I like the idea, but wouldn't that mean they'd have to turn in those non-album tracks to Warner?

Generally all non album tracks automatically belong to the label 

(there are a few exceptions and some labels care more than others... I don’t know how GD and Warner’s contract is set up)

Do you know at what point that ends, is it like everything they record up to the point they deliver the completed album is the labels and once that’s done they can start recording and releasing their own music? What about stuff they may have recorded alongside the album but in their own studio on separate time?

Could they release their self owned music during the same time Warner releases their music? Is there some sort of non-compete rule?

It all depends on what’s in their contracts

The way I interpreted the interviews about it was this: that they delivered a  10-track album after deciding which 7 were not going to make the cut. I could be wrong, and that they handef over all 17 for the label to decide on what to do with the b-sides, but it really sounded like they withheld everything they could.

So just for the sake of discussion, let's say Warner only has the 10 songs for FOAMF. Would it then come down to the language of the contract?

Depends on what’s in the contract 

usually It’s when the term of album being released and promotion duties are fulfilled

Yeah I know what you mean and I really hope that Billie‘s hate for long songs is just a phase because the Who-esque anthems have kind of become their signature sound, and they’re SO good at it. But I guess that’s also a reason why they want to do it different this time, and I get it. Short songs can be great, just take Fever Blister which is shorter than 2 minutes, but it kicks so much ass. So... more songs like Fever Blister please 😬

I was definitely put off at first by the 10 songs, 26 minute news, but I was listening to Goodbye Ellston Avenue yesterday, which is just under 24 minutes, and it didn't feel that short.  So maybe there's hope.

I think it can hurt a record. An album being so short can make it feel unfulfilling. Kinda like ordering a pizza and you get like 1 bites worth. It may be great and taste great and such, but it doesnt feel filling and just gives you the feeling of "Oh this is getting really g- oh its over...fuck..."

 

There's also the timing thing. Its like waiting 4 years for said pizza only to get a few crumbs or 1 bite, it wont feel worth the wait usually. If this was like a year after their last album, sure. But this is a 4 year wait.

Maybe the lenght is not true and at final we have a longer album that surprise all of dissapointed fans increasing their sales on february. Maybe is a marketing strategy... Is the first time Billie talks about the lenght of an album.

I'm sure this album will be awesome. I mean Sum 41 "Order In Decline" have 10 songs and is 36 minutes long. And the album is fucking great ! 

So in FOAM I guess instead of singing the chorus 4-5 times it will only be twice and then we'll go on to the other song.

3 years and 4 months.  

And yes, I'm kind of worried about this album not being enough.   With 26 minutes and 10 tracks, there's not much room for any song to really do much.  2 1/2 minutes a piece, or somewhere close.   If any song is LONGER than that, it cuts other songs done to 1 minute, yike!  

Now, this is Green Day so they could be the 10 most banging songs ever.    We just have to hang tight and see what this sounds like.

Based on the info Billie provided in the most recent interviews it sounds like the contract is fulfilled sometime in 2020
