It's too bad the concept of a b-side is going the way of the buffalo. Would really love to hear some of the tracks that didn't make FOAMF

Good point I miss b sides. Now when singles get released to streaming sites and wherever it’s just the song and nothing else.  That was a great way to get outtakes.

How's everyone expecting FOAM to do when it's released? Not too optimistic as there doesn't seem to be any hype at all

Yeah, but they are playing at the NHL equivalent, not sure how it is called and if that’s what is happening next week :)

Not the equivalent. It's the All Star Game. The equivalent would be the Stanley Cup.

I think you're thinking of the Pro Bowl.

Hard to say if they don’t start to promote the shit out of it like right now :D

I'm expecting similar to Rev Rad in sales figures. Hardcore fans are going to buy the vinyl or some form of a physical copy. They'll get some streams out of interest.

It also heavily depends on the other 8 songs. If they're all bangers it could surprise us.

FRA sounds like it was written in 5 minutes

and yet it still is better than any of the "top 10 rock songs " of the last decade lol When compared to GD standard it's a different story and I get that.

What if the next 8 songs are an 8/10 or above? We're really jumping the gun here. The most criticism I've seen is on a 1:30 minute song that was clearly made for the NHL.

FRA is not for us. Sadly, neither is FOAM. The other 8 songs may just be especially if none of them are singles or planned singles.

The criticism of these new songs is far more than "It doesn't sound like dookie/AI so I don't like it". It sounds like there's been less effort put into it. FRA sounds like it was written in 5 minutes

Of course you can dislike these songs and music style, but I don’t see any factual element to say that there’s much difference in terms of song complexity from many other GD songs. RevRad, 99 revolutions, KYE are just a few examples of very linear songs, with basic lyrics, and from a certain point of view even less creativity than FRA. Not saying they are worse or better, that’s very much up to your personal taste, but If we talk about GD songs that could have been written in 5 minutes the catalogue can be very long.

I was listening to FRA and I'm positive it's slower than I remembered it being, but in reality, it's a huge bop on 1.25x speed

I love how Green Day are playing older songs when they appear on shows.

We may be approaching a version of this band that changes up setlists and does whatever they want.

They should play The Grouch and Platypus at some live performance and keep playing after the feed is cut.

I love this era, and if you don't....that's fine.  Guessing you have a favorite era, but maybe not.

Maybe you are here because you hate Green Day.

Which makes you punk rock.

Which means you are not punk rock.

Green Day!

Feel like there was some excitement amongst people for RevRad though? I’ve not heard or seen much said about FOAM over here or on any social media other than when it was initially announced

I don’t know if anyone is a fan of Tame Impala, I am. Anyway, he has an album coming out in early February also, and he just released his 3rd single from it. Again, it’s the standard model these days. Hoping GD is prepping a release very soon as well.

I mean, seeing as 99 Revolutions was centered on an actual movement, I think that gives it a lot more depth than FRA right from the get go. (of course, whether or not it really is his 'best writing' is an opinion that's completely subjective :P

I remember this one interview where BJA was saying that every song has to come from the same place--whether political/personal/fun/angry/etc, it should come from the same place as a love song, something like that. Not that I'm putting something like Nightlife on the same pedestal as something like Restless Heart Syndrome, do not even attempt to go there 🤦‍♀️ (after all, I just said that I think that 99 Revolutions has more depth than FRA lol) but it's fair to assume that they put a lot of love/effort into the majority of the songs that they put out... imo that's why everything's got that Green Day energy whether it was written in 5 minutes or over the course of 5 months. :D

As someone who enjoys both FRA and KYE, and finds them low key similar, personally I think FRA would've had a better reception if it was louder, a lil faster --> more in your face like KYE was for me. To me it seemed like it had the potential to be as much as a banger as KYE, something that would make an audience jump and also totally get me going and driving at least 10mph above the speed limit 😂 if it was more like that, but that's just a personal opinion from someone who doesn't hate/criticize KYE

And let's be honest, if BJA's lyrics were as blunt/finger-pointing/specifically critical/etc as something like the Dead Kennedys, people would complain even more than they do about the songs/lines that are vague and open to interpretation on a huge scale... imo I think that's part of the beauty of a line like "We live in troubled times" because it could mean extremely different things to everybody and still strike a deep chord close to home, y'know? From this perspective, it may be slightly arguable that KYE has deeper lyrical creativity than FRA, even.

Like the chorus of FOAM--I mean the lyrics--whether it was written in 5 seconds or 5 weeks, it hits me every time on a personal scale with its relatability, if you will. Idk. There's a red line under "relatability" so either I spelled that wrong or it's not a word, 😅

Yeah we'll almost certainly get a single before the albums released.
