I was so looking forward to seeing them last year and we had a great summer.  Should have been seeing them about now and the summer so far is awful so hoping for better next year.

Yesterday was a year until I see them next year. Today should've been the day I saw GD this year. Tomorrow would've been a year since I saw them last year. The only consolation for not being able to go this year is that it has been peeing down all day- I hope after all this time waiting for the gigs that people's shows aren't spoilt by the weather.

I remember Billie saying at Emirates something about it being June/summer and you know what that means? "More rain"!

The opening show in Dallas has now sold out. The other gigs that have sold out are Boston, Hershey & Chicago.

I mean yeah, I wouldn't be comfortable going to a show this year. At all. Hell, mere hours ago I finally got a letter saying it's time for my age group to get vaccinated. Obviously we're not ready for big crowds for quite some time.

I'm jealous of everyone that can go to shows safely, is all.

See the thing is, when you post stuff like this it makes me want to immediately ask for your hand in marriage.

My concern now is that these early shows cause (or appear to) a spike in numbers and they get the blame, that could mean really negative publicity which in this day and age of cancel culture could be pretty serious for them.

I'm thinking about this too. If Green Day gives America another wave, they're not going to be the nation's favorite band.

 that's exactly the reaction I'm hoping to elicit

I mean, let's be honest here: there are going to be far bigger events going on than these shows this summer. All the places they are playing have other large events going on. I mean, these are stadiums, so by definition they are also hosting things like baseball games, etc, which will have crowds just as big. Heck, Olympics will be going on in Japan. And all over America and the world, people are going to be travelling and going on vacation in record numbers due to not being able to do so last year. Just this morning on the news someone was talking about how the number of people flying for July 4 is already above what it was before the pandemic. Any of this could cause an outbreak, but the point is that there will only be outbreaks if too many people are not vaccinated. And quite frankly, some crackpot who won't get a vaccine because they think the government is microchipping them is probably not the type of person who will be at a Green Day concert LOL.

Ok, hadn’t realised you were getting so much back to normal.  Travel within Eau is still pretty locked down and other events are being fairly controlled.

That makes sense. But yes, everything here is open now. So any of it could cause outbreaks. But only if people are not vaccinated. And in some places most people are vaccinated and in some places they aren't. So it really depends (for example, in the south--as usual--vaccination rates are low). Also this Delta variant is spreading pretty rapidly in places with low vaccination.

@BillieMyLove & @jengd The Olympics are limiting to no more than 50% (or 10,000) spectators at any event.

I knew about the Olympics, not sure they should be happening at all with 10,000 competitors but not sure if that numbers includes all the team support as well.  If it doesn’t, this is a huge event, I can’t believe it’s happening!  Especially given the vaccine rate etc in Japan, strikes me as crazy!

Team USA is not allowing any one but those necessary to travel to Tokyo (athletes, trainers, coaches & med professionals). While I understand the reasoning for this, it sucks for the families/support systems of these athletes.

That makes sense. I know Japan is definitely in worse shape than the U.S. is with this. It's amazing the Olympics are even going on, and it's even more amazing that the U.S. is somehow actually ahead of the rest of the world on something for once, and especially something in healthcare. Still concerned about not enough people being vaccinated. Was just watching something on TV about how cases are starting to rise again among undervaccinated groups.

What about setlists?

I think 15 songs for Weezer in a 60 minute set...probably the same for FOB if they also do an hour. I'm hoping for around 25 songs from GD in a 2 hour set. I hope that a few FOAM songs like TTMAC and Graffitia make it onto the setlist, I haven't heard NGFL, Welcome to Paradise or Brain Stew live so I'd like to hear those.
