"

But hey, you don't have to rhyme to make killer tunes.

Kool-Aid is my motto is half the line. In the song he says “Kool-Aid is my motto Oh Yeah” Oh Yeah being the Kool Aid ad motto and in general that verse references how he doesn’t really stand for anything and shouldn’t be followed and worshipped. “Nobody is my name” “My path, don’t follow”

Also worth mentioning that the phrase "Drinking the Kool-Aid" is an expression that refers to this incident where a cult leader lead a bunch of his followers to drink poision I think. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure that's where it comes from.

Yes that’s true. I love when his lyrics have layers of meaning ❤️

I think that "My pride is my pornography" is a touch about the self-depreciation that BJ said in the recent interviews.

In other words, the pride is such an important matter for the speaker because is a source of pleasure, but at the same time, doing stuff to keep it good is degradation in flesh.

The record is full of good lines, but this one is my favorite.

Oh, same 🤩 "What are the symptoms of our happiness and Civil War" may sound like nonsense to some, but gosh that line is deep to me

Yup, Jim Jones/Jonestown (although technically it was flavoraid that they used).  Also, 412 of the Jonestown victims are buried in Evergreen cemetery in Oakland and the Jonestown memorial is there.  I went there on one of my Oakland trips (I'm a bit of a Jonestown junkie).

Did anyone else have to use song lyrics to understand what Billie was singing? Once I had them I thought, how could I not understand that? But still without them I needed them again.

After reading this, I googled it and read a little more. Kind of wish I hadn't, as it was pretty cracked, but it's always neat to have context for the lines I guess.

I prefer this rip of FRA. I like how he sings the chorus (like the live version) better than the actual track.

So I'm not the only one who noticed it's different.

In the live version, instead of the actual track's "Ready! Aim! Fire! Fire ready ai-i-i-i-i-m" it seemed to become more like "Ready ai-im fi-re, fire ready ai-i-im" with emphasis on the "ready" instead of all three words.

...if what I said there made any sense at all 🤦‍♀️

Yep, Foam is different too.I think this proves that the singles were released too soon for the Hella Mega tour promotion.

my childhood love was Prozzak. Rob Cavallo actually tried to bring them to the US but it didn't work out.

In the case of FRA, the NHL All Star Performance was outside! I looked up the weather and it was very cold that night, like 25 degrees! I certainly wouldn’t be able to give it my all in freezing temperatures like that!

ironically I am watching that video right now, I was in the middle of American Idiot when I got this notification lmao

I think I need to clarfiy that I was actually complimenting the difference in sound, I honestly liked the FRA live vocals better than that of the released track's, hahaha.
