Longshot album Love is for Losers

loving all the songs, they just have a great sound.  good for him to keep us entertained while Green Day take a break.

They sound great live. I really like reading all the opinions of everyone here. I am so glad the passion everyone has for Billie Joe and this new band.  Yeah it is strange we are not talking Green Day music, but he is so talented. A great songwriter and he just does not stop. Love it.   Random thought, still weird to see him with no wedding ring in the videos at the shows.

That is the most hilarious review I ever read of anything.  It’s either been written by Tre and Mike messing around with Billie or somebody straight out of journalist school who is something of a fan.  I can’t disagree with anything they say but it’s incredible 😂😂😂

I pay no attention excessively critical or excessively  positive reviews. This review is so ridiculously positive that it couldn’t possibly be taken seriously. Anyone that listens to the album based on that review will be seriously disappointed.

Just wasted about ten minutes of my life googling the meaning of every other word in that review in an attempt to decipher what the fuck it's actually talking about, and I'm still none the wiser.

I'm surprised that almost no review mentions the fact that this is almost all Billie, by himself.  That to me is more interesting than the fact that he's not wearing eyeliner.

It's probably because its not listed as "Billie Joe Armstrong" but under a band name. Genius has music credits to the guys in the band even though Billie recorded everything except the drums on "Happiness".

Yeah he's deliberately not made a big thing about it being a solo album, aside from him saying "my album" a couple of times and big fans following closely enough to have realised it's just him it totally looks like a band. I guess it's a not being a show off and keeping it relatively low key thing (and a not making everyone freak out and think GD is breaking up thing :P).

Have there been any posts about a physical release or will this just be digital? I like having a CD or a vinyl.

He mention in a comment to someone on instagram that vinyl will be available in a few months. I haven't seen anything about CD's.

Here is a 5/5 review written by what seems like someone who just discovered a thesaurus. Lol.

Oh jeez...I often think I'm a shit writer, but after reading this I know I can't be that bad  This looks like the type of writing I would be asked to peer review in high school!

He should have used my profile picture instead of that shitty car for the album cover 20.gif

If Cult Hero did nothing for you then I don't know what to tell you.

Vinyl is coming in a couple months according to BJ. No mention of CD.

There should be a book on how to write songs like Billie Joe Armstrong.

Because despite 22 years on a steady diet of Green Day and all his side projects, my songs just don't sound like Billies.  Haha

The Longshot did get me working on creating new music again.  I might make a sound cloud account!

Yeah, but even if Billie's not making a big deal about it, you'd still think that at least one publication would look at the record and realize only his and Joey's names are on it and comment on that.

I know! But apparently not. I mean if this was released as "Billie Joe Armstrong" I'm sure publications would be making a much bigger deal about it and articles would all have something about him "going solo" in the title. I think they must've genuinely not picked up on it.

Kind of a shame really because he deserves to be congratulated for this solo effort. If keeping things low key was the goal he's achieved it though so probably for the best overall.

I'm wondering what everyone's favorite song from the album is so I put up a post on GDA with a poll. Go vote! http://www.greendayauthority.com/news/5821/

So far it seems to be between Turn Me Loose and The Last Time, which I'm totally okay with. I voted for Happiness. That song makes me reach one ground higher  than the rest of the album, which is very fun and brilliant as a whole.

I re-listened to the chorus in Happiness and to me it's definitely "someday when all this is over". Aside from the only hearing, I might go into a bit of analysis and interpretation and say that in this song, Billie is being introspective and saying "see when the war is over" as the war in the mind, aka the restlessness, both terms that we also hear in the chorus. Also I'm kinda used to hear Billie use simple, yet strong expressions to describe the war in his mind ; first examples I think of :  in Still Breathing, "am I bleeding from the storm", in Forever now, "don't wan't to think about the - *scream* (instead of words)". In Happiness, if I hear well, it would be "all this is over", which is at the same time imprecise and obvious : for someone consciously living a personal inner war these words can only, undoubtedly send back to that; so everyone knows what "all this" might be for him/her. Moreover, i don't see what "someday when hell freezes over" would mean. I can try to imagine what it could mean, but it seems a bit elaborate and non-explicit compared to the simple, yet abrupt and efficient terms Billie generally uses when it comes to this matter. Of course I could be wrong but it's my overall feeling. I'm waiting for a CD with a lyric book to finally see :P

It really is “when hell freezes over” I promise. That’s an expression that means the thing is never going to happen. So like when he sang in Back in the USA, “The soldiers of an endless war” and he’s written repeatedly about today’s generation of kids since AI growing up in perpetual war. So when he says, “See you when the war is over, someday when hell freezes over” is saying that our current global conflicts will never end. (It can also be a clever nod to climate change as a secondary meaning)

It kind of sounds like both of those lines which is weird. But I think it's "freezes over". Billie's voice is kind of weird like that where sometimes it sounds like he's saying two different things. Another example of this that comes to mind is the whole "Don't want a nation under the new media/mania". It's like if you're listening for either one of the words, you'll hear whatever you're listening for. And have people seriously not heard of the expression "when hell freezes over" before? It's a very well known phrase, is it not?

In Forever Now, Billie says "don't wanna think about the old" after saying "don't wanna think about tomorrow".

It helps to watch the live clips from Thee Parkside and Ivy Room. Hell freezes over is much easier to hear in those.

I listened again very closely and okay, it's freezes over. I'm not native American and I had never heard that phrase, that's way it sounded weird. But as @pacejunkie punk gave me the explanation to it I get it now. "all this is over" would have worked too which is why I stuck to it. Only when I thought of "all this is over" I thought of it as something that will eventually happen, though as "hell freezes over" will never happen, that gives the line (and the chorus... and the song) a slightly different (darker?) meaning... I'll think of that when listening to it from now on :P

No, in Forever Now he screams. It's not "old", it's "oh-oh-oh-oh"
