Totally. I'm pretty damn sure this will be a rock opera/concept album. Yeah I kind of hope for a more blurred, maybe even psychedelic context with much room for interpretation too, rather than a complex story with characters. More like "Dark Side of the Moon" (no high expectations at all, right😂). But even if it will be a "real" concept album with a storyline, I think the songs can still speak for themselves. The more I think about Father of All, the more I love it. It definitely strengthens the epic vibe. Some sort of loose concept album but more experimentation. And I think the band is in a place where they want to branch out too. RevRad was safe, The Longshot allowed Billie to loosen up and play to some small shows, now I think it’s time to go big again. When I first heard that Butch Walker was producing I was ready to throw in the towel, I thought it had to be a sign they were going in a polished, poppier direction. Apart from RevRad which in that case was understandable. Every single one of their albums since they signed to a major label have had something big about them where they've tried things. I get the feeling that since the AI musical it’s been something Billie has been itching to try. I’m someone who’s still not sold on the artwork, but not because I think it isn’t great. It’s not pretentious it’s tongue in cheek just like calling yourself God’s Favorite Band which was genius and silly. I just hope it’s real and not a joke being played on us by either a troll or the band. My one concern about a rock opera is that it’s meant to be heard in order as a piece. If they release 3 or 4 singles first it will interfere with the storytelling. I'm very into the concept album thing and I'm very excited for more experimentation and branching out from the basic guitar/bass/drums band, but if there's one aspect of revrad I'd like to continue, it's how that record is cohesive and tells a story even though it doesn't have any characters and it works without explaining. I believe they could pull that off on a big record if they really went for it and it would somehow make it extra epic. Like Dark Side as you say. Yeah, it's grown on me too. As excruciating as it would be, I'd rather wait then have it spoiled. February is so far away though. At least 2 ir 3 singles seem inevitable. RedundantIdiot Posted September 4, 2019 Share Posted September 4, 2019 Initially I thought they might do a Insomniac or a Nimrod style album, but it seems increasingly likely that they are going down the "rock opera" route, which (if thats what it is) I'm happy about as AI and 21st Century Breakdown were the albums that I heard songs from 1st before hearing the older stuff (which I also like). I didn't mind GD playing it safe with Rev Rad as they did what made them happy for that album, but I'm hoping for something more epic this time. As for the 3 videos on Instagram I think they are definitely an inside job, I think the artwork is hilarious but I'm not convinced it's real.
