Next Album Anticipation Thread....Chapter 2

One thing that's giving me a little hope for this album is the rumor that they're going independent later on. It wouldn't make a lot of sense to go out of their way to cater to a mainstream audience with a manufactured pop album and then say fuck it we changed our mind let's go indie. If the goal of this project was to be pop radio friendly, it would make no sense to make a 180 degree turn afterwards, especially in case it's commercially successful.

It would be funny if they had a big commercial hit when they weren’t meaning to 😄

My feeling is that Green Day getting another commercial relies heavily on how radio stations treat their new music.

Back when Still Breathing first came out, it was #1 for at least month I believe. It was big, even my friends who aren’t big Green Day fans knew of its existence through radio. With that being said, I never hear it anymore. I listen to an alternative radio station that plays Dookie/AI stuff a lot, but still Breathing comes once in a blue moon. Yet, I still hear Thunder by Imagine dragons come on every hour and that song is 2 years old.

The choice of set for a music video (if that's what it is) really makes you think about what the song is like. As others have mentioned, glitter, sugar and spice, and everything nice implies a poppy song. For whatever reason, it makes me think about "Oh Love" and its horrific video 😖

exactly my thought, here is hope for more "bang bang" and less "oh love" 😐

Mmh yes and no. They recorded Hitchin' a ride in a sort of theatre for burlesque, so...Who knows, they're Green Day, what we've learned is that we can expect everything and it's contrary :D

Does it really ever work like that?

Yes of course it can. I am pretty confident that any musician creates an album with the anticipation that it will be a commercial success. I would imagine the record companies do forecasts. So yes there is probably some idea of what the commercial success will be. The forecast may be off but I'm pretty sure the forecast exists

Yessss, it’s definitely happening :D Those golden shoes are so glam, trash and awesome at the same time 😀

I think it could actually be a pretty cool scenario for a music video, it really depends on how they use it :)

If the name of the song I've been told about happens to be true, and yesterday was really a music video shoot at the Madonna Inn, we're in for a treat 😂

And no, it's not "Bratwurst"

We should note that the rumored release date, September 19, is just a day before Area 51 is to be stormed. It's meant to be a soundtrack for freeing our alien comrades.

Okay I've been back from Leeds Festival 48 hours and still haven't finished catching up on life... but GDC is now caught up on!

Such great news that we seem to be very close to things kicking off... I think we are all ready for it. That photo shoot / video shoot is very interesting. I do wonder what the song name is you've been told Matt.. and what makes it sound like a "treat" when considering the location of yesterday's shoot. I suppose we'll find out soon!

While at the festival I had visions of standing there next year with Green Day performing to 70,000 people... please let it happen.
