MillenniumFan
"Not any time soon" can be interpreted very widely, but when I hear that statement, I think of months or years, not just weeks.

I think we have to all accept that our hopes were simply built on incredibly shaky grounds from the start and that there's not gonna be any new Green Day any time soon. Unlike in 2016 and 2012, we don't have the same security to say anything about the state of the album, never mind release dates... Only we know they've been recording, and an album is more than likely done There will be music this year, just maybe not the 19th.
KarlAuerE12thSt
Yeah I see that not this year was too much but with „not anytime near“ I don’t see that summer will be about Green Day
The Grohl
Guess back to my boring, depressing life now. Thanks, Kerrang.
Biddymc
Why is "Not anytime soon" in quotes? Was that the exact words from management OR are they like air quotes, that can mean like anything?
MillenniumFan
No, it's just a "standard" quote.

Christian's Inferno!
I'm just trying to figure out what "not any time soon" means. Does that mean not in the next few days, not in the next few weeks, not in the next few months? I mean we obviously know they've been working on stuff. They're likely finished the album at this point Matt has even told us that GD is the focus of the summer, so I'm not really buying this "not any time soon" thing
DeJennsitized
It’s obvious there’s no point in trying to guess what it means, we just gotta wait til the actual band say something (by that I mean an actual announcement lol)

Billie Joes Eyelids
I really don’t understand why they would release the album in October per usual and once again miss the Grammy bandwagon for 2020. With how that went last cycle, I would think they would want to push everything up. Also, if they did do the bulk of the recording in the spring and the album isn’t dropping until really late this year, is that a longer than normal interval? For anyone who knows the process because I don’t.
The Grohl
Maybe they don't care about the Grammys because the Grammys suck
Jean
We'll know something is coming when a random user who made their account 10+ years ago starts posting for the first time dropping vague as fuck hints.
MillenniumFan
I'm just hoping Sophie K will respond to my tweet asking about the Sharon/Julia thing, although she probably won't. It's just the last thing not making any sense at all to me in all of this.

MillenniumFan
I'm sorry to say this, but no source, however reliable, is as clear and straight-forward as photographic evidence of the band recording (which we don't have, the Butch Walker thing can and has been disputed) and/or official announcements by the band. We currently have neither and on top of that, we did have the former back in 2012 and 2016.
JellyTime
It reminds me of the situation, when Jason Freese told one fan about the "tour in September" thing, everyone went wild and band managment was like "NOT TRUE, CALM DOWN"

For anyone who knows the process because I don’t. There really is no standard timeline. I see a lot of people asking "how long would recording take?", "how long would mixing/mastering take?" etc Every song and every album is different especially when you're a band like Green Day that has historically made huge records and have been successful. If Billie wants he could spend the entire day recording guitars, trying different parts, continue tracking till he gets it right or to the level that he expects it to sound in his head. This is something that he does as well and when he's in the studio with other acts this is something he shares with artists. I believe it was Max from SWMRS who mentioned that in an interview. Even with mixing and mastering which typically don't take too long when you have high level pros, if the band is picky they may want something redone or may want two different versions of it to compare and contrast etc It would also depend on their focus on the entire process as well and if they want to be involved at all levels. I heard stories where Billie wasn't even around to review the mastering for the trilogy (not sure if that's valid or not)
