The European tour starts at the end of May (without Weezer & Fall out boy). Can't they just announce the cancellation or new dates already.

the german Rock am Ring festival got cancelled today (first weekend of june 2022 is the next date)

atm there are no information about the lineup in 2022 (GD supposed to headline this in 2020 / 2021), i guess they will plan with a completely new lineup or they are still in talks to move the bands again

A 3-day festival that was supposed to happen near me the same week as the show I was going to for this tour just got moved to September a few days ago. I don’t think a delay is out of the realm of possibility, but for something this large it’s going to take a lot of logistics to figure it out, especially making sure it doesn’t conflict with the MLB schedule.

I know I joke that I want them to just announce something already, but with how things are progressing in America with vaccines, they probably don’t want to do anything hasty and lose this opportunity. I honestly never thought cases would be dropping this significantly this soon. But with COVID we know how quickly things can spiral out of control again. It’s a really tough call.

That will also be a big problem with moving the European dates, you can only do shows in sports stadiums during the off season. The gig at the London Stadium, for example, will categorically NOT happen any later than August. West Ham WILL NOT let their pitch get messed about for a gig, I assume MLB teams will feel the same. The sport will take priority.

Surprisingly the dates that were originally announced were right in the middle of the season, so I'm sure they can make it work for MLB — but October would be really hard to figure out with it not being known now who would be in the playoffs. They probably wouldn't want to work around it.

... well, I'm sure they could schedule one in Cleveland, actually. Safe to say they won't be in the playoffs. :P

To be fair I don't know how gigs at baseball stadiums work really, is there anyone on the floor or is it just the seats in the stands? I guess baseball is less dependant on the surface than football because of the nature of the sports.

They put the stage in the outfield, cover the grass/dirt with fake flooring and then add chairs/barricades. Wrigley Field (Chicago) does it every year multiple times a season.

And actually, the Raiders and Oakland A's used to play in the exact same stadium. The football field was in the outfield.

Yeah, when I was at Wrigley in the pit it was very easy to forget you were in the outfield! It was a good setup.

Yeah that 's the same for football stadiums here, in fact most stadiums have a removable pitch these days. Problem is it takes a long time to bed the pitch, can't just take it out at the drop of a hat.

Who knows then, it might be easier with baseball stadiums as they only cover the pitch and the game is less reliant on the surface than football. For Europe it'll have to be summer or probably getting cancelled.

That's what I'm getting at tho, it's not going to happen. The dates in England could happen but that's about it.

They won’t come just to England for the tour

wouldn’t be financially viable or even possible insurance wise.

even if all that came about They’d need the ‘not before’ dates to be on the money

I say this as someone who had planned the whole Uk section with the Irish date

There was a whole article on the Raider/A's field crew and the work they did between games to fix the field.

I'm not sure what you mean by "the pitch". LIke the pitchers mound? If so, they don't remove that - even for concerts. It's covered then blocked off.

There isn't a travel restriction within the USA. You can fly domestically. Actually, a coworker just flew to Central America for a 2 week vacation. He had no issues getting in or out of the country (US). I didn't ask he if had issues once he got to Central America.

He means the football field.

When Little Mix played at Huddersfield a few years ago the pitch (field/grass) was ruined by the concert, especially where the stage had been. This is why the concerts can't be moved to another time in the year at the UK venues as the stadiums need time to prepare for the football season.

Ah! Got it. Thank you.

@Joe. Very few football stadiums in the US have real grass these days. The baseball fields do and players complain about the surface after events like this, but that's why they put down fake flooring.

Yeah lol neither do football stadiums here, that's what I meant. The pitch will be made of say 12 squares of half grass half artificial grass that all have to be lifted up and out, then put back, and then bedded so they're one pitch and not 12 squares. That takes months.

They don't pick up turf (100% fake grass) here - ever. They just put the floor over the top. They make the change over in less than one day. They only time turf is removed is when it get's replaced.

Wrigley Field seems to think it's still happening.  I'm still skeptical that they'll be able to have 10s of thousands together by August.

That’s fine if tickets haven’t been sold yet, but for postponed shows that already sold tickets to near capacity, what are they gonna do, randomly refund 80% of tickets? They couldn’t anyway because the tour would lose so much money they wouldn’t be able to do it

This is why I really do not think it'll happen this year. Sure, stadiums might be opened to reduced capacity but what are they gonna do for events with tickets sold already? What will they do for people who have pit tickets? Obviously what we once had as pit cannot happen right now. It'll honestly be a shit show if it tries to go ahead this year. They need to postpone or cancel. I know if they go ahead for whatever reason this year, I will be looking to sell my tickets as I really don't feel comfortable being in a pit with thousands of other people, with hundreds of those people likely being unvaccinated. No thank you.
