Longshot album Love is for Losers

Does anyone else interpret the line "How lonely is your lonely" as "How lonely is 'You're lonely'?"

As in "how lonely are you when you say you're lonely"

I really like this album.

I think The Last Time is the strongest song on there - not even musically, just it's a huge jam, perfect for summer coming up. My girlfriend said that "Cult Hero" sounds like it could be in a Shrek film and I kind of agree - it's got that fun but semi-serious side. I like that song a lot. I like it all!

I am going to listen to it a few more times and maybe give a more comprehensive review here and some point. But also maybe I won't. Who cares, honestly.

I am just bummed Jason wasn't on this record. I wonder if he's angry at Billie like Mike and Tre supposedly are? I wonder what Jeff did to be in the good books!

Green Day is not breaking up. They're still great friends. But Mike and Tre have to be at least slightly weary that Billie's solo record is legitimately the best thing anyone in the group has made in close to a decade. This solo album has more energy, catchiness, and memorable musicianship than anything they've made recently.

Recency bias. Remind yourself to review your feelings in a few months.

Just listened to the whole album.

Some quick thoughts

- So much fun packed in just over 30 mins. Listening to the album makes me happy with a slight tinge of nostalgia.

- Billie sounds fresh and happy

- The first song The Last Time and the last song Goobye to Romance are highlights for me. I'll need to check out the original version of Goodbye to Romance. I also really enjoy Turn Me Loose

- it's a quite cohesive album

- I'm not a fan of the vocal filters  used in some songs

- I think these songs will translate really well live in small venues. Those that got to go to a show will know better though

- overall, a very enjoyable release!

I havent read all 18 pages of this thread so this is most likely something thats been pointed out before but

"Piss stains and cigarettes
This party's getting dull
Im looking for a drink
And a couch to call my home"

"Puke stains and cigarettes
The party is in my pocket
Im looking for a bump
And a wall to call my home"

Is literally the same verse but worded slightly different. I knew something about Chasing a Ghost sounded familiar :P

What song is that from?

Omg I can't believe he says "I am the longest shot in town" in Cult Hero . There's so many amusing little playful lines on this album (which reminds me of the trilogy :D).

Cult Hero is my favorite new one. I love how he snuck Rodeo in there with this cute wordplay: “I am the darkest horse in the rodeo” could easily read as “I am the darkest horse in Rodeo” 😊 I love the whole outcast by choice vibe if that song.

And I probably won’t buy this on iTunes since it wants me to buy the three from the EP all over again it doesn’t give me credit for having those songs when I go to buy the album so that sucks. Spotify it is.

And the moral of the story is, annoy Billie Joe enough and you’ll get the song you ask for. :)

It's a shame it doesn't work when you annoy him for nudes though... :ermm:

Good point. However, I liked this album much more after first listen than I did RevRad and 80% of the Trilogy. RevRad has gotten worse to me over time; Trilogy has grown on me.

I agree it’s better than RevRad. I happened to like the trilogy from the beginning (the majority of it, at least). This is a good continuation and fine-tuning of that style. I don’t know if it’s better or not, but it doesn’t really matter.

Right. It's kind of crazy how bad RevRad aged for me. I really only listen to 2-3 of the songs.

Same. I need more time with the lyrics but I really really like the vibe of it and that line in particular. It's definitely one of my favourites right now.

I love that this album has sort of the trilogy garage rock/power pop sound but it worries me that we won't get that with Green Day anymore...

I really hope they go back in the Warning direction for their next album. I’m good on any more “arena rock” from them.

Actually, maybe (I mean, probably) the song came first and then the band name from it. Agree though, I'm enjoying slowly working out the lyrics listening to it.

Seems like most liking this more than Revrad because it's new. Not long ago you could see the love for Revrad on the forum... well Love is for Losers is the favorite until the next album comes out!

I saw a few days ago someone posted an article about Billie Joe talking about vocal filters and just using an SM58 to record his vocals and then altering in pro tools - can some one send it to me? Feel like its bound to be an interesting read!

totally, was just reading through them this morning and i think they're pretty great. in my opinion they aren't as forced as some of the ones on rev rad that are trying maybe too hard to be anthems. seems like whenever he does these low stakes projects he is more comfortable just being his self deprecating self, its great to hear

for me its not because its new, i just personally am more into this kind of music, more stripped down simple power pop, than the super larger than life arena rock stuff that green day sometimes does. i still love rev rad, but its nice to hear him do this kind of stuff too

Any official lyrics out yet? A lot of the lyric sites seem off.

What's with the amount of love the trilogy's getting recently? I'm not complaining, it's just that a lot of people are talking about how they love the trilogy and that it's grown on them a lot more whereas years ago, saying you like the trilogy would just get you nothing but people disagreeing with you and talking about how it's shit and it sucks.
