Next Album Anticipation Thread....Chapter 2

Second Street's also one of my favorite PHGP songs.  Seemed that they played it with a bit of a country feel to it last night.

I’m starting to think the next album will have more of a classic rock sound to it, a bit more laid back.

If the covers they play and the Longshot EPs are indicative, it looks like there's a classic rock influence. I hear that sound already on revrad in Somewhere Now and Outlaws and I think it suits them

Billie grew up listening to country music. I think he nails the country, blues, classic rock sound. Love the songs that have that vibe to them.

It’s hard to imagine Mike and Tre going along with this though.

Green Day has many country/blues/classic rock sounding songs, going all the way back to Dookie.

I know that Warning has kind of a more jangly, American sound to it. And even though it’s a great album, it wasn’t received well. So I’m a little scared of them going in this direction.

It wasn't well received AT THE TIME but nowadays, the majority think it's a good Green Day album and many think it's one of their bests or is their best album. If they went with a Warning-ish sound on this album, I don't think it'd be received that badly. Of course I don't want them to just revisit old sounds and not offer anything new in their music, but the Warning sound wouldn't be a bad way to go as long as they mix it with some new elements

Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks Pulling Teeth has a slight country vibe to it.

More than slight. When he sang it at Reading he wore a cowboy hat

What if the next single sounds like this?

Or this?

Well i love Misery. They sort of experimented with that sound more with Viva la Gloria (Little Girl) and I love that song too. That song is kind of the "odd one out" on the album. Most of the other songs have a certain sound to them, this one is totally different which I love.

Fashion Victim isn't a favourite of mine but I still enjoy it when I listen to it and fits in with the sound of the rest of the album.

Yes! It's good too. Not outstanding, but nice.

This conversation reminded me of:

This song has something from the classic/trilogy sound and also a tinge of new wave with the vocal effects and synth drums and imo it's something to work with.

The majority of who? I only ask because I know that it is pretty well received around here, but I don't hear much about Warning outside of here. If I were to ask any of my friends who are casual Green Day fans what album is their best, I don't think Warning would even come to mind

The majority of people who know about Warning think it's great! Many think it's one of their best or is their best. Of course most casuals would say AI or Dookie, but I think Warning is generally considered by most to be up there with albums like Nimrod, Insomniac or 21st Century Breakdown

I’m trying to get to the bottom of the Sept 19 rumor from The Bone but it just gets murkier. The one who reported on it (Shane from greendaypictures) heard it from his stepdad and he doesn’t know which DJ it was. DJ Baby Huey says it wasn’t him and would like to know who it was as well but we can’t seem to figure it out.

Warning was considered at the time to be a commercial failure compared to their previous albums. No big radio hits, not a lot of exposure on MTV (which was much more important at the time). Kind of a low ebb in their popularity. That’s why AI was considered a “comeback”.

Having said that, I really like the sound. I just hope, if that’s the way they go, it isn’t received with the same “meh” reaction.

I wonder how the station itself would’ve heard about the single. Maybe Green Day is already talking to stations about the single and it was just a slip of the tongue

It's also a cheap trick cover, not an original song.
