Am I the only one to love FOAMF and FRA ?

im really confident in the upcoming album and in view of their recents shows at the AMA’s for example, I think they’re now considered like a proven band, currently they can do what music they want and il ok with that

Moreover FOAM is incredible live, the song has a particular energy and it’s not a bad song at all imo

I like both songs in general but I'm not really on board with the high pitched vocals haha. FOAM is much better live!

I guess I initially expected something with a bit more depth which is why I was skeptical at first, but i guess it's not fair of me to expect them to churn out 21CBs at every turn 💁‍♀️

im expecting mixed reviews that fall more on the negative side tbh. We're gonna get that the album has good energy, different sounds than before and the songs are quick and fast etc followed by a HOWEVER, it falls flat because this and that and doesn't hold up as a better album in their entire discography etc. They'll most likely draw parallels with the trilogy but will highlight that this is a new sound for GD and a focused effort of only 10 tracks which is easier to digest.

Honestly I think that it's a very smart move to have an experimental record be rather short for this same reason. 👍 The people who love it will love it, you get that everywhere. And the people who don't love it will eventually begrudgingly shrug and say "at least it's only 26 minutes."

1. You're less inclined to skip the song or get annoyed by a song when it's over before you've even made a full judgement on it.

Also, some songs (like FRA) are just too short to skip :P

3. Fans have always complained "I went to xyz show and they pushed too much of their new album". If they were to play 4 new songs it would only amount to 8-10 minutes of the set.

Fans be like, "I didn't go to band x's show to hear music from band x!" 😂

It's kind of funny, because if they only play old stuff, people would complain that they're living in the past and not doing enough to promote the new album or whatever 💁‍♀️

I've asked this before, many times, and have not received a satisfactory answer. Maybe you can explain. What exactly about FOAM is experimental?

I think GD's had a decent balance when judging it long term. There's times I went to the show and they pushed a lot of new music. There's times I went and they leaned on the back catalog. There was one time where they had an equal balance during a show which is a rare occurrence for them at a single event.

The trilogy show I went to was actually heavier with new music than the Rev Rad show I went to. I'm curious to see how many new songs they play. They definitely will not get in the way of them playing any old songs.

I say this selfishly because Billie is one of my guitar idols but I can honestly say that my most hated part about this era of Green Day is Billie not playing his guitar on songs. Especially songs from revolution radio that he played guitar on the last tour. It’s like he saw Billie Eilish and thought “yeah that’s what I want to be now.” I’ve never had a problem with him not playing guitar on St Jimmy or even FOA, but I do with bang bang and revolution radio and I hope to god he doesn’t do it with more older songs in the future or even new songs. Give someone three inches and then they take a yard, you know?

Idk, I don't think I can give you a satisfactory answer either 😅 I mean, I've read stuff about it being an experiment and it makes sense to me, what with the high pitched vocals and the idea that they're aiming for a more retro sound, BJA talking about how he wants to try and sound like Prince, stuff like that. Everything that takes such a drastic new direction has to be in some senses experimental. 🤷‍♀️ I don't think that was a good enough answer but it's what I think I guess

Lucky, I've never seen them live... maybe this time things will be different

Well, I would not call FOAM experimental from a general music perspective, but for sure GD is experimenting new sounds with it, even only taking the falsetto into account. I really can’t describe it as a typical GD song, and I can’t really find another song in their catalogue that sounds in any way like that.
When I look at the record I expect to hear more experimentation in this sense. Which doesn’t necessarily mean they have to invent a new sound, but to incorporate sounds they never or rarely used in their music. For sure I don’t expect GD to reinvent the wheel tho :P

Yeah I guess....well then, if you want true experimentation, you need to take a look at Yoko Ono 😛

That's more like auditory genocide

I completely disagree in the case of Bang Bang I think losing the guitar made that song come alive and it’s now surpassed St Jimmy for me as my favorite live performance. He’s such a dynamic performer letting him hand over the guitar responsibilities to Kevin a few times a show now really sets him free. He said he likes it and it shows.

It's fitting as it's similar to a Bad Religion song and Greg doesn't play guitar
