I saw a few days ago someone posted an article about Billie Joe talking about vocal filters and just using an SM58 to record his vocals and then altering in pro tools - can some one send it to me? Feel like its bound to be an interesting read!

One of my favorite Billie Joe interviews! Enjoy.

What's with the amount of love the trilogy's getting recently? I'm not complaining, it's just that a lot of people are talking about how they love the trilogy and that it's grown on them a lot more whereas years ago, saying you like the trilogy would just get you nothing but people disagreeing with you and talking about how it's shit and it sucks.

It's gone back and forth since it came out, it'll get trashed and then there'll be a backlash of people defending it as well as people seeing the good in it now that time has passed. Truth is there's always been people who like it and people who don't.

Oh also the fact that there's aspects of Love is for Losers that are similar to the trilogy in a good way will be a reason for it being mentioned more/positively recently.

I'm gonna soak up all this trilogy positivity while it lasts. Though I think Tre' was right when he said that time will be kind to those records.

When did he say that? Was it recently?

In an interview during the beginning of the Rev Rad era. Maybe Kerrang?

Seems like most liking this more than Revrad because it's new. Not long ago you could see the love for Revrad on the forum... well Love is for Losers is the favorite until the next album comes out!

Haha i guess that kinda makes sense.

i love RevRad though and still listen to it regularly. Probably a top 3 GD album for me.

For me the songs are just more relatable to me than a lot of RevRad since music is a personal thing I tend to gravitate towards stuff that I relate to maybe that’s why Insomniac is usually my top GD album

Can you post examples?

I can!  That post was actually much longer with all the examples, but I kept rewriting.

These are all the lyrical connections I've made from The Longshot to other Green Day albums:

Hurricanes appear in The Last TIme and Jesus of Suburbia - a stretch, but hurricanes aren't a very common lyrics, so yeah.

Taxi Driver has that pre-chorus that sounds like Are we the Waiting.

Chasing a Ghost has a Loss of Control feel, with a few common lyrics like standing in the shadows, being alone.

ALSO, I just noticed this song talks about Cigarettes and Lose is for Losers talks about Valentines, so there it is.  This is the lost album they made right before American Idiot.   !!!!!!!!!!!!!!   HAHA

Love is For Losers also has a hint of Still Breathing in there - running or something, I don't know exactly.

Cult Hero has a line from Fashion Victim ("Dog and Pony Show!" )

Kill Your Friends has the word Eulogy, which was part of a song title in Breakdown.   Also has deatbeats (Deadbeat Holiday) on parade (Macys Day Parade),  Jumping on grenades (Wild One) and Judgement Day (Dirty Rotten Bastards).   Nothing comes to mind and I don't even care is similar to lines from Too Much Too Soon and from American Idiot tracks.

Happiness has an avenue (8th avenue serenade)   and my personal favorite, "Too Dumb to Cry".

Soul Surrender reminds me of Oh Love, but with more original lyrics.  I keep wanting to sing "Please don't pass me by" instead of "dont be so uptight!"  (uptight is the name of a Green Day song!)  Hahaha

Turn Me Loose has borderlines like Broken Dreams, and rebels like She's a Rebel.

Most are a strech of my imagination, but that Cigarettes and Valentines was a nice find for me just now!!!!!!!

Cult Hero is absolute aces btw.

Love the “dog and pony show” reference to Fashion Victim!

You know I think they released most of the worst songs first. Chasing A Ghost was good, and Love is For Losers and Kill Your Friends are alright. But Taxi Driver and Body Bag are pretty poor. But Soul Surrender, Happiness, The Last Time, Cult Hero and Turn Me Loose were all good songs with Soul Surrender and The Last Time being my personal highlights.

Even though I'm not super into the album yet I hope they release it physically.

I think Taxi Driver is one of the better songs, ok the chorus is pretty simple but the verses are really good.

I agree the "newer" songs are great but Taxi Driver is a banger. Simple can be good. That said I also get this nagging feeling as the songs become more familiar, that they're too simple and straightforward , it's like I've heard them before. Not sure whether it's because Billie's been subconsciously lifting a little too much from his inspirations or he's just too great a songwriter lol (it is the latter oBvIoUsLy) :ga:

Honestly, after about eight runthroughs (jfc it feels like days since the release ) the only song I'm not totally loving is Body Bag but even that one is growing on me. The production felt really jarring and strange on the first listen when they put it up on youtube but listening to the album as a whole it flows just fine.

Good review, I disagree with some of it but hey, we've all got different opinions.

I like all of the songs, but I haven't quite gotten on the "Turn me Loose" train just yet.   That one and "The Last Time" have been the ones that are having to grow on me, which is funny because everybody else seems to think those are the highlights.   Happiness and Cult Hero are by far my two favorite tracks and Goodbye to Romance is my least favorite.

Obviously anything Billie does is going to be compared to American Idiot, but now everyone is comparing everything to both Idiot and the Trilogy.

I will like this record even after the next Green Day record comes and goes.

Turn me Loose and Cult Hero weren't songs that clicked with me on the first listen entirely but I think both of them are good songs. The Last Time is really fun and both the verses and chorus are catchy imo and it's just a great opener. The harmonization just makes the song. Besides Taxi Driver and Body Bag, Goodbye to Romance would probably be my next least favourite but I'm not sure I've given it enough listens yet.

This project is very comparable to the trilogy though. I mean, everything gets compared to AI of course, but yeah the reason this is being compared to the trilogy is because it's more a return to that style after RevRad

Also, I wish @End Of The World was here because I'm sure he'd want to listen to the album and give his thoughts but I assume he hasn't heard of it yet or else he'd probably be here.

They also seem to be playing random songs from the trilogy (eg wild one last night). Always thought that a majority of the trilogy songs were better suited to smaller club type shows like what they're doing with the longshot.

Thanks! The only ones I noticed was the Dog and Pony show and jumping on the grenade. Some are probably a stretch but others I'd imagine he at least thought of as he was writing. I wish we could ask him all this stuff

I'm listening to The Last Time now, as I surf the web in search of accurate lyrics.   Azlyrics is my go-to site and they have them up.  I'll see how they did on the harder-to-understand songs as I go but for now, I'm stuck on "The Last Time".

And WOW.  I'm playing it through some decent speakers and I'm hearing some very, very cool vocals.  Listen to 1:09 to 1:25   - Billie Joe on backing vocals is hitting some notes higher than he's ever reached before - he's channeling his inner woman or something and the result is....magical.

Since everyone else is finally coming out and singing their praise for the trilogy I may as well do the same.

As a whole it's better than RevRad. For me if you take out Bang Bang and Forever Now you're left with an average album. Those 2 really elevate it.
