The Last Time: so good I can overlook the line "I'm sorry what I ever did"

I can kind of see why Body Bag would divide opinion. I like it, but it's very weird . The way Billie sings it in that soft voice is just odd.

I was kind of hoping Body Bag would sound different because on OW I really didn't care for it but it's pretty much the exact same but longer

Just my two cents on the album, I love The Last Time, Taxi Driver, Happiness, Soul Surrender, Turn Me Loose, Body Bag, and Goodbye to Romance. That’s all but 4 songs, so that’s pretty damn good. The remaining songs to me sound too much like theme songs for an 80’s teen show. So I hope Billie got that out of his system before the next Green Day album

The fact that they sound like an 80s throwback is what I love about them.  They are so retro and fun.

Yes it's already sold out, they sold leftovers of Record Store Day and it was up on their site for a few hours

I think Genius has most of the correct lyrics. That's what I've been using. Also, if you have a genius account you can edit any mistakes you see in the lyrics. I think every lyric site is still figuring out the lyrics themselves because it is hard to tell at times

How do you know? Can you send a link?

Because the one on Billie's instagram sounds exactly like this version. Body bag sounds the same as well, why would he change devils kind then.

Vocally it sounds the same (which is disappointing tbh, I was hoping it'd be different) but instrumentally it seems like it has changed a bit

I think it's more than shared lyrics with "Chasing a Ghost".   I feel like "Chasing a Ghost" is a spiritual sequel to this song.  They are telling a story very much like the film, Ordinary World.

In "Devil", the guy is living up the Rock Star lifestyle, wild and free.  The party is in his pocket.

But in "Chasing a Ghost", he's not puking from partying.  He's disgusted at the piss stains, and the party is no fun.   he's thinking back to when it was fun and how things have changed.  The lyrics are like polar opposites in how he is taking in this party he is at.

So I was listening to The Longshot, cleaning the house and suddenly I got the urge to listen to 21st Century Breakdown.

If you find yourself saying that all Billie Joe songs sound, the same - do what I'm doing.  It's like apple and oranges.  Bananas and Kiwis.

Bummed I didn't get to the website in time to buy the vinyl, but hopefully they'll do a pressing of the whole album which would be even cooler :)

In The Last Time,

Assuming that song is about Billie Joe's rehab, do you think the lyrics :

I’ll give you all my blood
'Till it's a waste of time

Refer to Bille Joe's addiction and the blood tests that you have to do to prove that you're clean.

"I'll give you all my blood until that becomes useless because I'm clean now"

Okay like, Green Day wouldn't have existed for much longer if John had stayed, and the first drummer they kicked out because he straight up sucked. John sabotaged them by declining offers from labels without telling them and thus pissing Billie and Mike off and he left the band because he was never really serious about anyway. Tré replaced him and never strayed from their side, thanks to him they're even more remarkable than they have been. Yeah, MAYBE if there had been a twist of fate and they had found somebody else to replace John with, Green Day would still exist today, but even then, they wouldn't be the same. Every single member makes the band what they are, and to say that Green Day could continue being Green Day without these important and vital members, is wrong.

John didn’t sabotage them. Those label offers on the insert of 39/Smooth are fake, y’know. I believe he stole the letter heads out of a dumpster. Billie and Mike weren’t happy that they were printed in 39/Smooth, but that’s a minor cosmetic thing, nothing serious. John didn’t leave the band because he wasn’t serious. He was expecting to stay in the band. He had Tre fill in for him and he wanted to play on the weekends and holidays when he was off from school. But Billie and Mike became really close with Tre and didn’t want to use him as just a fill-in.

Considering the song was written for "These Paper Bullets" a play with Beatles inspired songs I doubt there is anything personal in there.

My guess is the song is a love song and the lyrics are just generic love song lyrics and don't reflect anything personal to Billie or his addiction.

Blood tests are not a common way to test for substance use.

Anyone else think of iHeart 2012 when you listen to Cult Hero: “I can self destruct on any given note/my ruin is my storyline” ?

In general, I love the message of that song where he describes himself as the eternal outcast, but it’s cool to be cult 🙂
