DookieLukie Posted September 5, 2019 Share Posted September 5, 2019 People on the left lump Catholics in with cult-like sects of Christianity like creationists and Baptists even though Catholicism is vastly different from these Bible-belt Christian sects. Despite some bad scandal, the Catholic Church promotes science alongside religious teachings (only Christian group that agrees with evolution I believe) and is constantly evolving. Drives me nuts every time some asshat leftist extremist starts talking to me about how Catholics don't believe in dinosaurs and want to kill gays. Wrong religion, buddy. We live in a world where people hop on the social justice bandwagon and act like they're martyrs. Taylor Swift puts out a song supporting the gay community years after they achieved equal rights and calls herself a "trendsetter." It's easy to do that once everyone has already laid the groundwork. But now she's profiting off the gay community and people are eating it up. I haven't minded Green Day's commentary on religion before because it's been so minimal. Either the story continues AND/OR ends...I think ending is plausable as he looks very dead on the cover...he also dies off in the AI musical storyline...I would love for a continuation. Being raised in a religious Jewish household as a child, I would agree with anyone that questioned or called it out for it's issues tbh. There are sects of Judaism as well that are very problematic, just like any religion I guess. Even as a little kid I questioned a lot of what my dad tried to teach me. A lot of it was extreme, he was what I guess some would call a fanatic. Some pretty whack shit. And I think there are controlling, hypocritical, sexist and homophobic religious groups all around...it's not specific to just one sect or one religion. It’s true that to equate the catholic church with sects is wrong, but that’s mostly because it’s a much much much broader term. It would be like equating environmental activists with eco-terrorists. This in turn however means you cannot generalise saying they always or most commonly promote equal rights and science across the board, because that very much depends on when and where, because interpretations definitely vary lol. In any case, my opinion regarding the catholic church lines up more or less exactly with the very much not “asshat leftist extremist” and certainly not “uneducated” Stephen Fry (everyone go check out his excellent speech on that matter btw).
